SH*T!
Hot ****!
This thread is huge regardless if Double Bass Jim wasn't luvin it!

My name is Jeff. I live in Los Angeles. At the age of 43 I am living out a long lost desire to be a rock and roll drummer. When i was a young dawg like most of you i wanted to be a drummer first, a Formula 1 Driver second and a Fashion Photographer third. I settled for number 3!

For my birthday in December my fiancee' bought me my first drum kit. A Ludwig CS Custom Natural Birch. She knew I always had this unfulfilled dream. That's why I love her!

I just made my first upgrade with a purchase of two Zild Custom A crashes and I am still high! I have a long way to go and not as much time as you youngins to get there..

I like all music. I love Punk, I love Rock, I love Jazz. I saw Bonham and Moon play and a gazillion others in between and since...I've seen alot. I've heard alot.

This board is cool...it has really help me out....KEEP ON POSTIN :thumb:
I hear ya. Play guitar as well. Got over £1000 worth of guitar gear and...*calculates*...just short of £1000 worth of drumkit related stuff, not including the running cost of picks and sticks. Think what kind of setup I could have for one or the other if I only played one...
Man.

(in Australian Dollars)

$1,700 - Maton ECW80C Acoustic
$450 - Legend Les Paul copy
$210 - MT 2
$0 - inherited amp (Looking to upgrade soon with a Fender or Roland amp possibly (solid state because although tube is nice, it's also way too expensive and you have to be careful incase tubes blow (which also costs money)))

and that's just the guitar.. (plus some more expenses like leads, picks, capos, tuners, guitar stands.. etc. etc.)

Then the drums (not in order)..

$450 - my first drumkit, Ashton in red.. traded it in for drum bags
$1150 - Yamaha Stage Custom Standard
$130 - B8 Pro Ride second hand
$130 - old A Zildjian ride, 20"
$280 or something - UFiP 16" Rough Series
$320 or 360 or something - UFiP 18" Rough Series
$150 or 105 (I don't remember this crap..) - Basix Snare
a bunch of skins from attack, evans and remo. $400 or so
a BUNCH of drumsticks from Zildjian, Vater, Vic Firth, Pro Mark, Drumpower
and no name. (GO VIC FIRTH AND VATER! HURRAH HURRAH!)
$80 - Second hand Wuhan china (thanks much theflame85!)
$100 - crappy brass hi hats (can get them for $60 now)
$300-350 or so - Gibraltar double pedal.
$105 or so - Wuhan 10" splash
$120-60 - Tama stand
$30 - Powerbeat stand x2 (30 each)

and a bunch bunch more..

And then I have bought 2 $500 or so violins plus prices for the cases and bows and rosin (sold off the older violin and bought my ufip 16").

So yeah.. lots of money..

l3n 03-02-2005 01:29 AM

RichHunt 03-02-2005 01:58 AM

big mac 03-02-2005 02:42 AM

Hi everyone!I'm Dan(18 years old) and i live in romania in a small town,Braila.I've been drumming for about 1 year.I use a Tama swingstar kit united with a no name kit so now it's a 8 pcs kit :3 toms, 2 floor toms,2 bass drums and a snare. The cymbals i use are various:16" crash,20"ride and 14"hats that came with the tama kit(they sound pretty good though,i love the sound of the crash), 16 Paiste 802 and a 10" paiste mini china(it's pretty old,you can't even read the logo anymore) and a Stagg 16" DH china. Guess i'm the only one here from Romania!:thumb:

RichHunt 03-02-2005 06:18 AM

Anyone ever used the Ferit series hi hats by bosphorous?

I think I have, but I can't be sure.

Double Bass Jim 03-02-2005 11:03 AM

I wish they stocked more of those types around here, were pretty much limited to the big 3.

spirit 03-02-2005 11:15 AM
I wish they stocked more of those types around here, were pretty much limited to the big 3.
Same here. Some Stagg, and about 3 Istanbul cymbals is about as far as anywhere round here strays.

-Obscurity- 03-02-2005 11:36 AM

They just started carrying Meinl at my local music store. They seem to be gaining popularity pretty quick. They had Stagg for a while, but never sold one of them. They eventually tried to liquidate them at 50% off the regular (not list) price, and still had not much luck. I tried a few out, and didn't like any of them. They don't carry Paiste around here though, I have to order anything I want from them online.

Double Bass Jim 03-02-2005 11:39 AM

Id like to try there soundcaster series.

-Obscurity- 03-02-2005 01:04 PM
Id like to try there soundcaster series.
I haven't had the chance to really bang away at them, but just from messing around with the displays, they seem to be the company's answer to Zildjian A's, they even have a Soundcaster custom line just like A customs. I have really liked the Byzance cymbals I tried out. They have definitely sparked my interest, something none other than the big 3 have been able to do so far.

Double Bass Jim 03-02-2005 05:15 PM

Yea thats probably what caught my attention. Im a huge fan of the reuglar A sound and the soundcasters do have a similar tone, the crash decay is what really makes them sound alike.

Kaptor306 03-02-2005 05:37 PM

meinl are definitely great cymbals, popularity-wise, they just are popular because the drummer for Lamb of God uses them.

SonorKen 03-02-2005 06:21 PM

http://www.kpam.com/voicemail-Dallascarwreck.mp3

Give that a listen, its hilarious.

Fuzzy 03-02-2005 06:39 PM

RichHunt 03-03-2005 01:44 AM

And the ever so obvious Thomas Lang..

Double Bass Jim 03-03-2005 09:22 AM

His cymbals had a strange sound on the creative control DVD.

-Obscurity- 03-03-2005 11:55 PM

He said that he designed most of them for a quick "white noise" effect that would emulate the sounds of sampled cymbals, and would decay quickly as not to clutter his playing style. That is basically the exact opposite of what I look for in a cymbal sound. There is an older scene of him jamming with a fusion band on that dvd, and he is using some nicer sounding Zildjians.

I just noticed my stars are gone! What's going on here?

Double Bass Jim 03-04-2005 09:47 AM

Rep system has been removed.
Rep system has been removed.
:amaze:

'bout time. Although, I still see my stars. Indeed, and the rest of the system, little clicky buttons and all. I can still rep/neg.

Der Meister 03-04-2005 03:14 PM

have you logged out since it was removed? maybe you have to logout for the changes to take effect. We have the search function people :amaze:

spirit 03-04-2005 03:15 PM
have you logged out since it was removed? maybe you have to logout for the changes to take effect. We have the search function people :amazed:
I got told to check my User CP, and sure enough, there's no rep section there. Perhaps the idea is to keep the system, but to not have them getting signed, to stop the needlees whoring of rep?

Der Meister 03-04-2005 03:16 PM

i can't rep people so that can't be it...

spirit 03-04-2005 03:22 PM
i can't rep people so that can't be it...
trysthedrummer 03-04-2005 03:24 PM

O crap I cant too.

spirit 03-04-2005 03:36 PM
i can't rep people so that can't be it...
Having looked at the site forum, it appears that those who still have stars have the ability to rep and neg. *grins manically*

Der Meister 03-04-2005 05:30 PM
