A lot of those sites just think about famous guitarists, then pick one of their most famous songs. For example, Purple Haze was high up on a similar list I saw.

hendrix isn't terrible, but he's not the greatest of all time.

Meh, he's really not that terrible at all. "Red House" has got some incendiary solos. "Purple Haze" surely isn't all it's cracked up to be, though, true enough.
