I've been researching some stuff this year I missed for my radio show. This week my show is gonna be a senior menu, with a buncha artists 55+ who put out good stuff this year. Totally blown away by this Mavis Staples album that came out. If Bartender still comes around these parts, I'd recommend it to him, on account of his liking the latter-day Solomon Burke releases.
You should check out the new Bettye Lavette. She's a Detroit soul singer, and she just put out her first album in decades, backed by the Drive-By Truckers. It's really good, and she's 55+. |

Yeah I retired it like a year ago now.

Now I just use it to give people big avatars for no reason, and to ban you.
|
Hey Alex could you put this as my avatar?:

i really like the guitar swells in MBV's "Soon." you know what i mean? this razor-sharp guitar noise just arises out of nowhere and cuts through everything, blending with the vox.
the song as a whole is kinda boring and repetitive but i really like those parts |
i really like the droning guitars on sometimes

The Lemonheads - Car Button Cloth
Fucking hell these guys are great. |
listening to the flood by Boris
part 1 ****in sucked.. didnt listen to it the whole way through, got 4 mins and skipped through the rest... i guess i missed out on whooshes and thumps, and more patterns of overlap. damn. part 2 ****in rules so far and im like halfway through. hopefully the rest is like this edit ok actually i changed it to brian eno ambient 3 i havent heard any ambient i like more than eno's |
Part 1 sucks on its own, but it really has to be there in order for part 2 to seem climatic. Overall its ok.
|
i'll listen to the rest later on. can't promise i'll ever listen to part 1 all the way through. all in all i feel like i'm missing out on a whole family of ambient artists... all i listen to when i'm in the mood for ambient is brian eno... could any of you that are into ambient recommend something? a lot of the time when i want ambient it's because i need to be studying so i need something smooth, slow, low-key, not demanding of attention. but after listening to the albums a bunch, i can definitely appreciate and enjoy listening to them just to listen to them, so i guess i need something else that might be able to do that for me

Erik Saetie.
|
sooooooooo down with Satie. perriwinkle has a Satie avatar, if you recall
like the Gymnopedie's, those are great for what i'm talking about, but a lot of his stuff is very hyper and spastic. trust me i've studied to Satie but when it gets to those parts i have to change it. but now i wanna listen to the Gymnopedie's. ughhh ****ing beautiful. i love how each one raises in key |

That'll be fun, they're great live.

Om - Pilgrimage Khanate - s/t Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth Khanate are BRUTAL. It's good. |

|
Jesu - Conqueror again.
|
I listened to Khanate for about a week straight once. Their live album is excellent.
Jesu - Conqueror again.
That album is their worst. |
I disagree!
|
Rodan - Rusty
Not listened to this for little while but it still rules. All the songs are excellent, but "Gauge" is my new favourite. Except "Everyday World of Bodies" which is one of the best songs ever. Khanate live would be intense as f'uck. I'm gonna try and find that. |
