FatalEnergy 03-29-2005 04:21 AM

"We are all living in it, what is known as a PRAISE OF DEATH!!!!!" - Tom Araya

Probably my fav Slayer song

LarsAgi007 03-29-2005 05:41 AM

Does anyone know if Slayer are playing at Download this year????

DisposableHeroes 03-29-2005 07:23 AM

They are playing

SLATANIC-666 03-29-2005 11:42 AM

Yep, they're playing on the Sunday. I should be there hopefully.

On the subject of Hanneman's guitars, ESP had to recall all his signature series because he had what appeared to be 2 s's in the form of the nazi 'SS' running down the neck, or so I read so somewhere. I think you see him using one such guitar on Still Reigning or there's a picture in the booklet.

Mind(e)scape 03-29-2005 12:00 PM

Ah, Raining Blood is awesome, a classic. My top 10 Slayer songs would have to be:
(In no particular order)
1) Angel Of Death
2) War Ensemble
3) Raining Blood
4) Behind The Crooked Cross
5) Die By The Sword
6) Postmortem
7) Dittohead
8) Altar Of Sacrifice
9) Mandatory Suicide
10) South Of Heaven

I hope the new album will hark back to the Reign In Blood era, I'm not so keen on the GHUA material.

vashts80 03-29-2005 03:48 PM

I liked most of GHUA. :x

Whale and Wasp 03-29-2005 04:04 PM

whatduffhuck7 03-29-2005 09:12 PM

show no mercy is there best album.

with out a dought the most thrashy. solo's are great in show no mercy.

ok maybe not there best just becuase they came out with legend albums like reign in blood, and south of heaven, but still one of there best.

Nostalgia 03-29-2005 09:19 PM

Was anybody dissapointed my south of heaven, when I first heard Reign in blood it was awesome but when I heard south of heaven it was weird it was alot slower but I still kind of liked it, later I got to loving, IMO it doesn't come close to Reing In Blood though.

supra_speed 04-01-2005 02:02 AM

*chants* slayer slayer slayer slayer ********

xKaedonx 04-01-2005 11:17 AM

The only thing I really like about Slayer is their drummers that theyve had come through. They are some of the best to ever hold sticks, hand down. I never liked Toms vox or lyrics and Kerrys guitar.

xKaedonx 04-01-2005 01:33 PM
Why not?

NP:Opeth-Moonlapse Vertigo
Toms Vox are pretty ****ty and his lyrics are very trite. They are a very stereotypical metal lyrics with about zero depth to them. Kerry King is very one dimensional as a guitarist and hasnt shown me a lot in terms of depth in his playing,

ToRidTheDisease 04-01-2005 01:34 PM

Tom is a very talented singer. Kerry King isn't the one who makes most of the guitar parts either, it's Hanneman.

whatduffhuck7 04-01-2005 01:37 PM

i love toms voice. get a live dvd of slayer and you will like them. there GREAT live!

xKaedonx 04-01-2005 01:38 PM
Tom is a very talented singer. Kerry King isn't the one who makes most of the guitar parts either, it's Hanneman.
Tom can barely produce a note with his voice. Its barely in key. And if you are telling me Kerry King hasnt written anything significant for Slayer youre dead wrong. Nothing Slayer has ever done has shown a bit of depth. Its all the same.

vashts80 04-01-2005 02:31 PM

Maybe now Tom can't produce a note, but back on RiB and SoH he could.

ROFL, nothing Slayer has done has shown depth? Please explain that one.

Slayer realize why people like them, because they make very brutal music. Its hard, its fast, its uncompromising, and after 2 albums, it gets boring, at least to me. Megadeth, Metallica and even Anthrax have explored other sides of music but Slayer have stayed in the same box for their whole career and that, to me, is uninspiring.

FlyingPaul_83 04-01-2005 04:05 PM

so are you saying you don't like slayer?

because if you don't, then why are you in this thread?

MAthiAS 04-01-2005 05:07 PM

Slayer haven't stayed the same... fuck, Reign in Blood and South of Heaven are totally different.

they did a whole album on just punk covers. and listen to show no mercy, then listen to south of heaven. and tell me there isnt a difference.
Megadeth, Metallica and even Anthrax have explored other sides of music but Slayer have stayed in the same box for their whole career and that, to me, is uninspiring.
slayer has explored more than megadeth. and nobody would want slayer to go as far as metallica. there later albums arnt even listenable. (except garage inc)

heavy metal kid 04-01-2005 05:28 PM

Slayer is a awesome band that not everybody like, they haven't stay the same, but doesn't experiment to much with their music.

slayer rules.

