Flux of Pink Indians-Love Song 2:26

As i've been fairly ignorant of the anarcho genre i approached this with enthusiasm and a little apprehension.

It started off with quiet voices then unleashed a series of repeating drum beats and almost simultaneously the vocals begin. All good so far. The lyrics are good and the guitar work is tight. Then, after 30 seconds, the vocals get quiet and eerie with the guitar riff in time with the vocals, normal service resumes afterwards. The pattern is repeated until it slows down and a woman screeches, sort of like the shower scene in alfred hitchcock's Phsyco, and only the steady drum beats pierce the atmosphere. The vocals begin again, intergrating with the screaming.

Overall, i found the song interesting, different and quite intelligent.

Fugazi - Cashout

Song opens with a very short slide on a guitar, then just a simple drum beat, which is then joined by a decreasing guitar riff. For awhile, the song goes through a very melodic little riff, and then is joined by the vocals. Lyricly, the song is ok. It seems to be about being evicted from ones house. After going back to the decreasing riff, and then another verse, the song leads into a more distorted version of the main riff, over which is sung what might be the chorus, but I'm not sure of that. After this, it eventualy leads back into the main melodic riff for the final verse. It then leads into an altered version of the decreasing riff, and back into the distorted chorus (?). It then ends rather abruptly.
Well, over all, I liked the song. Rather melodic, more so then some Fugazi songs i've heard, but fitting with the more refined version of Minor Threat they sometimes resemble (Are?).
Overall, I give it an 8/10.

The Flamin' Grovies- Shake Some Action

Starts out with a mid-temo folky clean guitar line. Drums and bass come in at about the 5th mesure or so. The intro goes on with a little clean guitar noodling. The vocals cut in shortly after this. The singer sounds very 60s popish. He sings about how he wants to get to this chick but he's to scared to. The chorus continues in the same basic pattern and he talks about how he needs to shake some action. The guitar noodling intro repetes again and then the same verse-chorus pattern happens. No major changes in the song. Shortly after this there is a guitar solo. The guitar is clean and he uses a standard penatonic scale. Nothing special. It sounds like every other guitar solo did back then. After another verse-chorus pattern, the exact same guitar solo ends the song.

Meh... not a bad song but kind of boring. I would reccomend it to people who like the Velvet Underground or old the Who.

Operation Ivy - The Crowd

This songs starts of with a nice drum beat. Then guitar and bass come in at about 10 seconds with a little drum roll just before it. The real notciable thing about the start of this song is the bass. It's alot more clearer than the guitar. The singing is great. Almost like a half shouting from Jesse on the vearses then more melodical on the chorus. As with most Op. Ivy songs the chorus is very short compared to the vearses but repeated to make the chorus longer. This song is very well done. The lyrics alone make the song a good listen. All around good song. A regular band for my record player

WAITING ROOM - FUGAZI

This song starts with a pretty decent bass line, and the drums kick in with what sounds like some muted guitar. the singing and lyrics are different than what most people are probably used to, and the chorus offers an intense change from the mellow verses. as the song progresses, some background vocals come in and add a perfect touch to the song. all in all, a pretty good song

Muse - Time is Running Out

The song starts out with a very low, distorted 'bass', that is possibly a syth, along with a finger snapping beat, as opposed to drums. The vocals soon come in. These are soon followed by a light keyboard part, and a quiet drum beat. The guitar comes in as the chorus starts up, building up in a cresendo. By the 2nd verse, all the intraments have come in, and its no longer like the very mellow beginning. After the chorus, annd another slight cresendo, the song returns to the original setup, although the drums continue along with the snapping, and a different keyboard part is playing. When the chorus starts up again, the song crescendos again, and then ends with a electronic sounding string part, and a heavy bass, and then kind of dies.
Lyrically, I didn't get much meaning out of the song - although the guy has a great voice - but the lyrics in of themselves were pretty good.

Overall, its a really great song, very well arranged (as is most of the Muse i've listened to), so I give it a 9/10.

So, yes, I admit it that I haven't checked out X yet. This is the perfect time to and if Das Ubermensch suggests it then it's most likely good.

