I don't forsee that happening though...too little traffic here hahaha
Yeah, I think it'll be fine. As long as people don't go around advertising it in other forums. Haha.

/starts a thread in R&M <_<

Mute Print 03-30-2006 11:58 PM

:p

I haven't counted nominations yet, but I can already tell some bands that are going to do well. RATM for example.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 12:01 AM

I don't think I even listed them...

They have a few good albums but the overall consistency wasn't good enough for me :-\

Mute Print 03-31-2006 12:04 AM

I only have their Self-Titled, but I enjoy it. Not enough to put them on my list though.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 12:07 AM

S/t is generally seen as their best so if that doesn't do it for ya...

Mute Print 03-31-2006 12:10 AM

I think Jom was trying to cheat the nomination process. :p

Hahaha, oh Jom. What a silly kid.

Mute Print 03-31-2006 12:52 AM

Hmm, as of now, 125 bands recieved multiple nominations, but only 66 received more than 2 nominations.

I don't exactly know how I should go about cutting down to 100. :(

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 01:10 AM

Take the 70 or so bands with the same number of noms and make polls...I guess?

PDWAB 03-31-2006 01:13 AM

Put all of the names into a hat, and then send the hat to everyone on the committee. We take turns drawning names until we get to 100.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 01:20 AM

Even better...we could have a huge pop punk meet and all draw names then!

Mute Print 03-31-2006 01:26 AM
Take the 70 or so bands with the same number of noms and make polls...I guess?
That might work, I guess. I'd need six polls, but that would probably be the fairest way to do it.

Good idea. We can hold it on the moon.

:p

:p
Right...that's all I got.

I was thinking China but I like your idea even better.

Mute Print 03-31-2006 01:36 AM

I think I'll end nominations right now, and put up the preliminary polls. I'll probably run them until Saturday morning. There's no need for them to go very long.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 01:38 AM

Sweet, I'll get my votes in before I go to bed :D

Mute Print 03-31-2006 01:49 AM

To make a poll, do I check the box that says insert a poll, and then submit the thread?

Sorry, I've never done it before.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 01:50 AM

NO WAIT DON'T

I mean yes.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 01:56 AM

Haha Joel you cunt.

Keep in mind if he messes up you have to fix it :p

PDWAB 03-31-2006 01:58 AM

Psh sez who? It's my job to mess it up if he does it right!

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:02 AM

no wai man...Spence'll beat u up

lolololol

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:04 AM

Psh I can pull seniority on like half the mods here.

Also have you ever noticed how DBJ and I registered the same month? March 2002 was the month of POWER.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:05 AM

ANd good drummers.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:06 AM

haha, I'm terrible at drumset. Nothin' but rock for me :(

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:07 AM

I was going to say percussionists but I thought you were good on set :-\

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:08 AM

I haven't played set in like.... two years. I was able to fake my way through a gig last December but that's been about it.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:09 AM

Lame...you gotta be like Peart and incorporate the percussion all over a set and be like totally insane.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:10 AM

uh I'm not really focusing on that kind of setting right now

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:12 AM

You can incorporate set in any style of music though...

I thought you were doing Jazz and some Latin though?

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:14 AM

I'm playing Piano in the Big Band and Vibraphone in the Jazz Combo. I'd like to be more knowledgable as far as chords, comping, and harmonic improvisation go. But yeah I just started Latin Percussion lessons and that's going to be great.... but there's no set stuff, it's all about congas, timbales, bongos... all that good stuff.

And yes, you can incorporate set in any style, but it's not standard in every style besides like rock and jazz bands. I need to get better set chops but that's really not my focus right now.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:16 AM

Piano eh? Fun...I wish I could play piano :-\

Right, I figured you weren't getting instructed on set, but I was saying you could incorporate it in that music. Or you can be cool like Santana and have 1 set player and like 2 percussionists besides.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:18 AM

Well Santana has a lot of rock going on in his music anyways. In a lot of the big Latin bands they just have a whole mess of percussionists.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:19 AM

Yeah, but seeing it live kicked. Every percussionist had a fabulous solo. Especially the drummer (Dennis Chambers).

But yeah I've been on a total Latin kick lately so I know all about the immense percussion going on in the more traditional music.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:21 AM

Yeah man it's so bad-A. I was doing "Basic Tumbao" in my lessons and it was kind of a mindfuck because the dominant beat is on 4. It takes some getting used to.

Mute Print 03-31-2006 02:24 AM

Wow, that was hardwork.

Hopefully this works out well.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:25 AM

Yeah...I still can't count, I'm all about feel, but once I nail the feel it's not too bad. Mind, Latin percussion can have some insane hard feels.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:26 AM
Yeah...I still can't count, I'm all about feel, but once I nail the feel it's not too bad. Mind, Latin percussion can have some insane hard feels.
Yeah that's what I did. "Think later, play now!"

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:30 AM
Yeah that's what I did. "Think later, play now!"
right. plus it's a lot more natural when you're actually in a setting. People who rely too much on count can't improv well.

B-Ran: You are so ded 2 me 4 not voting Dredg :(

I wish they would have been in the poll with NWA. Then it would have been no question. But I like Lifetime slightly more than Dredg. :(

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:36 AM

Dredg>NWA>all the other bands in that bad poll :-\

But still :(
