Anyone like More?
That's one of the next Floyd cd's I wanted to get, but I wasn't sure how good it was. I was gonna ask the thread but I forgot. So does anybody have it?

EDIT: Also Money changes from the 7/4 time to 4/4 when it hits the solo. You can count out the beats. Its very cool.
Guys, I've heard that Pink Floyd did a cover of 'Stairway to Heaven.'

One of my friends says he has it, but I haven't been able to hear it, since the first time he told me about it, I wasn't into Pink Floyd and now when I asked him for it, his sister had taken the CD.

So, is it true?
I doubt it.

I think that one's an urban myth.

I saw it asked on google answers, and he said that he found no record of it.

moaner 03-12-2005 11:38 AM
I agree, I personally didn't like the flanger he used on a lot of solo's.
yeah, the rhythm in another brick part 2 was just horrible...

No, it's not true. This song (actually played by Jimmy Page live) is circulating on p2p programs with the artist being labeled as Pink Floyd, Van Halen, and others. If you listen to the song, you can clearly hear Plant's vocals.

The tone in the solo was off, and it was overall very sloppy.

snorfledumpkins 03-12-2005 12:13 PM

It's so hard to chose a favorite song by them, i guess mine would be
sheep
comfortably numb
time
money
hey you
pigs(three different ones)
and young lust

cant' decide between those

Distant Echoes 03-12-2005 06:51 PM

I stopped prcaticing the Comfortably Numb solo as much...when i learn to go down the Pentatonic scale faster (naturally), i think i might try again, but that seems to be my only problem

I say just keep playing it man. The first few times I played it I played it slow as hell, then I went faster and faster as I got more comfertable with it. Now I can rattle the thing off the top of my head with out even paying attention. Just keep at it man you'll be supprised :thumb:

I haven't got it down perfectly, just learned how to do it :upset:

And I haven't recorded it :upset:

Oh my god. Send. I will love you forever.

As for the whole 7/4 time signature thing, almost all music for the past long amount of time has been written in 4/4. Just think about it... tap your feet at an even tempo without any music. Even doing that without any background music, after four beats you feel like you've reached a "completion" of sorts... so, writing a song in which 7 beats makes up a measure, instead of four, is quite difficulty to do, especially if you want it to remain catchy. And Money was catchy enough to make the billboard top 20 (only song with a 7/4 time signature to do so.)

Otherside 03-13-2005 11:29 AM

Ok, give me a few minutes/hours... it's a wierd filing system.

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 11:33 AM

Sure thing, take your time. Do you need my AIM for sending? I'll be on all day, my screen name is DeusExMachina107.

Otherside 03-13-2005 11:37 AM

Ok, this is gonna take approximatly 3 hours to archive for send... It's 4 gigs ><

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 11:39 AM

Yowza... Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate it.

Otherside 03-13-2005 11:40 AM

No problem, it's a weird filing system like I said before, I had to spend a few days trying to figure out how it works ><

But anyways, I'm gonna go, be back in a few hours.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-13-2005 12:35 PM

Just a question...Is the first solo on WYWH played with a slide?

Kingofdudes 03-13-2005 12:37 PM
Just a question...Is the first solo on WYWH played with a slide?
No the first isnt. But the rest of them are with a slide.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-13-2005 12:41 PM

Allright, thanks. I tried playing it with my recently acquired slide, and I got to the part where you slide the fourths, and I got real confused, so I figured, why not ask in the Floyd thread. :p Thanks for the help.

My Live in Venice is 560 mb, I'll try to upload that.

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 12:52 PM

I never got around to learning the later solos in Wish You Were Here... I should do that.

magicbus 03-13-2005 12:53 PM

I'm bad at quick sliding. That's why I can't play SOYCD 6-9 all the way. :upset:

Distant Echoes 03-13-2005 01:05 PM

I know 3 of the 5 songs on wywh...when i feel like it, ill probably learn the rest.

SOYCD 6-9 and Have a Cigar are the two i dont know, but i really need to pile up some effect pedals for quick transitions

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-13-2005 01:11 PM

Yeah, I don't know the last 2 solos on WYWH. They're not Gilmour's best work...What are some other solos that Gilmours uses a slide on?

Kingofdudes 03-13-2005 01:20 PM
Yeah, I don't know the last 2 solos on WYWH. They're not Gilmour's best work...What are some other solos that Gilmours uses a slide on?
High Hopes(it is recordered on a steel guitar, but I am sure it can be done with a regular guitar)
One of these days
A Saucer full of Secrets(If you can call it a solo :amaze: )

Distant Echoes 03-13-2005 01:21 PM

My favorite slide solos are high hopes and One of these days

But he has so many...It makes me want to learn slide guitar really bad, but i make my guitar sound retarded when i try, so for the good of music - i stop

lunch998 03-13-2005 01:36 PM

It's absolutely necessary that one of you learns the solo in SOYCD(6-9).

kux0 03-13-2005 01:40 PM

the solo's in soycd are so beautiful. im learnin them right now. All the guitar magizines and all the "music ""experts"" " say that time was the best solo he ever did...and i stongly dissagree. i think the money solo was better...with the sax and the dropped beat it just goes along much more. dont get me wrong the Time solo is awesome but not his best work. What do you think sid barrets best gutiar solo/riff was?

lunch998 03-13-2005 01:41 PM

Interstellar Overdrive.

kux0 03-13-2005 01:46 PM

agreed. i like the riff in lucifer sam. its really 007-esque :)

its a really rad song. but you cant forget about bike.

moaner 03-13-2005 03:38 PM

In Beyond The Darkside, the drummer played with those sticks as well. It was awesome.

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 04:36 PM

Personally, the Time solo is the best solo on DSOTM. But, for his best work, I'd say either SOYCD 1-5 or Comfortably Numb. Or maybe Echoes for that awesome part at about 18 minutes.