Anyway, it starts off with an awesome upbeat and very catchy tune that gets me immediately into the song. This beat continues for most the entire song. The vocals come in rather quick and are definitely awesome. He sings lighter but it's still really awesome. "Singles rule the world" that's a cool lyrics i pick up. So at about 2 minutes in there is a solo and then right back to the beat and the singing. Near the end they are repeating the same thing and the girl accompanies him and I really like how they did that. It ends with him singing "adult books" and his voice raises a pitch when he hits books. It ends rather well and I really, really liked this song.

I'll definitely be listening to this song all night.

The song starts off with a simple acoustic chord progression, and maybe 15 seconds in, the vocals come in, as well as a violin in the backround (or some sort of string instrament. The chords stay the same up until almost a minute in, when theres a small change, although the stum pattern stays pretty much the same. I assume this is the chorus.
Lyricly, the song seems to be about friendship - words being pretty clear, although the vocalist is a bit rough. The song end with the singer repeating "I'll never give up on you", and being joined by a second, female, vocalist.

I thought that the song was pretty good, a bit simple, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing, and in this case, it isn't. 8/10.

The Skids - Into The Valley (3:10)

This song starts off with a bass solo and it definitely got me into the song. This is really '77 sounding, pogo punk. Actually it's a bit lighter than pogo punk. It's still really good. So the vocals come in and they are very moderate, I like the voice I just have trouble understanding most of the lyrics. During the chorus the people chant lightly in the background which is pretty cool. At about 2:30 an awesome solo comes in which definitely gets me way back into the song. "La la la, la la la" he sings. The chanting and singing comes in again, I presume that's the chorus. It ends with him singer "into the valley" and some other lyrics I can't quite make out. But he sings other stuff in the same tune.
Very moderate song, definitely a good choice.

This song is a great song with a nice little bridge in the middle. The quality didn't sound very good, though. The song starts off with a drum countoff, and then leads into a slow verse. Then I believe there are a few more verses. Then comes the bridge when the song slows down a lot and there is just the drums for a few bars. Then the bass comes in playing a quiet line while the harmonica plays a lead. Guitar comes in a little after and they build up to a slow ending verse. It is very catchy, has great dynamics and switches tempo a lot. Lyrics are good too. I actually think the poor quality of the song makes it better, it makes it feel like you know the band, like one of your friends just recorded it in his basement. Very nice choice.

Whoa, I love this intro on the double bass. It's fucking sweet. Vocal style is great, I love the rockabilly signature reverb type thing. The part where they sing the "Into the darkness" has a cool low melody to it. This singing is standing out more than anything else. The lyrics are a bit hard to understand but I realize it's some elaboration on Poe's poem "Annabel Lee". I really like the solo/breakdown that comes at 2:49 it sounds really good. The whole fading out thing is pretty lame but the solo/breakdown turned into the outro so it's still got that cool feel. All in all a pretty damn good song, it'll definetly be on a playlist of mine in the near future.

Hot Water Music - Trusty Chords(2:49)

I've been a fan of Hot Water Music, but I have never heard this song. I have to say though, in my opinion this wasn't the best Hot Water Music song I've heard. The verse is pretty repetitive both in the way he sings the lyrics and the guitar part. The song starts with verse first, then chorus, then verse, then chorus twice, then the song is over. It's pretty short, but I still liked it.

OS101 - Spam in a Can

This song starts off with a slow drum bass and guitar intro, followed by horns not too long after. The song is pretty slow in the beginning, then after a few hi-hat hits, it speeds up and starts into the verse. The intrumentation in the verse is minimal. Fairly basic kind of pop-punk guitar and such. The lyrics seem too be praising someone for helping the singer. The chorus comes in and after a few lines the horns come in again and there is a fairly basic guitar solo. Another verse, and then chorus, accompanied again by a little bit of horns and a similar guitar riff to the first chorus (it's really not much of a solo). Then there is a bridge kind of thing with horns and some power chords. After that the song just kind of fades out with some neat sounding cymbal hits.

This isn't really my kind of ska to be honest. It's as much a pop-punk song as a ska song. The singer's voice is a little iritating, and the instrumentation is nothing noteworthy. Basic horn stuff and simple guitar and bass work. I can't say I would listen too this band very much. It is a decent song 5/10

Murder By Death - Killbot 2000

The song starts up immediatly with the full ensemble and vocals. Easy beat, light piano in the backround. Soon an electric cello come in (about 30 seconds or so). The mood of song seems to slow down soon after, although the beat itself stays the same. This is then followed by a new verse thats similar to the original, but sounds a bit... darker?

