Ad Absurdum 08-07-2005 12:25 PM

I really need to get that Petrucci solo album, I've been meaning to buy it for ages but I've just kept spending money on different things.

I had a great band practice today; I play in a blackened tech death band but all the stuff we'd done so far had just been writing between me (guitar) and vocalist. I went to practice today, and it turns out the drummer is a huge Dream Theater fan, we played 'Learning To Live', 'Stream Of Consciousness', 'Metropolis Part One' and parts of 'The Dance Of Eternity'. If I get a chance to record with this guy, I'll post some Dream Theater tracks in here.
It's a CD problem - the track Curve is split between 6 and 7. It's like that on the CD too, if I remember correctly.
thank you kind.
If I ever see the original album in my store and I have the money, I will buy it :)

ytsedrummer 08-08-2005 05:50 AM

I may be wrong here, but isn't the album only available from John's official site? I haven't seen it in any CD stores. Like I said, I could be wrong.

the2stranger 08-08-2005 05:52 AM

^

ow
hahah
that explains, why I haven't seen it anywhere, if I can only order it of his site, nevermind, that's a bit too much trouble

MAthiAS 08-08-2005 09:56 AM

Its not too much trouble to download it.

FlyingPaul_83 08-08-2005 10:00 AM

would you like me to upload his solo album?

if you come into a Dream Theater thread and ask for their best 3 albums you will get a mixed answer and possibly spark of more debate amongst everyone.

My three are:
Scenes From A Memory
Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
Train Of Thought

those are the more heavier kind of albums but they all still have prog stuff in them.

Burdcheese 08-09-2005 04:38 AM

I got A Change of Seasons this morning. Great album - and the covers are marvellous. The only problem I have with it is that they could have played a bit more of the songs they covered. The whole of Bohemian Rhapsody would have been great :)

MAthiAS 08-09-2005 04:47 AM

My only complaint with that album is they didn't cover Rush.

Burdcheese 08-09-2005 05:09 AM

Hmm... Dream Theater playing 2112. I live in hope.

Replace Scenes with Awake, or even Images & Words, and yeah the albums are their heavier stuff I think.

I'd really like to hear that. That's one of my favorite songs.

Who did they cover? I've got their cover of Hey You on my computer and its amazing, quite possibly better than the original.

No, it really isn't.

replace x's with t

can someone please, PLEASE, listen to that and identify the various riffs. I think its only like 3 or 4, but im looking specifically for the first one and the faster one after it.

If it matters, its before a live recording of Different strings.

juggalotricksta 08-09-2005 01:16 PM

Finally got Suspended Animation...and only two and a half months after I ordered it!

Glasgow Kiss = pwnage :thumb:

Moses 08-09-2005 02:43 PM

Awake is starting to grow on me. 6DOIT is really expensive, is it really worth buying?

the2stranger 08-09-2005 03:00 PM

yes it is worth it
and remeber it's a double cd.
it's worth it's price for the glass prison alone ;)

Moses 08-09-2005 03:03 PM

The Glass Prison was the original reason I wanted to buy it. Any other staples on that album?

the2stranger 08-09-2005 03:09 PM

blind faith, and the entire 2nd disc ( which is one song)
it's really worth your money
the great debate is great too (very floyd like)

go buy it, you won't be disappointed ;)

Triangle 08-09-2005 03:10 PM

I got from Six Degress... from play.com for the sum of 10 English pounds :D Well worth it, especially since it's my favourite DT.

The Great Debate Floyd like? I would rather say Tool than PF imo.

GenuineImitation 08-09-2005 03:11 PM

Speaking of the glass prison. I heard that The glass prison, this dying soul and the root of all evil share the same lyrical theme. Is that true and if so, what is it?

Moses 08-09-2005 03:13 PM

Thing is I bought 8 albums with my last paycheck and my job has been closed for remodleing for the past two weeks so my paycheck will be like 39 bucks.

Taken from dtfaq.com-
TGP was written about the first 3 steps in the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step Program, and after SDOIT came out Mike said he would like to write a song on each album that continued with that theme. This Dying Soul is about steps 4 and 5.

The two songs share some lyrics and a riff, and there is also some small references to The Mirror, which is about the same subject.
it's about the 12 step aloholics anonymous program, each song discribes a few steps of the plan :)
