They prove that the rap/rock genre can be played with some degree of dignity, unlike their predecessors, Limp Bizkit.
The only group to ever mix rap and rock and do it well is Run-DMC.

Jom 09-06-2005 04:00 PM
What album? I only have Dissimulate along with the advance song from World of Lies. I think these guys are excellent and I'd like to hear more of them.
The 2000 s/t.

Here you guys go (and by 'guys,' I mean 'ShadowsFallen'):

The Pop-Punk kids are so mean. They don't post in my threads there :upset:

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 04:02 PM

I liked one Limp Bizkit song. No, I take it back, two. My Way and the one they did for the MI-2 soundtrack.

Public Enemy and Anthrax did it damn well, imo.

Shadows 09-06-2005 04:04 PM
Ok, I'm not too fond of the vocals, but the first upload (disregard) sounded like Slayer. I like Slayer. I'm wearing a Slayer shirt. The second song (paradox) was good until the vocals. Not bad stuff overall, though.
 Wow, I thought you would've hated it the whole way through! I think it's very impressive. They have a lot of variety on the album. Their drummer is quite possibly the best in the world. Their guitar riffs are also very well-written and played. I could easily hear these guys shredding, even though it wouldn't quite match the music.

They like my uploads in the Com thread.

Illmatic 09-06-2005 04:04 PM
Public Enemy and Anthrax did it damn well, imo.
Yeah, but Run-DMC did an entire album (King Of Rock) that was basically rap-rock, while PE and Anthrax only did one song.

Hah, you're right, how silly of me. Mike I think is very underrated. He's definitely an excellent drummer. It's fun to talk with him on the Arsis boards too. He's kind of a funny guy.

 Like I've said before. I'll try...listen to...anything once. They weren't horrible, but they weren't the greatest either. They were cool. I like their heavyness...just not the vocals.

Arucard 09-06-2005 04:08 PM

I need to sign up for them. Is he on the boards too! Omgz!

Well, im off to bed, i have an English presentation on an Avenged Sevenfold song tommorow, gotta make it good.

G'night.

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 04:09 PM

cheerio

EDIT: ....Avenged Sevenfold? hmm...

Shadows 09-06-2005 04:09 PM
I need to sign up for them. Is he on the boards too! Omgz!
You should. There's only about five members - it just shows how unpopular they are. It's fun to go there once in a while though.

True.

No matter what it was, Run DMC could do no wrong, and that's what I love about them. They were originators, and their successors made the whole genre of rap-rock [sort of] a total fiasco, musically.

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 04:11 PM
Right. I never pictured you as getting into Hyperfast Industrial Grindcore. I love the vocals personally. One of my favorite parts of them.
Ok! Grindcore! Got it. I was trying to put my finger on what exactly they sounded like, or fell under.
Ok! Grindcore! Got it. I was trying to put my finger on what exactly they sounded like, or fell under.
Yep, Grindcore. They're one of the most unusual Grind bands you'll ever hear. They also have a definite Industral/Techno aspect to their sound since the drummer uses distortion on his bass drum, a drum that he uses quite often. He was once rumored to be the fastest drummer in the history of the world (I'm not making this up). But listening to his blast beats in stuff like No One Wins, I think it might be possible. I think people said he could do 19 bp/s with one hand.

Maybe because it was a completely ignorant statment? If you don't like Rage thats fine, but saying that they're horrible because they have a rapper but they play rock music is something I'd expect a complete n00b to say, not a well-respected R&M reg.

It wasn't me who neg'd you though.

Edit: Reffering to the new poll.

If it's any consolation, I like your avatar. :(

superpeer 09-06-2005 04:18 PM

I like RATM.

I like The Berserker, the techno beats are cool.

I don't like Prog, it bores me, mostly. Dragonforce is not Progressive, except if you count taking cheesiness to another level.

My €0.02

Shadows 09-06-2005 04:20 PM
Dragonforce is not Progressive, except if you count taking cheesiness to another level.
I would call them progressive only because they solo for about 5 minutes in every song and each song is 6-10 minutes. But who can resist Berzerker's techno beats? :)
My €0.02
I find common American remarks put into a European perspective to be very funny.

We have been across this topic before though.
It's not specifically the rapper, I don't like the attitude they have or the political aspect of the music, or the music itself.
I think rap is fine, as rap...I don't much like the genre but there are albums and artists that I realise are very influential and important, N.W.A, public enemy, early Ice-T and early Snoop Dogg are fine by me, I just hate the culture that surrounds it.
generally, with a couple of notable exceptions, Anthrax being one of them, the genres of rap and rock really shouldn't mix.

Lunch 09-06-2005 04:25 PM

Well had you explained all that in your post in the new poll thread I would have no problem with it, at all. The only problem I had was that you said "they have a rapper in a rock band" and it came off as an ignorant statement with nothing to back it up.

You can really show them some Respect, because they're great musicians. Tom Morello in particular.

Dragonforce do have a little prog in them, but remember: Just because a song is long, doesn't mean that it's progressive.

Shadows 09-06-2005 04:27 PM

Is it just me, or does it seem like all the mods and users with stars are very edgy lately? :(

I would say they're prog. Their songs are not only long, but very technical with the outrageous soloing.

Lord Abortion 09-06-2005 04:28 PM

I just think they suck arse, sorry.
For the reasons I said, let's just forget it
Actually, I may put that into the thread... Just for clarification of my opinion
You can really show them some Respect, because they're great musicians. Tom Morello in particular
I really can't hear anything in his guitar work to endear the band to me, sorry.

That's not exactly the definition of Prog.

And I haven't been edgy.

Lunch 09-06-2005 04:29 PM

I have no problem with your opinion, and then you presented why in here and it makes sense. Issue solved.

Edgy....how?

Shadows 09-06-2005 04:30 PM
That's not exactly the definition of Prog.
Alright then, I'll say they're not prog.

It's probably just my nerve-racking conversation with Damrod earlier today. :(

Nevermind.

I didn't say endear, I said respect, a totally different thing.

I don't like dragonforce at all, but I respect them because they're great musicians.

Shadows 09-06-2005 04:33 PM

I like Dragonforce. They're super-cheesey but they have great solos and catchy melodies.

Taste_My_Scythe 09-06-2005 04:33 PM

Agreed. Though I've only heard one song.

I always thought they were the high, stereotypical power metal singing.

Dragonforce- To me, most PM isn't cheesy. Probably just because Dragonforce outshines every band three-fold in this department.

Nope, wasn't me. I'd consider negging someone for their musical tastes abuse of the system. Ask Jelle if you don't believe. :p I'm surprisingly unoffended by your accusation, however.

RCA 09-06-2005 04:37 PM

Has anyone else noticed that "Heart Of A Dragon" sounds almost EXACTLY like that "Here comes Peter Cottontail..." nursery rhyme?