A little after 2 minutes in, there is a cello solo that lasts a bit, ending with a slight crecendo back into the main song. As the song starts to near the end, the vocals get a bit rough, and then the rest of the song slows down.

Well, I saw the band live a while back with Against Me! and thought them to be pretty good, which is why I chose this, but while the song was ok, I didn't really feel it lived up to what I rememered of them, so I'm only giving it a 6/10.

This song is sounds like an old sixties song. Its kind of boring, but that's just my opinion. It's not my style. They use a lot of background vocals, and I believe I heard a keyboard in there somewhere. It's pretty poppy. The solo in the middle uses a bunch of weird effects. There's nothing fancy with any of the lines or the rhythm. The lead guitar just follows the vocals, or vice versa. Again, I can't really say anything about this song, it's just not my style. Very old school

The song starts out with a neat little guitar riff, soon joined in by the drum, after which the guitars switch to the standard power chord fare.
When the vocals come in, I immediatly think 'whiny pop-punk' (or "Power Pop" as some mods call it). The song it self isn't that far over in the spectrum, but it still has some very popish melody, even if it is distorted by the heaviness of the guitar.
A few years ago, I might of been able to get into this song, but now I really just find it to be a to commen 'punk' cliche style. 4/10

Ok, this piece kicks off well, with a catchy guitar riff, complemented by a great bass riff, which, is quite distinct above the guitar and percussion.

The verse backing is nothing special, standard powerchords, and the singers voice is very cark and brooding, and the lyrics are hard to decipher in places. Apart from that, its not bad, just nothing extraordianry.

The chorus seems like one to get a crowd going, inciting uproars and drunked sing-alongs, particular catchy and propaganda-esque. Typical "style" that can be expected from a punk band of this era.

The song pretty much carries on in this way through out the song. My only point against, is that the solo seems out of place, as it has a more, country and western/rock and roll vibe to it.

I'd have to give this 6/10

I've heard this song before because it's probably the most popular song ever. It starts off with basic acoustic guitar and it's the same thing over and over. The singer has OK vocals and I don't really like this song now more than I did 5 years ago when it was popular. Near the end it stops and slows down a bit then it goes back into the same very repetitive and boring lyrics. This guy didn't really give me much of a recommendations list. Ok, this song starts off really weird. Theres like a minute of strange cymbals and scary noises. There is a pause after this and everything kicks in. The vocals cut in after a short guitar intro thingy. This guy sounds very angry .
After the same thing repeats a bunch of times there are a bunch of drum rolls and the bass does a little solo thing. The chord progression only changes a tiny bit. Then theres a little one note guitar solo that goes on for way too long. The same thing goes on for the rest of the fuc'king song...

Not bad music but way to repetative and boring.

The song starts out with a discoish beat, which is then joined in by the vocals. The vocals are kind of dark and echoish. The guitar eventualy becomes more pronounced, and at times the vocals are either multiple singers, or slight off sync double track. There is also a backround voice going "Oooo" once in a while, which I dont care for much. The main beat and riff never really change, so the song gets repetative.

It starts off with a very light guitar strum and clapping the background. This goes on for a good 30 seconds. Then the vocals start with the same stuff in the background. I like the vocals and the song so far very relaxed. Then another guitar and light drums come in. "There she comes again, she's my best friend's girl, but she used to be mine." Then it goes into a cool solo and back to the light guitars and light drumming. It's a very relaxed, calm song. It's very melodic and the singing is very good. It's basically the same thing musically with an occasional varied riff. There's also a bunch of solos that he breaks out into. Then at around 2:15 a cool little tech noise comes in that sounds really cool. Other than that it's pretty much the same throughout the whole song. Near the end he chants "my best friends girlfriend... used to be mine." I remember hearing about the Cars, they are a pretty popular group from what I recall. I never bothered to check them out. Anyway, I'm really happy with this song, I like it a lot. Haha, thanks again Hunter. Another good band, I'm going to try to find an album now.

