Pointless thread.

Fred's 'shredding' would win though.

iamtheking 12-04-2004 10:03 AM

My friend just showed me the fred durst video again and i couldn't believe my eyes...he was probably thinking of what a guitar god he was.

CreepingBlack 12-04-2004 10:59 AM

the thing that should not be.

the_iron_maiden 12-04-2004 11:07 AM

I watched it and asked myself "Was Fred trying to sound bad?"

enjoyincubus421 12-04-2004 09:56 PM

any solo by kurt cobain

Joe 12-04-2004 10:02 PM
any solo by kurt cobain
THANK YOU!!! why does everyone including magazines and websites think he's so freakin great?! he is a BAD guitarist!

the_iron_maiden 12-04-2004 10:07 PM

Megadeth - "Something I'm Not" Has to be mentioned! It's a good solo...but the riff from Rising Force by Malmsteen...... just doesn't fit!!! And I totally agree on the whole Kurt Cobain thing! Nirvana's music wasn't that bad but I ****ing hate them because they (and other bands at that time and in that genre) started the movement of ****ty *** solos! **** YOU NIRVANA!

ekajsk8er 12-04-2004 10:54 PM

its definately that new jimmy eat world song it totally sucks

PinkFloyd 12-04-2004 11:32 PM

"Where Are We Running" -Lenny Kravitz

Seafroggys 12-05-2004 12:20 AM

The little guitar stuff going on during the bridge section of Space Oddity. It dissapoints me how pathetic it is and how hard it is to hear, because the rest of the song is so **** cool.

ToolBox 12-05-2004 12:40 AM

Jimi Hendrix's Solo in All Along the Watch Tower
The Solo in Dream Theater's Endless Sacrifice
EVH's Solo in Eruptions.

All horrible solos. I'll take Marc Hoppus anyday!

(If you don't get I'm joking by now, die)

Oh, where can I see this Fred Durst "shredding" video?

CreepingBlack 12-05-2004 01:06 AM

Kerry King is a terrible lead player.
edit: most slayer solo's are uncreative and sloppy.

Scenes From A Memory 12-05-2004 01:15 AM

All Cobains solos are terrible, but they just can't compete with that Fred Durst video for sheer atrociousness. Sorry Kurt, but Fred Durst has outdone you at being a crap guitar player.

Jaded 12-05-2004 01:28 AM
THANK YOU!!! why does everyone including magazines and websites think he's so freakin great?! he is a BAD guitarist!
Guess what? He's inspired countless numbers of kids to play guitar, and his solos fit Nirvana perfectly. What makes a good guitar player? The ability to play arpeggios at 300 bpm? Anybody with decent dexterity can lock themselves in a room and practice for 10 hours a day and eventually play like Petrucci or Vai. I don't necessarily think he was an excellent guitarist, or even a good one, but he certainly wasn't BAD. He played grunge, for christs sake, and noisy, sloppy solos were just how Nirvana sounded.

Jaded 12-05-2004 01:29 AM

FRED DURST IS NOT A GUITAR PLAYER! OF COURSE HE SUCKS!
God at least he has the balls to go on stage and play like that.

mongfarmer 12-05-2004 05:38 AM

Its not balls he has, its just he loves himself so much he thinks because its "him" he can pull something like that off.

mongfarmer 12-05-2004 05:44 AM

I'd also like to say, 'Rolling stones - Sympathy for the devil' is probably near the top of my list for embarrassingly bad guitar solos.

Jaded 12-05-2004 04:30 PM
Its not balls he has, its just he loves himself so much he thinks because its "him" he can pull something like that off.
Do you know that for a fact? Playing bad when you know you are bad in front of thousands of people takes balls, my man.

Yes they fitted the music, but you can make techincal solos fit the music too. These guitarists don't lock themselves in a room for 10 hours a day you fool. They aim to improve technicality in their playing and not learn 4 chords and call themselves professionals. Also, stereotypically speaking, it would be people who listen to crap depressing music like Nirvana who would lock themselves in a room all day.

AndrewHarris 12-05-2004 05:03 PM
Slayer - Raining Blood

That solo is basically jerking off the whammy bar.

