You won't believe what you're hearing.

I haven't heard this since sophomore year really, and decided to give it another listen.

here's some sissy rock music vaguely listed as "dreampop" "shoegaze" "indie" etc. i dont like it that much but i figure you guys might. and the only reason i'm linking to the last.fm page is because their songs are available for free download there. a chance to jump right in on a band you might enjoy!

Gavin Bryars - Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet

Oh my god, so intense. I don't think I'll ever get all the way through this in one sitting.

Thanks 12-05-2007 08:41 PM

Scratch that. I just got through listening to the whole thing. Holy shit.

Robert Crumb 12-05-2007 09:31 PM

I feel special because I've heard both The Mean Red Spiders and that Gavin Bryars. :)

I recall Nacho likes the Mean Red Spiders, but I dunno too snoozy shoegaze for me. Don't much like shoegaze, though.

I was listening to that Secret Mommy album that came out this year and it seems ok. I don't think I liked it beofre.

That's a hell of a record.

Neoteric 12-06-2007 03:30 PM

It's quite CRAZY.

I am listening to albums I haven't listened to in a few months, right now I'm listening to OM.

Thanks 12-06-2007 03:40 PM

Two identical casio keyboards playing the same drumbeat, with a very small difference in starting time. Listen for 10 minutes, enjoy sounds of strange rhythms created by two identical beats out of phase.

i wouldnt want to listen to that for 10 minutes tbh. 2 i could do. 10 no

William Shatner - Has Been

Awesome.

Anus Invader 12-06-2007 04:06 PM

wait do you mean difference in starting time, tempo, or both? if they were the same tempo, but started at different times, you'd have the same mangled rhythm for 10 mins.. the only way it'd be interesting is if it's a different tempo

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:20 PM

You're wrong.

Because the two instruments are looping independently, the two loop points are constantly being shifted against one another.

Neoteric 12-06-2007 04:21 PM

You're welcome.

Anus Invader 12-06-2007 04:22 PM

so it's the same tempo...? and the same combination repeats?

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:22 PM

Read edit.

And try looping the same audio file in two tracks with one starting later in a DAW if you don't understand.

Anus Invader 12-06-2007 04:25 PM

alright you're being unclear though.. the two loop points are being shifted against each other.. do you mean the start-times for each slowly move apart and then end up back together for a little bit and repeat etc? because if that's the case they're different tempos and that's what i meant

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:27 PM

Try it in a DAW.

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:35 PM

I think it may just be attributable to internal clock error, now that I conceptualize it more. The rhythms do constantly shift.

And I've had the same thing happen in looping tracks on DAW. The initial error becomes worse as time goes on.

Anus Invader 12-06-2007 04:37 PM

alright will do when i get back to my room but if theyre the same tempo and looped ideally (no gap or the same gap) then the difference between start times will remain constant and it'll repeat the same combination

and thus be boring

Anus Invader 12-06-2007 04:38 PM

i hate when i delete/repost to get rid of edit stamp and people reply before i repost. but hmm then that'd be an error in the DAW.. songs would just fall apart over time haha what program do you use?

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:40 PM

I think in the DAW it's human error, with innaccurate synchronization of loop points. The two phenomena do not seem to be the same.

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:41 PM

But then how did Steve Reich do it on "Come Out?"

Anus Invader 12-06-2007 04:42 PM

i don't have that song but i've heard him do that before, two tracks out of phase.. he probably changed one's tempo slightly and played them over top of each other.. but imagine having a live orchestra play two parts out of phase.... thaaaat would be hard

Thanks 12-06-2007 04:43 PM

It's a spoken word recording. He could have changed the loop points, but that's not what it sounds like. It sounds the same as when my two keyboards fight with each other.