The song starts with a guitar progression and a beat. Its joined by another guitar after it repeats the riff. Each time the original riff repeats, something new is added, until finally the original riff stops and the song returns to a more basic style, and then repeats with the building on theme. The vocals dont start up until a minute and a half in, and seem to be a sort of English version (heard something about the Thames) of the Woody Guthrie song, albeit a bit sarcastic. The vocalist sounds kind of distant, and isn't singing as much as talking really loud (but not in a 'rap' like manner) with a bit of an attempt at being melodic. The riffs at this point stay the same pretty much, and just repeat with the verses.
The song eventually just fades out.

Well, I really liked the first part, which was very instrumental, but when the vocalist came in, I didn't really care for his voice, which detracted a bit. Even so, it was still good overall, so I'm giving it a 7/10.

The Billy Nayer Show - Girl With the Vagina Made of Glass
The song starts with a plinky-plonky piano bit that sounds like a Mario tune before it lapses into some fairly ordinary ambient/indie music. This section is boring although it is enlivened by someone making funny "Waaaoooo" noises. At about 0:50 the vocals come in. Their sung/spoken style is a bit William Shatner and the guy sounds like Richard Cheese. Theior pretty nonsensical but also really funny with lines like "So perfect and pure and gynaecologically demure" and the music supports the the lyrics very well with it briefly intesifying when the vocals do so. The vocal section doesn't last long but it's awesome and it makes the song. The song briefly goes back into the ambient section before a little closing skit. I recommend this song to anyone with a sense of humour even if it is a bit short. 8/10

Mojo Nixon - Drunk-Divorced Floozie (The Ballad of Diana Spencer)

First off, I really enjoyed this song. It's just fun.

The song starts off with a short very country/blues sounding guitar riff. It starts in with a very bluesy guitar and some distant piano, it is a very country sounding song. The song tells a story of, you guessed it, a Drunk Divorced Floozie, who in the song marries rich and ends up dead in the back seat of a guys car unzipping his pants. The guitar work is very much basic blues kind of stuff. The singer has the perfect voice for this kind of song, it's a great voice. This song really appeals to me. I kind of grew up around similar music so this connects. I really enjoy the song as a whole and I do plan on listening to more Mojo. 8/10

Bear vs. Shark - Buses/No Buses

Song starts with a neat little distorted guitar intro, but is soon joined in by a heavy drum beat, and this is quickly followed by vocals, which are the somewhat standard yelling hardcore stuff. Although the guitar overall is melodic, this is somewhat countered by the distortion. A little over a minute in, there is a very soft bridge, but the song briefly returns to the heaviness, and then gets into a light, more easy going part. The vocalist isn't really singing for most of it, just making "di ddi di ddoo" like sounds. The lighter part lasts maybe a minute or so before returning to what I guess could be called the normal riff, which it continues with before a very abrupt stop.

I didn't really connect with the song. While I do like some hardcore, this one didn't really seem to be anything special... 5/10.

This song sounds like every other song like it I've ever heard. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's got a really catchy riff that's really familiar, little organ bits after each line like Stuck Inside A Mobile With, the incessant shaker in the background, the brief pause before the chorus where there's a shout of "Hey!" This song sounds like the soundtrack to every documentary montage about the 60s and/or summer ever made. The lyrics are decent, the vocals fit the song perfectly, this is a great pop song that's short enough not to outstay it's welcome although as the first time you hear it sounds like the millionth it doesn't bear repeat listenings. 7/10

This song is alright. It wasn't "hardcore", more just plain punk. It's hard to understand the lyrics, but the chorus was cool when it went "they wanna be punk, they wanna be cool". that was pretty catchy. there's a lot of backup vocals. its just powerchords through the whole song, though. at 1:11, there's a bridge where they switch it up a bit, but that's about it. I would say its a pretty ordinary band with a pretty ordinary sound.

