Exactly. Being a poser involves a mindset, not what bands you listen too. Someone can like Blink 182 and not be a poser, but if they say "i r00l blink iz t3h hardc0re punkz!!!!!!1111111", then they are a poser.
Quoted for truth. I like Blink-182 also...its good happy music once in awhile. Good to have something simple to listen to occasionally. |
I'm friends with one guy who is kinda obsessed with Slipknot. He just all of a sudden started wearing the saim slipknot **** every day and belives slipknot is one of the greatest bands ever. I like the group but i dont think of them to be that great

He has an opinion...nothing wrong with that. When he forces others to believe with him in his opinion, THEN there is a problem. |
true
|
"I like Children of Bodom. Bed of Razors is their best song"
then you instantly know it's the only song they have because they accidentally downloaded it while getting Good Charlotte |
whats with all the slipknot bashing anyway? What makes them sellouts? Its just music.
|
I just find Slipknot to be obnoxious garbage with nothing particularly musically interesting. I never really say them as anything groundbreaking or even special to begin with.
Not in relation to the music, but I also think their singer is a pretentious ass. Anyway, that's just my stance. I feel that the American metal scene has watered down significantly since the explosive surfacing of the death metal scene in the late 80's. There are still good bands here, but they're getting harder and harder to find. |

thats why all the old metal bands like Judas Priest and Motley Crue are coming back. They dont like what we have to listin to nowadays.
|

I wouldn't go that far. I think it's more the fact that since metal is becoming popular again, record companies are willing to promote them more. |

Are you saying metal today is garbage? That is very wrong; Slipknot is a total disgrace to most of the metal out there. |

I like a lot of new metal. Especially the New Wave of American Heavy metal minus Slipknot and Killswitch Engage. So that leaves....Lamb of God and Shadows Fall.... :upset: at least according to my friend's Guitar One, those are the 4 bands heading the NWOAM |
Speaking of new metal, I posted two mp3s of Lunatica in the Up and Coming Bands thread. Proof that metal is not dead or dying. It's merely gone underground.
|
yeah.
|
A "poser" is a person who attempts to blend into a specific social group..
i.e. Someone who hears one Pink Floyd song and goes out to buy a tshirt. From Hot Topic of course! But, People who listen to Slipknot, etc. etc. aren't posers if they actually listen to the music and enjoy it. Although I don't know how you could. -_- |
dont bet me wrong. I do like new metal. I just like the older stuff better
|
dont bet me wrong. I do like new metal. I just like the older stuff better
How much of the new stuff have you heard? |
I listin to Korn and stuff like that
|
no. just no.
|
/does'nt care for people trying to be someone or something they really are'nt.
|
I listin to Korn and stuff like that
Okay. Let me think for a minute... Okay, here's some new bands and some relatively new ones who are worth a look: Iced Earth Kamelot Lunatica Wuthering Heights Lost Horizon Children of Bodom Kalmah Norther Skyfire Cryonic Temple DragonForce Firewind Human Fortess Melechesh Opeth Wintersun Some of those are more extreme than others, but they've all got very strong qualities. |
Add to list: Nightwish, Nile, and Arch Enemy.
Otherwise, a good list. |
I wasn't saying that just because i like mudvayne, i actually don't like them it just sounds like a stupid thing to say lol "i can play all of their songs" that is a pretty weird thing to say, but i guess your answer was pretty reasonable
Point taken, I should've been more exact with what I said.
I just find Slipknot to be obnoxious garbage with nothing particularly musically interesting. Sweden and Norway are my favorite countries as far as metal is concerned. America still has great bands like Iced Earth and Nile to it's name though. |

Actually I forgot a lot of bands.
Nightwish Nile Arch Enemy Angra Edguy Hammerfall Symphony X Mastodon |
I like some of Shadows Fall, but i'm not big on Killswitch Engage.
|
Rhapsody? Sonata Arctica?
I'm just throwing out power metal bands off the top of my head...its late, and i can't think straight. |
I might get killed for this, but I still enjoy a lot of Dimmu Borgir. Everybody hates them now, but I really enjoy their orchestrated stuff.
|
I like some of Shadows Fall, but i'm not big on Killswitch Engage.
Well, more "popular" metal bands, mind you... I'm sure there's some great underground metal act that the US hasn't discovered yet. And Dimmu Borgir is decent...i think they go a bit over the top with their image, but they have a few decent tunes. |
It seems Blind Guardian was left out of that list.
I'd also like to add: Ulver Immortal Emperor Darkthrone Cryptopsy In Flames Lykathea Aflame Mithras |
Is Otep any good?
|
Hey...i forgot there were other genres than metal there for a minute.
Stupid non-sleepiness... Anyway...heres a few decent non-metal bands. Alterbridge Strung Out Rise Against Tool 311 Cold Can't think of any more at the moment... |
Is Otep any good?
Depends if you like the ultra-heaviness opposed to melody... Personally, i like them. The chick from that band can outscream dozens, if not hundreds, of others, including guys. |
Hey...i forgot there were other genres than metal there for a minute.
What is wrong with you? There are no other genres! :p |
Please do not repeat the name of Alterbridge in a list of "decent" bands ever again. ;)
|
Please do not repeat the name of Alterbridge in a list of "decent" bands ever again.
Please open up your mind and do not judge the band just because they had former Creed members in it. Seriously, Tremorti (sp?) can bust out great solos, and they have great guitar riffs as well. The drums, while they could be better, aren't complete crap, and the singing is heartfelt and emotional. Sounds like a decent band to me...guess it all depends on your taste. |
Please do not repeat the name of Alterbridge in a list of "decent" bands ever again. ;)
Alterbridge actually aren't bad. But Tremonti was way too over-zealous on that record. His solos slipped into the masturbatory too often. |
I like alterbridge more than creed. never really got into them
|
Are any of you going to check out those Lunatica uploads I put up at all?
