I just bought Nick and the Seeds' No More Shall We Part, I haven't listened to it yet, as it is being pushed back by my current obsession with Cat Power and Murder City Devils.

Devendra banhart. Oh my gosh, he's so awesome. He needs more recognition. I knew his name for some time but i just recently discovered the music, and what good music it is :)

The lyrics are so cool; Little yellow spider laughing at the snow, maybe that spider knows something that i don't know cause i'm goddamn cold!

How cool is that :) From the song Little Yellow Spider. You peeps should check it out :)..

Bartender 02-02-2005 11:32 AM

I've been listening to Kaada/Patton's Romances album a lot today. It's really grown on me since I first got it.

Tangy zizzle 02-02-2005 04:47 PM

I bought Worlds Apart yesterday, pretty dissapointing.

I liked it quite well the first time I heard it, and have only had the urge to put it on once since then. Reverse reactions!

BillCosby 02-02-2005 04:56 PM

Low are cool.

Normally a metal head I've been listening to a lot of post-rock lately.

Does Sigur Ros count as post-rock?

All the side projects of GY!BE and GY!BE themselves
Pelican (post metal?)

NineBitFable 02-02-2005 06:33 PM

Listening right now to Pixes Surfer Rosa... I then plan on listening to My Bloody Valentine.

In other news, it turns out I spent about a hundred and fifty dollars last month on music. Ouch, guess whos broke now?

Happymeal 02-02-2005 07:52 PM

^ouch.

I have the sudden urge to check out Jagjaguwar Records' bands right now.

$150 in a month isn't that bad. But I'm guessing you have no source of income other than your parents.

got that right... Could get a job if I wanted... but I dont care that much I'll just have to wait a little longer to buy cds.

Zappa 02-02-2005 09:42 PM

I'm listening to this demo I got from a drummer who played at the local art gallery some months ago. His name is M.Sord, and he's a cool dude.

Tapeworm 02-03-2005 12:43 AM

I listened to Lyre of Orpheus/Abbatoir Blues this morning and I was bloweded away.
Pelican (post metal?)
I'm interested.

I've been listening to Maudlin of the Well. Very interesting band.

Tomahawk 02-03-2005 01:35 AM

I've pretty much only been listening to:

The Polyphonic Spree
The Beach Boys
Mercury Rev

So that sort of stuff. Can anybody suggest some other bands along those lines? Other than the obvious ones?

Tangy zizzle 02-03-2005 01:40 AM

Dios Malos maybe?

pinkyeti 02-03-2005 02:28 AM

I've been listening to some Can lately, I think I'll get 'Monster Movie' soon.

KappaKid17 02-03-2005 07:59 AM

I read Oedipus Rex and The Bacchae the other night while listening to Explosions in the Sky, and it was surreal.

Oh yeah, I'm really digging EiTS right now...again.

talk show host 02-03-2005 08:14 AM

I listened to Xiu Xiu earlier and had lots of fun.

Tapeworm 02-03-2005 09:14 AM

Question Time!!!!!

Did J Mascis play all the lead guitar for Dino Joonya?

If so, wow.

Happymeal 02-03-2005 10:05 AM

Well there were only the three of them so I guess so Tapeworm sir.

Tapeworm 02-03-2005 10:51 AM

Intriguing, I wasn't sure of the amount of members. I guess he just played both/all parts on records.

Best. Guitarist. Ever.
I liked it quite well the first time I heard it, and have only had the urge to put it on once since then. Reverse reactions!
It's a great album, but I think it lacks some of the long term appeal of some of Patton's other stuff.

YDload 02-03-2005 05:20 PM

Mr. Bungle- Ars Moriendi

Thanks to Zappa for the song (and for el doctor for the recommendation). Eastern European folk metal is just what I was looking for.

Iai 02-03-2005 05:23 PM

J Mascis was called 'the indie Jimi Hendrix' by Q this month.

Anyway, I feel like I should be digging Rufus Wainwright's Want Two, because I read some reviews and I already love the album, despite having not heard a note of it.

I actually have been digging Dinosaur Jr, and L'Arc~En~Ciel.

3rdplanet 02-03-2005 05:27 PM

I have been listening to Cursive a lot for quite a while, but can't find any bands like them, or bands that make a good progression from them into more alt. music, do anybody have any recommendations?

Happymeal 02-03-2005 05:31 PM

^The Good Life, lol. Check out the whole Saddle Creek batallion(Azure Ray, The Faint, Bright Eyes, etc).

If you like a Mr. Bungle with less metal and more prog noodling, you might like Ruins.