From First To Last - Failure by Designer Jeans
The song begins with a few quick drum-beats before the intro kicks in which is catchy and kind of cool with almost a funky tinge to it. A bit poppy maybe, but good nonetheless. This continues for about 20 seconds or so with a couple of variations by which time you're nodding your head along to it. So far so good. Then the singer opens his mouth and it all turns to ****. I don't know whose idea it was to have someone with down-syndrome do the vocals but you think someone in the band might have said "Hang on a minute guys, this singer couldn't be whinier if he had a bottle of Pinot Grigio shoved up his arse. Maybe we should hire a proper vocalist." This guys voices sets me on edge. Every syllable is elongated, every word mangled, until only the pure essence of whininess remains. The music automatically turns to generic rubbish seemingly in protest. I seriously have no clue what this guy is saying. I think I caught the word 'feeling' but it might have been 'squealing' or 'Darjeeling' or any other similar sounding words. The music wisely returns to the original riff when the vocals stop but even that can't save this now. The mongoloid up-front has got the song in his whiny death-grip and won't let go until everyone grasps the deep emotional impact of what he is saying which is "EEEEEEEEE AAEEEEEE EEEEEE AOOOOEEEEEE!" apparently. "ALLALALAAL LLLLLAAAAA EEEEE UUUUHHH EEEE UUUUHHH!" Then suddenly another vocalist comes in, this one taking the "Retarded Sergeant Major with a really sticky toffee in his mouth approach." Equally incomprehensible, equally awful. This makes for some interesting and witty vocal interplay to end the song over the by now horrendously generic guitar blasts and drum-beats "DUH! MUHDUHDUUH MUHDUH!" "EEEEEE! EEEEAEEEEE!" MUHDUHDUHDUH!" Sheer lyrical genius. Watch out Bob Dylan!

World/Inferno Friendhip Society - Ich Errinere Mich An Weimar

I don't understand the children laughter at the beginning. I love hearing so many different instruments, souded like saxophone and kazoo and some other cool shit. His singing reminds me of some rockabilly band. Hearing the piano in the background is cool. I like the way it busts into the chorus. I wish I could tell what they guy was saying. The singing in the background adds alot to the song. The melody to this song is really catchy and unique. The guy with the deep voice adding whatever he's adding is kind of lame. The clarinet solo is so amazing. I was totally blown away to hear that. The piano solo sounds like some weird honky-tonk show. Did he just say "I'm a fag, I'm a jew!"? Weird. But that part where he sang alone was cool. It's weird that a band that sounds so weird and cool can be really defined as punk. I'd probably classify them as "Unclassifiable" I like the alternating shouts of Joy, it sounds really cool. The weird instrument at the end sounds awesome but I've got no idea what it is.

All in all, I think this is going one of my new favorite bands.

Devo - Mongoloid

The song starts out with a repetative bass riff, that cycles a few times, before the drums are added almost 30 seconds in, and soon followed by the guitar. A little synth part starts up after the guitars, and ceases as the vocals start. The vocals are somewhat echoed, and are supposed to be slightly computerized sounding I think. The riff changes for the chorus, but then goes back afterwards. Untill almost three minutes into the song, those are the only two riffs that have played, but finally a synth solo come in, and then the vocals sing one more verse and a bit of the chorus, but with the synth still playing, and then ends with the synth fading out.

Mongoloid can refer to an Asian, or someone with down syndrom, and judging by the lyrics, I think its the latter in the song, but beyond that, I didn't find much depth... (what do you expect from the guys who did Whip It?). Even so, the beat and riffs are really catchy, and the song is very easy to like, so I give it a 9/10 :thumb:

The Billy Nayer Show - Love Smiles (3:56)

Songs starts off with a pretty awesome bass intro. Then the drums come in and then the guitar. The guitar just strums a bit and then the vocals. The vocals sound tough, sort of similar to Abrasive Wheel's vocalist. The guitar goes back to strumming and the the drums keep the same roll-type they have since the beginning. The guitar occasionally goes into a different lick and he uses a lot of revert. They also seem very experimental with the guitar and at some points in the song it gets sort of annoying. There is a pretty long pause where he experiments then there's a type of breakdown and gets right back into it. It sort of "builds up." Then it just goes into purely instrumental and I really, really like the guitar that it has in the end. It's very awesome sounding. It really does turn this song around for the better. Then there's clapping at the end. All in all it's talented and I like the ending. I'm more interested in them than I like it. It's good stuff though.

This song starts with a fast drum beat, with plenty of feedback which seems to stay in the background the entire time. The drum beat is so repetitive, it gave me a headache. And you cant really understand the singer until all the other instruments stop in the end. The guitar is as repetitive as the drums, im not sure if there was more than one riff in the entire song. At the end of it, i was glad that the whole thing only lasted 2 minutes. I guess this song wasnt really my thing.