The song kicks *** though
incase no one else notices this

look at the lyrics booklet on your reign in blood cd, flip it to the page that has raining blood, look past all the words and at the end

what does it say

it doesnt say solo (hannenman/king)

it says NOISE (hannenman/king)

they say that because it isnt a solo.....its just noise and you're right, they basically are just jerking off the whammy bar

Jaded 12-05-2004 05:53 PM

You don't think Vai and Satch woodsheded for hours a day to be as technically advanced as they are now? You think it just came naturally? I never said that you couldn't have technical solos that fit, and I'm a big fan of Vai. Most people it seems don't like Cobain because he can't phisically play very well, and I was saying that any body can be a robot and play sweep picked pseudo-classical solos if they work hard enough.

PinkFloyd 12-05-2004 06:27 PM
the solo for smells like teen spirit sucks
its just the tune that he sings, arranged for guitar... that takes no skill watsoever
I'd like to see you come up with a melody .023x as good as that one, jackass. I don't understand why people say SLTS is so bad. So what if he just took the vocal melody? It's a ****ing good melody and it doesn't sound bad to the ears whatsoever.

Alco-ButzA 12-06-2004 08:23 AM

any solo from metallica's Reload with the exception of fuel and the unforgiven 2.....these are so bad they just crap on trying to make the songs longer than they need to be.

http://www.siamshade.org/washutempdir/videos/fredshred.wmv

that's the link for everyone still asking.

i think people are flaming guitar solos as being crap even though they are meant to be the way they are because they suit the music. simple doesn't mean ****, they're meant to be that way alot of the time. i think the really crap guitar solos are the ones that don't fit in and ruin a song (or are by some clueless wanker such as durst attempting to play guitar) :)

iamtheking 12-06-2004 09:50 AM

 I always laugh out loud when i see that fredshred vid

I would say that is the point... if they WORK hard enough they can get good. Does that mean that anyone who DOESN'T work hard gets a pass cuz anyone who "works hard enough" can become great? Do you realize how dumb that sounds?

Jaded 12-06-2004 05:27 PM

You are confusing yourself. What "pass" do you speak of?
Not good, but technically advanced. People in here seem to love fast, technical stuff, but anyone can be fast if they work at it. The guitar players who really matter are the ones that write great melodys and songs.

fuzzy` 12-06-2004 07:46 PM

this one time my freind droped his guitar and it made some wierd noise
that wasnt really a solo but it sucked

Yeah, and writing melodies and songs doesn't take practice? I'd say it does. But its easy to write crappy three chord songs with five note solos. Anyone can write songs like SLTS. ANYONE.

Being able to shred is NOT easy; it takes tons of hard work and practice. Not "anyone" can just learn how to shred. It takes years of work and practice. ANYONE can pick up a guitar, think of a melody, and write words to it. It won't necassarily be GOOD, but anyone can do it.

However, I DO know what you mean. Some people do get so caught up in speed that they forget the song.

What?

UntoldProphecy 12-06-2004 07:57 PM

Poisons guitarist CC-Dewille or somethings HORRIBLE solo in every Rose in Poisons live album. Seriously it has no amount of music in it at all, it sounds like a teenager picking his first random notes.

Agreed, Kerry King should never solo.

Alco-ButzA 12-06-2004 10:28 PM

hahaha that fred durst thing was so ****ehouse.....jesus i could make a lacky band on a ruler sound a **** load better than that.

harps2cool 12-06-2004 10:36 PM

lol

you think those are bad? This is a band i used to be in, and the guitarist is probably the world's worst. He only did about 3 solos because he considered solos to sound "too eighties". Obviously he doesnt know a whole lot about guitar then lol. The solos he did were funny enough to kill somebody, and ear piercing too ha.

Here's a funny one, thats also him singing, and me (sadly) on drums. enjoy!

www.localretard.com/loser.mp3 its just a little bit past the halfway mark in the song....listen to the whole thing for some more laughs haha.

SUGAAAAA 12-07-2004 12:57 AM

The solo in "Heart Shaped Box". It just throws the whole song off. Doesn't fit in at all.

The song sucked. Maybe he just doesn't like solos.

RaTm_FaN 12-07-2004 05:56 PM

could someone please tell me where fred durst did this solo? i would really like to dl it!

Kwash2 12-07-2004 06:13 PM

RaTm FaN, scroll up the fucking page, it's right there.

I can't believe that Splashfreak and Jaded are both arguing over the definition of being good.

You're both fighting a losing battle boys.
