They were okay/good til they sold out.

And by 'sold out' I mean changed their sound to get on MTV, made music videos, signed a major label for money and raised ticket prices for their shows.
Their sound just evolved you dumb fuck.
They had 3 music videos BEFORE Sing the sorrow came out.
Money is what keeps a musician making music in our world because it costs a buck or two to eat. Raised ticket prices...... wow, im guessing this kid is about 15 years old seeing as how he doesnt understand basic economics.

Supply vs Demand. Only a certain number of people can fit inside a concert hall. Lets say it holds 1000 people.

How many people are willing to pay 1 dollar to see AFI? Just about anyone in america.

How many people are willing to pay 10 bucks to see AFI? Just about anyone with knowledge of the band.

How many people are willing to pay 50 bucks to AFI? Just a bunch of Die-hard AFI fans.

So 25 bucks isnt unreasonable if you want to see the band. I Payed 45 bucks to get into street scene last year, and they are the only band i saw.

AND get this..... They dont set the price for how much the ticket costs. The owners of the venue do. They do get paid but they dont say, i will only play if i get paid 5 dollars a head. They get paid a set ammount regardless of how many people show up. The ammount of people that show up just determine how much they get paid next time, or if there is even a next time.

So how about NEXT TIME you read what you are saying BEFORE you open your mouth and start typing away half thought out ideas.

ALSO, if AFI are sell outs for being on Dreamworks record label. I guess the Ramones are Hella sell outs for being on Warner Bros. records.
I've never listened to the cure so what's some cure covers by AFI?
"The Hanging Garden" which is on the A Fire Inside EP.

"Just Like Heaven" which was performed live for a Cure tribute thingy.

Tjebby 07-09-2005 11:08 PM

My Michelle was a pretty good cover of theirs. I forgot who did the original.

El_Shiznit 07-09-2005 11:09 PM

Guns N' Roses did the original. It was off of the Punk Goes Metal compilation.

Tjebby 07-09-2005 11:13 PM

Yeah, thats what I thought. That was about the only song I liked on that cd... If I remember right.

Rise Me Up 07-09-2005 11:17 PM

I've been in love with AFI lately. They are avery unique band, from Answer That And Stay Fashionable to Sing the Sorrow.

ScuzzBucket89 07-09-2005 11:23 PM

I could never really get into AFI, their lead singer always came off as sortof "whiney" to me, at least their new stuff anyways. Is their older stuff different??

wtf is going on with all this ahahaha?

Illidan 07-10-2005 09:52 AM

I don't like them at all, they call themselves punk, when they aren't. They did a cover of Misfits--Last Caress which wasn't anything more than crap. I think they have potential, but right now, they are emo, and I am getting sick of it, especially the early stuff. I do like a couple songs, which are Silver and Cold, The Boy Who Destroyed the World, Girls Not grey, and God Called In Sick Today. That's all though.. that's my opinion.

Kepone-Factory 07-10-2005 10:55 AM

I never got into this band..

am I missing out?

El_Shiznit 07-10-2005 11:41 AM

Yes.

tolazy4aname 07-10-2005 11:57 AM

afi is ****ing awsome
I got into them before i was even into punk. Sing the sorrow was one of my first cds ever, although i'm ashamed to admit that i also bought a simple plan cd at the time and i've spent the past year fasting and preying to the gods of punk to forgive me.

(afi kicks ***)

tolazy4aname 07-10-2005 11:58 AM

you can't even write *** !?!?

HTLSM 07-10-2005 12:51 PM
I hate sing the sorrow. I like Very Proud Of Ya and Answer That and Stay Fashionable. Cereal Wars and Cruise Control are good songs. Jade Puget is the man.
The lineup on those albums was Davey Havok, Geoff Kresge, Mark Stopholese, and Adam Carson. The only thing Jade did was the backing vox
"The Hanging Garden" which is on the A Fire Inside EP.

There's gotta be another Cure cover...it seems so odd that they've only done 2...maybe there'll be one on the new album

cheeser_1 07-10-2005 09:56 PM

man, you should read through the thread, gather your responses (excluding things that have already been said), and just have one post.

maco 07-10-2005 10:17 PM

I have an idea http://geocities.com/macoafi/afi/bio.html There. That's the bio I made for AFI back in December. It's as complete as I could manage from memory.

For any album news stuff, everyone should look at Ixnay & Alli's site www.afiseries.com which has all of the lyrics (well, it's a new-ish site so some aren't up yet), the complete song list, a lot of set lists, the complete discography (every edition of every cd/vinyl/etc), and all the up-to-date news.

vnvrymdreglage 07-12-2005 12:23 PM

AFI is a great band. I used to be absolutely obsessed with them in seventh grade and I bought all of their CDs. I'd say either The Art of Drowning or Sing the Sorrow are my favorite albums as far as the general feel of the overall record goes. However, my favorite songs are The Boy Who Destroyed the World, The Last Kiss, Now the World, Reivers' Music, and Bleed Black.

HorrorPunk† 07-12-2005 12:46 PM

I like AFI answer that and stay fashionable is my favorite album.I wanna a mohawk is my favorite song.
i used ot lik em' now i dont .... im a classic rock fan now
uhh....you can like multiple types of music....I mean, I've listened to classic rock, motown, soul, old R&B, disco, funk, and punk (well, the Clash, at least) my whole life. I added modern R&B and rap and hip hop like 7 years ago. I added ska two years ago. I added techno, EBM, hardcore, and industrial last year. I still listen to all of them (though rap, hip hop, and modern r&b are mainly just when my brother and sister choose the music because they aren't the top of my list)
