John Mclaughlin is really amazing, I wish more people knew about him.
I have this CD by him called "The Promise". Its amazing. It features artists like Jeff Beck,Al Dimeola, Michael Brecker, Dennis Chambers. If u like John you should definlity pick this up.
John Mclaughlin & Jeff Beck - Django

look what i do for you guys. uploading a song here so you dont have to check dboons thread. this is an excellent example of becks talent. in case you cant recognize his tone, he solos first. try to ignore mclaughlin for now, but definitely come back to him later. theyre both amazing and mclaughlin should definitely be in this top 5 but this could also be used as evidence for becks greatness.
Umm, let me put it this way. I appreciate the skill, but the music bores me. I can listen to jazz, I can listen to blues, rock, bluegrass, folk, classical...basically anything. But for some reason music like that (fusion or whatever you wanna call it), just bores the hell outta me. Cool tone though, and they both had some great licks.

So I had my auditions today for a Battle of the Bands, we played Sunshine of Your Love...the song didn't go bad (it was all emo/hardcore bands there anyways), although i couldn't hear the bass, and we didn't have a rhythm guitarist, so my solo was sorta odd in terms of timing. I mostly just improvised it except for a few key parts. It went well though.

i can understand that. i wasnt sure how much luck i would have posting it in the classic rock thread anyway but yeah. i mainly put it up to show the skills of beck.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-09-2005 10:54 PM

The deed is done I have downloaded Jake Holme's 1st version of "Dazed and Confused" and I'm probably the youngest person alive to hear it.

*EXTREME rareness++++

Yeah, I definitely can see the skill. I've actually never heard much by Beck, so I'm glad I heard this. He's not exactly my kinda player though (he did rock and/or blues too though right? I'd probably love that)

What's up with that "Thread" you just made?

Awesome man! Have you heard anything from the organizers yet?..Or however it's done..

/has no clue how a battle of the bands works

Yep well there are "judges," they are only cutting a few bands...so I'm assuming they will lose a couple of the emo/hardcore bands (since there were about thirty that appeared to play the same song). We were the only rock band actually. There were a few metal bands that will probably make it because they were quite good.

Sometime soon we will find out if we are through...then we just show up at the real competition and play a song.

(I was just bored...that's why I made my Thread)

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-09-2005 11:12 PM

I went to a battle of the bands a week ago and all the bands that played pretty much blew except the last one they opened up with "War Pigs" and then did two bluesy songs. I thought they were great. Their singer was great, they had a skilled guitarist, they were easily the most talented band there, they got the most reaction from the crowd than anyone else and what happened? They lost to a no-talent Christian-Rock band! When they announced the winners the crowd was outraged and started chanting their name. **** Christian nazis! Oh well I mean what do you expect when you're singing about the devil in a church.

Sounds a lot better than our battle of the bands. The only other band that impressed me was a metal band that played after us, I'm friends with their singer and I'll admit that he's a way better singer than me, and quite possibly a better guitarist.

I'm going to bed. I work all tomorrow night, and am leaving for a choir trip Wednesday morning, so I probably won't be back until the weekend. See ya guys later! Remember...only you can prevent emo music.

Worry not, I'm still Brian. Actually, more than one person in real life has told me I remind them of Brian. Hopefully they mean attitude, not looks...He'll be back one of these days.

Guys, should I get something by the Mahavishnu Orchestra or not?

Anubis_1 05-10-2005 11:01 AM

Tom Petty Concert

I heard that they are going to charge around $500 for good Seats, and around $70 dollars for lawn seats. Does anyone know if this is true?

jpj 05-10-2005 11:23 AM

Yes.
I heard that they are going to charge around $500 for good Seats, and around $70 dollars for lawn seats. Does anyone know if this is true?
Definitely not true. Tickets for them here go from $25-$52.50.

Leper 05-10-2005 01:27 PM

When is Tom Petty touring, and where?

Endless Obsession 05-10-2005 01:37 PM

The only was i would pay $500 for a concert is if my 10 favorite bands were together, some1 rose from the dead that i liked, or maybe for Rage Against the machine and metallica or something like that. I doubt people would pay $500 to see Tom Petty.

Leper 05-10-2005 01:40 PM

If i had lots of money, and was more reckless with it, i'd pay $500 to see Tom Petty. He kicks as$.

So is anyone going to pick up the new Foo Fighters album to hear JPJ's piano work?

Leper 05-10-2005 02:03 PM

I'm not sure if Canada was even a country when it was the Capital. But that wouldn't make it a capital I guess. I'm not even sure anymore.
