Hahaha.
|
Good idea.
|
My friend listens to alot of pop-punk, but calls all the bands he listens to emo or screamo. I tried explaining emo and screamo to him about a million times, but he just doesn't listen, so I think I'm gonna shoot him in the anus with a crossbow.
|
Do it
|
I'm gonna, I just have to get him away from his girlfriend, or you know, she'll call the police, have me arrested and all that. Or I could just shoot her too.
|
Beat him with a Billy Club
|
Funny you should mention a Billy Club, my friend's name is Billy.
|
dont shoot him just give him some music that is actually emo/screamo
may i suggest Saetia or Love Like... Electrocution.? |
Yeah, I'm sure he would like Saetia. He already likes a bit of Hot Cross, but I think screamo would be too chaotic for him. He does like a smidgen of Orchid though.
|
Make him listen to Epilogue of a Car Crash by Orchid. That was my first screamo song ever and it kicked so much ass .
|
I had him listen to my favorite Orchid song, "Death of a Modernist" and he liked it. I'll just expose him to more, little by little.
|
Does he listen to any grindcore? I had listened to like Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Pig Destroyer for a while before I got into screamo and it seemed like a natural progression. So if he's down with grind it shouldn't be too chaotic for him.
|
He hates grind. But he thinks Anal Cunt is pretty funny. But I'm not sure if he actually likes the music.
|
make him listen to As The Sun Sets
|
He would hate that. I wouldn't even bother.
|
Oh what about.......Funeral Diner?
|
make him listen to this...
http://www.purevolume.com/behindcrimsoneyes  where his faith now haha |
Oh what about.......Funeral Diner?
thats decent shi't. |
What time is it in your state?

Is it bad that I'm disagreeing with some of the bands listed in the emo section?
I realize i'm a 'newb', but that doesn't hinder my knowledge of music, especially the genre screamo. Surely not all of you agree with the list.. |
I find it funny how I read the rules and guidelines on this group, and you have the audacity to point out that I'm new on the threads, when it mentions that elitists, like yourself, shouldn't post about anyone new, old, etc etc..
So many posts make you knowledgable about music? Uhh no. I've seen many posts by people that have over 1000 posts or so and are complete dimwits, you're proof of this. There's no need in being rude when you know nothing of my musical preference or knowledge, this has nothing to do with self-educating, it has to do with common sense.. Saetia, Hot Cross, Spirit of Versailles, Trophy Scars, Funeral Diner, etc etc..ALOT of the emo bands list is not correct, you obviously don't know what actual emo bands are. I'd gladly list you tons..but you barely even have any of the actual and/or even original emo bands. Anywho, as negative as this post sounds, I'm not trying to be mean, just informing you. If you want to take this comment in a pessimistic way, then so be it, but you should really look at it as constructive crticism. I may not know everything, and neither do you, but I know for sure the amount of posts someone makes doesn't make them correct, nor does it prove that someone's points are valid, so don't point me out as a 'nooblet' and talk down to me as if I know nothing, when I've plainly proven that I know more than you've given me credit for. |
Mediocrity, I think I love you. Finally, someone who knows their shit.
I can understand people adding Saetia and Hot Cross and bands similar, 'cause they are very close to the emo genre, but to have Trophy Scars on an emo list? Come on. |
I'm sure you're very knowledgeable, but you can't just make statements like 'I'd gladly list you tons..but you barely even have any of the actual and/or even original emo bands' without backing them up. If you have an opinion on the genre classification these kids are using share it, tell us what you consider to be an emo band and why the present definition/list is flawed. Present an argument!!!
When a new person comes on here it tends to be someone claiming that Taking Back Sunday is the best emo band and everyone here is an idiot for not agreeing. So perhaps you can forgive the veterans of this board being more than a little cynical when someone comes on and tells them their band list is wrong. That guy is normally really helpful and nice, hence him being a mod. Maybe he was just having a bad day. (I dont really think trophy scars is emo either....) |
Why's everyone hating on Dfelon, I didn't see anything offensive about what he said, just explaining why the list was there.
Also, I see how some people feel that the newer "emo" bands don't belong in the same genre as the late 80's/early 90's ones, but seperating and over-analysing a genre that is already misunderstood is just going to split it into factions even more. |
The Saetia thing is bullshit. Torn left, remember? I don't want to hear "Saetia is an extremely emotional hardcore band, not an emo band," that's bullshit. I mean, you can be picky to a point. I could go through every hardcore band and say "Blacklisted is a heavy, fast punk band not a hardcore band." Every single band on that list has enough emotion to the point where there should clearly be a diffrent sub genre for them.

I fail to see a lot of emotion from Saetia, actually. Sure there's exceptions (1:50 on Some Natures ftw) but yeah. And after watching live videos, I fail to see the emotion even more. It's more just like Billy has a voice that sounds sad but he isn't. Artsy hardcore. Feel free to drop some knowledge bombs on me. Edit: I wasn't saying ANYTHING against you, Dfelon. I don't give a shit if you bash icecreamxcore, hell I bash icecreamxcore. It's a stupid joke band but I have fun in it. All I said is that a lot of people don't know as much as some people think and that Trophy Scars shouldn't be on the list. I fail to see where it got personal. |
The list is indeed just a guideline, so don't come complaining if your favourite emo-bands aren't on that list..the list is correct (well, except for Trophy Scars maybe). And yes, the late 80's and early 90's emo is differrent from the newer emo like Electric Ocean mentioned, but that doesn't mean the newer emo isn't emo at all. Every type of music evolves over the years even if it is just a little bit. And you wouldn't call Still life, Indian Summer, Rites of Spring, Native Nod etc original emo-bands?? Because those bands are on the list to.
Maybe it wasn't really nice of Dfelon to call you a noob, but so far you haven't proven otherwise. |

I'm sure Billy was sad when he wrote, cause those lyrics are sad, but i do think his voice exentuates his sadness. Plus, for me at least, I heard Saetia before any other emo/screamo band. So they were like amazng then, but once you hear more bands, that are more emotional, they stay amazing, but not as much. And you see that there isn't AS much emotion as you thought. |
City Of Caterpillar aren't screamo. They took the idea of emo and branched off and did some really fuckeded up shit a lot of people call post-emo. Clikatat Ikatowi and Antioch Arrow screamo? What the hell? Where is this Love Lost But Not Forgotten style material I haven't heard? Everything I have by them is no where NEAR that level of chaos. Antioch are just kinda fast at some points and Clikatat are pretty mellow from what I've heard.
A lot of the list is correct, yeah, but there's some big mistakes. I don't really care all that much but if someone brings it up, I'll talk about it. Having bands like Trophy Scars on there though can cause lots of confusion. I agree with you about new emo. Edit: To Saturday Supercade |