99 Red Balloons - 7 Seconds

Seriously, this is a good tune to begin with, and I thought the Goldfinger version was good, but this version is definetly my favorite of them all. This version starts with some weird noise. The riffs are the same but they sound a bit muddier. The thing that stands out the most is the singer doesn't sing it on the notes you'd expect. I think that's what makes this version stand out above the others. The sped up bit is also amazing but seems to slow down around the "war machine" line. They cut the german bit which is kinda dissapointing but the song is still awesome without it. The "oh oohs" get annoying after a bit but I can disregard it enough. The slow talked bit is just as good as always and the echo really adds alot to it. The bit of talking at the end is lame too.

If you've heard any punk song you know how this song goes, big chord, build-up on drums and and bass with some little guitar parts before the vocals come in with some more big chords then a little drum-roll, into the fast section with intermittent background vocals, then back to the previous section, then a different bit with more a more staccato rhythm then a brief solo then more vocals with a different guitar parts and more background vocals before finishing on "FUCK YOU!" Punk rock or what? This song was technically fine, but it was far too conventional. Every part sounded like a different punk song patched together. The definition of "nothing special".

Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan's Dream (5:03)

I hadn't heard Bob Dylan yet and that's not good. It starts off in a simple chord stroke acoustic. The vocals then come in almost immediately. "We're riding on a train going west." I really like the guitar and his voice. The same progression continues throughout most of the song. He carries his voice out a lot too which is very cool. I love folk so this sounds really awesome to me. Occasionally he plays a riff or two but basically the same chord progression carries throughout the entire song. Around 3 minutes in a harmonica comes in and plays sort of a country tune. It goes for a while and it sounds very awesome. "And as easy it was to tell black from white, it was all that easy to tell wrong from right." The song closes out with the harmonica and guitar stroke. Amazing song. I'm downloading one of his albums now.

Evil Robot Us' - Sea Saw (NG)
The song starts with cymbals building up the tension before the music and and vocals kick in sharply at the same time. The music is pretty typical folk-punk with a cool rolling rhythm. There's dual vocals alternating between some dude screaming and a girl singing softly. The contrast between the voices works well although the guys voice did sound a bit forced without the roughness of voice that sounds more natural in bands like Against Me! or Ghost Mice. The music is is really catchy and it's incessant pace continues until about 1:20 when there's a slower quiet section which provides some respite before going back into the chorus where they both sing at the same time then just as quickly as the music starts it stops again. This song is pretty cool. The music was good and although the guys vocals did grate a little it's a short enough song not to outstay it's welcome. If you like the genre you'll probably like this song.

However I didnt really enjoyEmo/Horror/ lyrics. Personally I dont enjoy them but besides that I thought the song was great. Spirit of the West - Home For a Rest

This song begins with some slow acoustic guitar and vocals which do a good job of leading into the song. The drums kick in at about 45 seconds in. Throughout the song there seems to be either a woodwind instrument or strange fiddle type thing, which are a cool touch that i think make the song authentically "celtic". The whole thing reminds me of a mellowed out Flogging Molly song. At about 3:31 there is an awesome solo by the woodwind instrument that goes until the song ends a minute later. Although my personal preference is Flogging Molly and the Real McKenzies, anyone who appreciates the celtic/irish/punk scene should definately check this one out.

I've heard little from the White Stripes, just thier main hits and it was 50/50 with most, some were good, and some were bad. This song starts off with an acoustic guitar, quickly joined with the guy's voice and drums. The music is really simple. I don't like the guy's voice much, but the general backing music is well done and very jumpy. The actual music doesn't change much, this seems like a really basic song. The song goes into a slower softer bridge. Then back into the chours. Overall it is kind of boring, but not too bad.

Three Hanks - I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive

Of the Williams country dynasty I'm only really familiar with Hank Williams Sr who I know died at 29 in 1953 so this song was quite strange hearing Hank Williams III singing with his long-dead grandfather. Musically this song is pretty standard country fare with an enjoyable mix of piano and guitar which complements the vocals well. What really makes this song is the contrast between the three different voices and how they work together sometimes on their own and sometimes in harmony. The lyrics are also pretty standard country-stuff. This song definitely won't convert anyone who dislikes country but I definitely enjoyed it. 7/10