SSSnake... 04-01-2005 06:11 PM

They have had their experimental periods (South of Heaven, Undisputed Attitude). But for the most part have been pretty uncompromising to their initial blueprint.

I have got reign in blood and think it is a very good album. Can some one recommend me another album for me to get?

'God Hates Us All' maybe? I love 'Seasons in the Abyss' too. Try one of those.

xKaedonx 04-01-2005 07:55 PM
They have had their experimental periods (South of Heaven, Undisputed Attitude). But for the most part have been pretty uncompromising to their initial blueprint.
Opeth, Tool, these are EXPERIMENTAL bands. Metallica and Megadeth actually changed their sound. Slayer never did and Slayer never will because, well I dunno, I have a few strong guesses but I dunno.

Oh and just because a metal band does an album of Punk covers doesnt mean they changed their style. When Metallica covered the Ramones, you could tell it was Tallica. Same with Attitude.

TheCrimsonKing 04-01-2005 08:08 PM

Screw you guys that dont like Slayer you should burn in hell!
Anyways metallica tried to experiment and for the most part look what happened...no one liked it too much. Slayer isnt going to make a freakin album with funky synth in the background and sound effects coming from all sides. They arent going to make an acoustic album. There is a reason for this....they are Slayer. They want to put out heavy music that stays fast and evil.
To say Slayer has no depth is false. Listen to Rain in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons.., and God Hates Us ALL. They are all Slayer and they sound similiar but at the same time have great songs that are all different. they do use somewhat similiar riffs though. Saying well all Slayer songs sound the same is kind of weird because they are in a way supposed to sound the same but somewhat different at the same time. IF you dont like Slayer dont post.
Now I also enjoy Tool, Opeth, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and many other bands that experiment with their music..actually I love many of them more than Slayer..BUT SLAYER DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LIKE TOOL OPETH IT ISNT THEIR STYLE TO EXPERIMENT UNLESS YOU WANT SLAYER TO SOUND COMPLETELY DIFFERENT..IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?

SSSnake... 04-01-2005 08:14 PM

I never said they were an experimental BAND, but that they had experimental PERIODS in their career. Get it right. One of Slayer's biggest attributes are that they play incredibly fast. So to say 'South of Heaven' - an album where they slowed down to the point of songs being able to be classed as doom - was not experimentation is absolutely ridiculous.

And as I clearly stated (which makes me wonder why you chose my statement as a quote) they've stuck to their blueprint very closely for the most part.

ThrashHead 04-01-2005 09:26 PM

No way.

Man.. you don't know what you're talking about. Look at undisputed attitude. That album went totally punk. And Divine Intervention.. totally different. But people have different opinons. I personally think Slayer is great.

Deth 04-01-2005 09:30 PM

I like Slayer but find themselves repeating themselves though. I think they have the ability to expand their music ability, but because they don't they get boring to me.

ThrashHead 04-01-2005 09:39 PM

I guess people seem to find them repetitive because they use chromatic scales with the fifth interval alot. Such as Rainning Blood, Dead Skin Mask, South of Heaven, and Disciple. But whatever.. they make kick-*** use of it and make awesome ****ing metal.

Deth 04-01-2005 09:50 PM

I agree, they have some great songs, but all my favorite bands are able to strech out and challenge themselves and their listeners, Slayer doesn't.

THEY DID A ALL PUNK ALBUM. THEY ARE USSUALLY THRASH.

that is trying something new. that is expermenting with there sound. god dam. i would personally like them to stay exacly the same as they are, just make new great thrash songs. but thats not gonna happen. god hates us all (there newest cd) is MUCH different than show no mercy.

RiotUpstart 04-01-2005 10:29 PM

Which Album is the album that slayer did punk? i might check that out.

Yes, that's completely true. SNM talked about the devil, demons and hell, while Undisputed Attitude talked about getting drunk and beating up moms.
Which Album is the album that slayer did punk? i might check that out.
Undisputed Attitude is they're punk album. If you like punk I guess I'd recomend it. But I don't like punk all that much so I found this album dissapointing.
