Has anyone else seen the bootleg of the instrumedley on the SDOIT tour, where Labrie comes on stage riding a scooter and nearly crashes into Petrucci?

 no but that sounds funny.

YouGottaBeCrazy 10-04-2005 01:10 PM
On the song octavarium, the purposely did that though, its not ripping them off, its more paying tribute.
That doesn't really make sense though. When I hear "Never Enough", it sounds like Muse to me. They took Muse's style of songwriting and wrote a song with it. How is this a tribute to them? If they just put a riff in a song that sounded like Muse, then it would just be a reference and a tribute to Muse, but not if they make an entire song off of another band's style. For example, let's take two other DT songs: "Home" and "The Great Debate." "Home" features a bass line and sitar (on keyboards) that is musically similar to Tool's "46 and 2." However, that's the only thing in the song that sounds like Tool, so it's just a reference to another band, showing that they appreciate their music. Now, listen to "The Great Debate." It bears a striking resemblance to Tool, especially "Third Eye" and "46 and 2." The song almost entirely consists of these Tool-influenced parts (with the exception of the chorus which sounds like "Run to the Hills."). It's not a little reference or tribute to another band, it's stealing their style for a song.

I hate Muse and I think the many "references" to them ruins 8V completely. I really think the album is lame....(except the title track obviously)
If they went to Scotland I would be OK to go, just Wolverhampton is a little too far and expensive to get to... :upset:
Yeah, it's really expensive for trains and hotel rooms and stuff. I'm going to London aswell, which is even more expensive (me = skint :() You said you are from the North of England, what part exactly?

I've got this video, it's really nice. If people are looking for more live prog vids google "bootlegmania" and there's a site with more stuff like this (although when I last went on, some of the videos had been removed from the server, most of them still worked though).

scenesfromatheater 10-05-2005 09:07 AM

the instrumedly is one of the least boring DT songs..great bits from most of DTs greatest songs rolled into one. It's played awsome at Budokan

I must have heardx it about 20-30 times now but I still find it one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. Especially when i watch them play it on Budokan, my jaw just drops.

scenesfromatheater 10-05-2005 09:34 AM

and they even play the awsome mega-riff from Change of Seasons with the cool solos after....haha...its cool when Petrucci plays the Simpsons theme on LSFNY

Wow, thanks a ton, thats absolutely increadable. I'm pretty sure its from the same venue that my bootleg of them playing Master of Puppets is from, too.

Do DT play space dye vest live?

That's one of my favourite songs...

Never heard them play it live.
I tried to learn it once, I managed about 10 seconds of the intro before giving up.

Lord Abortion 10-05-2005 02:05 PM

It's awesome...

I have never heard DT play a song I didn't like...

scenesfromatheater 10-05-2005 02:16 PM

the only song they've played that I don't like is Dissapear at Budokan....it's just boring

bwnstl 10-05-2005 03:32 PM

Bah! Disappear is a great song. Just because it doesn't have ridiculous shredding and double bass and keyboard solos doesn't mean it's boring. :(

And they've never played Space Dye Vest live. It was completely Kevin's song and they didn't feel like it was their right to play it live, is how the story goes I think.

Lord Abortion 10-05-2005 03:34 PM

Crap!

True, apart from space dye vest, I don't like it as much as I do other albums.

It's definatly a grower, I never used to be a big fan of it but recently I've been really enjoying it. Scarred is a superb song especially. Still not quite up there with I&W or SFAM though.
True, apart from space dye vest, I don't like it as much as I do other albums.
Space Dye Vest is amazing, I never get tired of it. Its easily one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard.

MAthiAS 10-06-2005 01:59 PM

Space Dye Vest and Scarred alone make Awake worth buying.
