Do cult of luna creep into the doom bracket? The new Candlemass album is pretty cool.

This should interest some of you. New Pelican review up on sputnik for the March into the Sea EP. You should all hear at least the title track. Also, check out Mare. Excellent band (I also wrote that review earlier this week)

From my brief meeting with Doom bands, I have deduced that the genre name is compltley off, as most Doom bands are influenced by Sabbath, and just make plain good old funs tunes...or I may be wrong.

But, Sabbath has one of the most dark/evil sounds.

Black Sabbath = Supernaut.

About as dark as a banana.

Listen to Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath, and some of their slow songs.

I just whant to know if theres any one that has heard of blind dog or grand magus and what they think of them I love em' I wish there where more bands like them.

reverend bizzare is my favorite doom band.

Cult of Luna...eh, I'm not sure. I've only heard one song by them (can't remember which one) but I thought it sucked anyway.

Is the new Candlemass album already out?

It doesn't seem so. I can't find it for sale on places like Amazon, anyway.

I quite like Cult of Luna. They're not doom, though.

Bands you might like.... hmmm if it's the vocals of Candlemass you don't like well firstly you are a heathen but maybe try someone like Thee Plague of Gentlemen who have much more ballsier vox. The Gates of Slumber are ace, as are Orodruin, Revelation are one of my favourite bands. Try those and then get back to me.

Everyone should go listen to Subterranean Masquerade. A bit of a progressive symphonic doom super group.

Has anyone here heard Slumber? They released an EP that was a rerecording of their two demos. I suppose melodic doom is what to call them. Quite good but they have a tendency to get a littole old. Listen to Rapture if you can find it.

I like a lot of stoner rock aka fuzz rock or whatever you want to call it. Kyuss, Fireball Ministry, QOTSA, Fu Manchu, and Black Sabbath who is pretty stoner rock even though there not really considered it.

i've heard subterranean masquerade's ep Temporary pyschotic state. Have they done anyhting else, i am interested in hearing it.

On a different note, today after returning from college i found at my door, orodruins album epicruean mass. And what a classic. Everyone song is a great.

I just listened to fallout which is on Slumber's site. Its pretty **** good.

I have "As The Flower Withers" and I would consider more black metal than Doom Metal

It's more death metal really and not that representative of their later stuff. Of which Angel and the Dark River may be a good indication of their style.

Still doom death though.

At the moment I'm listening to While Heaven Wept: Chapter One. It's an anthology of all their work up to 1999. And it's really rather good. Not as polished as Of Empires Forlorn but the quality is still there.

Stopping in to metnion that October Tide are awesome. Is it a trend among doom bands to have months in their name? Novermber's Doom, October Tide... are there any more?

Ive heard of a band called september 12, but have not heard anything by them.

Wow, you've heard of November's Doom as well? They're awesome.

Anyway, I don't know about the doom bands-months trend, but if you look at it, all of those bands with certain months in their names have months that occur during Fall (or autumn or whatever you want to call it), which is a pretty gloomy time of the year. So if you think about it, those names are perfect for doom bands.

While December - February are black metal months. Dark and cold.

I want to know what Jon has to say about Slumber.

I've never heard them. Maybe I'll try and download tonight (no-no to downloading at work!)

Cambian Dawn - great St Vitus style doom.
Icefall - only did demos so good luck finding them!
Isole - used to be called Forlorn, ace melodic epic doom
Gorilla Monsoon - seriously - they sound like Thee Plague of Gentlemen.
Iron Hearse - UK band playing in a The Obsessed stylee
Iron Man - been going forever!
