They have their own distinct style. And you can't say they aren't as good as the Beatles, if you've never heard them. Some say they aren't as versatile.

Some say the Beatles copy the Byrds.
Guys, do you know who won the 1971 Grammy for Album of the Year?

Concert for Bangladesh by George Harrison.

Another one for Harrison.

Also, Led Zeppelin's infamous Stairway to Heaven was partly written as a response to a Harrison remark saying that they don't make nearly enough rock ballads. Jimmy Page even put some of the chord progression of Something at the end of Stairway.

Harrison pushes rock forward... unintentionally!

And for the guy who wants to get into the Beatles, go with Revolver, then you can go anywhere else with that. It's just precisely in the middle. It still had some great songs that reflect their earlier days as well as the sign of progressiveness and weird chorsd that will be all around their later stuff.
That George....one of the coolest men to ever live. Ever. Awesome musician, one of my favorites.

I just started reading The Beatles Anthology the other day....for about the eighth time. I could never get bored of it.

They did... Beatles copied everyone, so they got away with it :p

I have started to read it many times, but I have not yet finished it

robo2448 06-05-2005 04:24 PM

Same here, I just skip around, it's too long to read all the way through.

freestyle1k86 06-05-2005 09:42 PM

How much does the book cost? Roughly

I never knew that was a book I've only seen the Dvd. I'm not too big on reading, it usually takes me 6 or more months to read a book, and by then I forgot what half the book was about.

MalcolmYoungRock 06-05-2005 09:46 PM

I saw a paperback at Borders for 20$ and the hardback was like 60$!

I've never understood why two pieces of cardboard cost $40.
I've never understood why two pieces of cardboard cost $40.
Yeah, me neither. Maybe because it's more support.

DeusExMachina 06-06-2005 11:23 AM

Because people are fools, and are willing to pay lots of money for hardcover.

I have a book in mine, it's absolutley massive.
It's a complete read through of EVERY Beatles song ever commited to vynil.
Pretty cool eh? I haven't managed to churn through it just yet, I'll have a look later though.

Woodstock 06-06-2005 02:52 PM

Walrus Gumboot 06-06-2005 02:57 PM

me too, got it as a Christmas present the year it came out. Never seen a paper back version, that must be really long, because the hard cover pages are really big too.

I borrowed the Anthology from the library, but I would like to have it. There are some great quotes in there.

All Things Must Pass is on the top of my birthday list. I hope I get it.:)

NP: Don't Let Me Down (love this song:cool: It should have been on Let It Be, now I have to buy ...Naked)

magicbus 06-07-2005 08:30 PM

I got Magical Mystery Tour and Revolver yesterday.

It's pretty ironic that a cd (MMT) with such a happy cover can sound so "minor" and creepy.

Listening to "I Am The Walrus" with headphones on is so much better than I've ever heard it on the radio. I've found a new love for this song. I also like "Blue Jay Way" a lot too.

EDIT: Every song on this cd sounds better with headphones. The production is amazing.

DeusExMachina 06-08-2005 02:02 PM

MMT is definitely one of my favorite Beatles albums. It gets no love though... it's sad.

DeusExMachina 06-08-2005 02:03 PM

Question: Are we doing the cover thread competition? If so, what song(s) do you all want to do?

evilmenhavenosongs 06-08-2005 02:04 PM

I only like three The Beatles songs, all are on MMT.

Blue Jay Way
The Fool On THe Hill
I Am The Walrus.

A lot of their other songs annoy me or I'm just apathetic about them but I've heard nowhere near their entire catalogue. Which songs do the have that are similar to the ones I like?

Oh and Penny Lane annoys the hell out of me. Grrrr.

robo2448 06-08-2005 02:31 PM

Well those are all on MMT so I'd suggest you buy that cd and see if you like that whole cd, if I had to recommend 1 song to listen to first though, it would Strawberry Fields Forever, which is also on MMT. Buy Sgt. Pepper's too, as that is similar to MMT, as are certain songs on Revolver.

evilmenhavenosongs 06-08-2005 02:33 PM

I've got MMT, they were the only songs I really liked on it though. I'll see about Sgt. Pepper's, any specific songs?

JonG 06-08-2005 02:37 PM

Have any of you seen that Penny Lane tribute? I'd love to be in that band..

I probably saw that in here..

NP : Ticket To Ride by The Beatles(duh)

Being For the Benefit of Mr.Kite scares me :( (Its on Sgt. Peppers)

'sup thread

I finally got round to ripping Revolver to my pooter today, its an alright album, I'll probably have to listen to it a few times to like it more.

For my Music Tech Arrangement 1 I got to mess around and butcher Eight Days A Week, it was....interestingly fun.

Fixing A Hole
A Day In The Life
With A Little Help From My Friends
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
She's Leaving Home
When I'm Sixty-Four
Getting Better
Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite

Hell, they're all good.

Ooh ooh, I remember this song! I sang it when I was in Primary School! <3 I was Henry The Horse!

I love that song.

I like I'm So Tired as well, I think I seem to like the darker songs more.

robo2448 06-08-2005 03:26 PM

I'm So Tired is on The White Album, my personal favorite. I didn't recommend it for you because the songs listed were all psychadelic and The White Album isn't psychadelic, rather it's a mixture of almost every genre.

Video evidence of that would be dag. You should produce it.

I recommend the white album. It seems like their darkest album to me. Not all of it is dark by a long shot, but it is more so than any other album.
