Drum Phil: You gotta hit that 20" HHX Chinese man. It's nice. Maybe not your thing, but check it out. If you like the 18"...

TTTSNB: Jazz Hats? Old or new? Some 1950's A hats may suit you down to a T (or even three T's :)).

Looking to the new, for Sabians, I think you'd have to go for something from the HHX range, maybe the HH range. Check out the HH Dark Hats and HHX Groove Hats. Failing that, use the Sound Check thing, it's pretty easy to navigate: http://www.sabian.com/english/Webmayhem/soundcheck.cfm

Zildjians are a different matter.

Actually, I have to go. I'll finish this later.

gimp fest 03-01-2006 01:37 PM

right, i'm possibly looking for a new crash, all i have is a 16" b8 at the minute, so that has to change.

i was thinking about getting a 14" or 15" meinl amun med, crash. I know all you guys will say go bigger, but i'm not sure.

i play in a funk, pop rocky band and a grindcore band, so i suppose i should go for an 18". But advice is needed.

the options:

14" amun med crash
14 amun powerful crash
18 amun powerful crash
14 raker med crash
18 raker med crash

any help appreciated

Tim 03-01-2006 01:51 PM

dont get a 14 or 15. its definately not big enough. if you want small stick with a 16 seeing how its going to be your main crash. otherwise go with a 17 or 18. I would so go with the medium crash.

thanks man, i might look into 17", sounds like it could be just what i'm looking for.
Could you guys reccomend a good set of jazz hats? Also, a larger ride to compliment my K Custom 20" Dry Ride.
HHX Manhattan Jazz Hats tbh.

I have the 13" pair, and they're amazing.

ringworm 03-01-2006 02:46 PM

Hey guys, how are the Paiste PST 5 & 3 series looked upon in here?
Im no noob to drumming, just in the years that I've taken off, Im afraid Im way behind on cymbal tech. Ive checked out sound clips, its just hard to tell quality wise where they fall. They look like just a slight upgrade from stock cymbals, the kind that quickly bend & warp.

Drum Phil 03-01-2006 02:52 PM

They're intermediate. Thugs replaces his 2002s and rudes with them cause he prefered the sound

ringworm 03-01-2006 03:06 PM

So they hold up pretty good then?

Drum Phil 03-01-2006 03:07 PM

So i hear :)

daveofdoom 03-01-2006 04:00 PM

jazz hats: i just got a pair of k custom sessions, which are great jazz hats.

Time 03-01-2006 04:57 PM

I'm going to get a new ride, and I think I've narrowed it to two. K Custom Session ride or A Custom Medium Ride. which one do you guys think would be a better buy?

Tim 03-01-2006 05:01 PM

two completely different rides there buddy. They wont even sound similar. YOu need to try those both out to make a descision. THe A custom is IMO the only good ride from A custom. The rest sound blad. But regular As are awesome.

sabian 17" vault or 17" hhx?

Tim 03-01-2006 08:10 PM
sabian 17" vault or 17" hhx?
which hhx?

saars 03-01-2006 09:02 PM

stage crash... my bad, i was kinda in a rush.

Tim 03-01-2006 09:12 PM

I would go with the HHX stage crash. The vaults are thin weight and teh HHX stages are Medium.

TTTSNB 03-01-2006 09:21 PM

Alriught, sounds good, vintage cymbals may work nicely. What about a ride?

HeLLmO 03-02-2006 05:35 AM

Vintage A, or maybe Sabian HHX manhatans, maybe something from the HH line like the Duo, or Jack Dejonette's signature Encore Ride(actually, they have lots of good sig Jazz rides) look at Meinl Byzance rides to, they are sick

Chris 03-02-2006 09:46 AM

I got a question for you lot regarding UFIP's.

Do any of you know the difference between the Tiger Series china's and the Experance Tiger China's?

HeLLmO 03-02-2006 06:04 PM

mullets suk 03-03-2006 03:55 PM

I've finally decided on buying a sabian AAX 18" stage crash. i like the price at $155 and its loud, but it also sustains which is wot i was really lookin for. but before i do buy it (in a month or so) are there any complaints with this cymbal. such not sounding good with a genre, breakin easy, or anything along these lines. thaks alot

Tim 03-03-2006 07:58 PM
ok, 17" HHX stage or 17" aax stage?
HHX. I dig the AAX stage too but go with the HHX man.

nope. Ive never had any problems with my stage crash. It cuts well with the music and is very versatile. I use it for all types of music and it sounds great.

Against-the-Scene 03-03-2006 08:32 PM

so now that i've got a job i'll have money for real cymbals, so i just wanna know what cymbals would be best for Grunge/punk type of sound,im looking to spend what ever ill need to,i dont care what brand.

taman4life 03-03-2006 08:34 PM

this might of been asked before but i can't find my answere so do any of you guys know ride chris alder uses? i know its a pa meinl and thats about it thanks for any feed back

saars 03-03-2006 08:39 PM
HHX. I dig the AAX stage too but go with the HHX man.
Sucks though, I have no choice but to go for the AAX. I mean, if i tell my dad it's 175 USD he's gonna flip. He doesn't want me to spend that much money on an instrument I just started playing. What he doesn't understand is that I love drumming so much, I can't stand to quit drumming. Well, anyways, I'll get the AAX stage as an addition to my zxt crash, then buy the HHX (when the time comes) to replace the zxt.

Chester 03-03-2006 09:06 PM

To the couple ppl looking into AAX stage crashes, they are good cymbals for a good price, try them out and see what you think

to saars, that sounds like a good idea, the HHX stage crashes are real good too, darker though obviously (not necesarily a bad or good thing)

styler 03-03-2006 09:23 PM

to phil.

22" k custom ride is the ride i believe your looking for.

18" HHX china
22" novo china

all the ones i can think of at the moment.

saars 03-03-2006 09:23 PM

yeah, I listened to how dark it is on the sabian site, and I just love it!!

Zildjian A series. Not A custom. Just regular A's. Or Sabian AA's

well, i know it's a 24'' ride, and i know it's a mega bell ride. i think it's either a Byzance or an MB20. but i'm not sure if meinl puts out 24'' rides regularly, so it may be custom. go to www.meinlcymbals.com and they have his set up listed there

Retarded Chipple 03-05-2006 07:34 AM

I'm looking for two crisp, solid cutting yet musical crashes. Looking at Sabian AAXplosion or Zildjian A Custom Projection. Want two that would go nicely together, preferably 16" and 18". Any suggestions?

AAXplosions go nicely. I have the 18. I use my 18 with an aax stage crash and it goes ok. Im getting an AA medium thin 18inch though in the mail someitme soon. Ill let you know if they go well together.

Drum Phil 03-05-2006 03:23 PM

Its a 24" MB20 mega bell :) IIRC

Time 03-05-2006 03:42 PM

What do you guys think is the best of the A custom rides? Like, with lots of versatility and all that good stuff.

Drum Phil 03-05-2006 03:43 PM

Too bright. Avedis rides arent bad.
