report'd for trolling....
exactly. It really pisses me off if I'm playing a section of about 100 notes, and after 30 notes or so, my hands become unsynched, and it starts to go bad for a few notes, it's just really aggrevating, so I'm trying to eliminate it 100%
Same trouble here. I usually just end up getting stressed/bored though. Your attention span is probably higher than mine. |
haha, not really at all...
I've really worked a TON on my focus, and what my mind is doing while I practice, and really getting the most out of my time. It didn't seem like repeating the lick at a certain speed for 5 minutes was really getting the most out of my time, unless my mind was fully aware with what is going on. Its much easier now staying in time as well, and accenting the down beat. Like on 3 note per string runs, I can now tell if im using a down stroke, or up stroke, and am able to accentuate that regardless. It's helping me favor downstrokes even less. Sweeps having gotten a lot tighter as well, which makes me pretty giddy |
I think we both spend too much time talking about technique and not enough time practising it...:upset:
I suck. |
well, friday i really practiced my fukking arse off. 4 hours of metronome, 2 of those hours were non-stop, no breaks.
Saturday I was basically fukked when they hooked up my high speed, because I had a friend over, and we played xbox LIVE for about 6 hours straight. I felt guilty and snuck out of bed at midnight to metronome for an hour Yesterday, my girl decided to walk around the house in the nude all day, so that limited to the guitar practice. again, i felt guilty and snuck out of bed at like 12:30 a.m. and metronome'd for an hour. Today, I'm pretty excited about practicing and getting this in synch over 100 bpm. I'll probably get at least 2 hours in |

I sometimes get about 2 hours in non stop too but it's not an every day thing unfortunately.
I find that if I practise different things, it keeps it interesting whereas usually I just practise the same 3 licks for 2 hours and get really bored/tired but if I pracise some picking, some tapping and then sweeping, I can go for longer. I just need to get the hell into bed and stop sitting here doing absolutely nothing. Btw, williams part 1 This message is hidden because williams part 1 is on your ignore list HEHE. |
now if only everyone we knew blocked him
I get at least 2 hours in on a daily basis, which never seems like it's enough. The more and more I practice, I will say it seems like I get more and more out of that 2 hours. I think I may work on some In Flames rhythm tracks tonight. I'm pretty excited about downtuning my 7 string and seeing how it goes |
Tuning down to Bb isn't it?
I should listen to more In Flames. What song(s) you learning? |
sorry, just caught this message...
Really, i want to start working on a lot of tracks from "soundtrack to your escape" I'm going to learn Dead Alone first, then probably Touch of Red. I'm so addicted to this CD as of now, that it's cutting into my CoB habbit |
I have that cd. I was at college and someone found it just sitting in a cd player so I grabbed it just for the sake of having it, I'd only ever heard one IF song prior to that.
I told myself I was going to learn some Arch Enemy but I haven't got round to it. Maybe some more Meshuggah too. And Sinergy. |
I could see me learning a meshuggah track or two eventually. I love the positive vibe get from In Flames, and I would like to recreate that
|

And Sinergy.
seriously if you apply yourself and get a teacher and learn classical you can become a really good player, but until you realize that your just a stupid shreddy that cant solo over a simple 3 chord progression you should rethink on what makes a good guitarist and too kurrpt2 you really need to learn to focus on composition and not always speed, sure its a good goal tog et speed but it shouldnt be your main priority. seriosly guys im giving you some good advice get teachers because you both are going down in a rut you soon cant get out of |
i practice perfection, and achieveing that 100% of the time.
|
1 1/2 weeks? That's quite a long time, you're brave to have held it off for this long, but of course, for a good reason, you've done well.
Just remember that you're probably going to play a bit sloppoy when you pick it up again so don't rush, you'll need to slowly bring your fingers back into the routine of playing again, but I'm sure you realise this already...
thanks :) and yes i know. at first i will play only for 30mins to max 1hour and when it will be ok for the first few days i will increase my practise time to 30-1hour twice daily (morning and evening). at first i will do only chromatics and easy chords; then i will move to some metallica stuff and easy songs... i will need 2-3weeks to get to my older level of playing for sure and i will NOT play any stretches (even if they are small) for the whole november.... holy ****... its frustrating but i can deal with it.... at least i improved my picking technique a lot and play in the style of paul gilbert/buckethead :D and i have a BIG list of songs i plan to learn and some of them are easy so i won't get bored until i can play WHATEVER i want to in november :smash: |
I need to work on my picking. My alternate picking is bad, mostly when playing runs and such. The only really fast runs I can play are legato right now.
|
downpicking legato runs are easy... but upwards-legato-runs are much more difficult.
i have problems doing 3-notes per strings runs - its not accurate and fast; i have to work on that. |
yea, you obviously favor down strokes a bit too much...
I've been working on legato and picking hand 85% of the time, which seems to be the 2 biggest things holding me back right now I like doing legato stretches like 1 34 6 , and playing that stretch all the way over the fretboard, getting it perfectly in synch. It makes 3 note per string legato runs so much easier |
no not really... the funny thing is that the problem ARE my downpicks
how i mentioned before i use economic picking while doing 3string runs and the problem are the downs, but i just can't play it alternate... |
your picking hand is confused and your economy picking is causing the problem...
what helped me a lot was spend about 20 minutes and figure out the absolute BEST way for me to do an upstroke, and a down stroke. Like, where the pick is making contact with the string, what motion my wrist is doing, what I'm focusing on, etc. Once you have a frame of reference, I started at like 75 bpm, and started playing 1/8th notes (just with the pick hand, not bringing my fret hand in the picture yet) and really so how well I could reproduce that "perfect" stroke over, and over, and over... for me, I try to achieve that perfection, and I will continue playing at that speed for about 15-20 minutes, or like my practice now where I'm doing legato stretches (1 34 6), I'll play that same tempo unless I can keep it perfect for like 30 minutes straight. I'm really obcessed with eliminating mistakes, so that's the best thing for me |
does anyone know if alexi or other guitarist (as examples) use economy picking on 3notes per string- runs?
|
you easily could do it, but thats part of the problem. If you have ingrained into your muscle memory that you are an economy picker, it will cause problems when you try to break that habbit.
I know loomis uses eco picking in some cases |
yeah, thats it... fe.: 1234 twice on one string and then you're confused when you change strings... :upset:
-> cause of economy picking |
wtf is economy picking?
|
exactly, that's what people don't understand about economy picking, is that eventually you will need to learn alt picking, and it could easily lead to problems
|
does anyone know if alexi or other guitarist (as examples) use economy picking on 3notes per string- runs?
Alexi doesn't. Yngwie does Michael Romeo does Michael Angelo Batio does. |
I never use "economy picking". never. ever. It's just sloppy, imho. I don't "Practice correctly" enough, so it'd make my playing a mess. Plus, alt picking is easier and sounds better.
For a late comment on Alexi's lyrics: Yeah, I like Needled 24/7 lyrically quite a bit. I think the whole Bodom Beach Killings thing is really neat. He took something from his surroundings and kept with it throughout their rise to fame. |
I rarely eco pick.
|
Alexi doesn't.
Yngwie does Michael Romeo does Michael Angelo Batio does.
Which is a good sign that you should stay away from it. :p |
Eh, Paul Gilbert can prawn them all and he alternate picks.
