Yeah I agree. I shouldn't of posted this it's a Cliche'. lol
But..in the turn of events, Black Sabbath did start metal. I can't argue that. I am talking OLD Black Sabbath...They started the Twin lead thing and the famous E, D, C chord progression. Metallica copied a lot of their styles and a lot of other songs they didn't even write. I despise Metallica, In fact I LOATHE them. I should'nt capitalize the "m" in metallica anymore cause that would give that name respect...I would want that now... "Granted you a hollow stare, another soul within the divine herd..." -Opeth(Black Rose Immortal)
Kudos to you for noticing opeth, they are truly an amazing band. With that said, im not all to happy with your bashing of possible the greatest metal band in history, Metalllica. While Black Sabbath founded heavy metal, Metallica defined it, and that is no doubt. While their past couple of albums have been unsatisfactory, they are still teh defintive force they have always been. I was fortunate to see them live at floor level, and i must say, after 24 years, they can still deliver a force of metal that is powerful. So, sorry Fylnn, but withour Mtallica, Opeth would not be around today |
Ahhh, Soon enough...I know that if I do it, someone else would do it before hand.
Okay...new question: What do you think Opeth will look for with this new album? Will they continue the ****ation trend or will they go back to more metal...or both :) What do you all think? Man, I suck at keeping this going, where the **** is Flynn? She's better at this ;)
They've said ****ation was just an experiment. The metal is coming. :D Opeth's forum is pretty good to go to every now and then. Mikael posts on it once in a while. |
:D
Same here. Since they Hail from Sweden, It's hard to find out about them. I live in Iowa so you can just about immagine lol. just think of all the bands out there that aren't signed...
Me too, whereabouts in iowa? And i think that blackwater is my favorite album of all time, I think ive played along to The Leper Affinity at least 2 hunder times now. |
Also, somebody who never gets enough attention is the bassist, mendez. Listen to the song blackwater park, his playing (especially the slap section) is phenomonal.
|
Someone want to write Blackwater Park's review? It's the only Opeth album left to review :D Good job to those who wrote reviews :thumb:
That'd be a difficult review...it'd be so hard to write a review worthy of that album. I mean...how do you put into words how landmark of an album that is? "Uuhh....it rocks! Yeah..." |
That'd be a difficult review...it'd be so hard to write a review worthy of that album. I mean...how do you put into words how landmark of an album that is?
"Uuhh....it rocks! Yeah..."
Haha, you are gushing...I can tell you just found Opeth, I think that's everyone's reaction! :) |
Supposedly Opeth's new album is gunna be a lot more black metal orientated than their last couple of masterpieces.
Let's hope. |

Yeah, a few weeks ago. :) |
Morningrise> Blackwater Park
I think BWP could be better. Harvest isn't that great. In fact, I don't really like it at all. Morningrise, however... :thumb: |
Supposedly Opeth's new album is gunna be a lot more black metal orientated than their last couple of masterpieces.
Let's hope.
That would be interesting considering Opeth has never played a black metal riff in their lives |
My Arms, Your Hearse is my favourite opeth album.
'April Ethereal', the mighty 'When' and of course the classic and ultimate opeth track 'Demon of the Fall'. For me, this album contains all the classic elements that make opeth's sound so unique and i find myself playing it more than any other Opeth cd, even more than Morningrise. |
Eh...parts of the Leper Affinity are Blackish. I hope that they don't go....TOO black, I like them for what they are.
|

That's a stretch man haha. I dont see them actually playing black metal, i mean even if you go to their webpage and look at the bands they listen to, black metal just isn't in their repitoire |
Avatar, lost paradise
Are you a fan of the band Paradise Lost? |
I got the info about Opeth intergrating black metal into their sounds from 'the making of deliverance and ****ation' on the Lamentations dvd.
On this Akerfelt clearly states that they have been listening to a lot more black metal in preparation for their new album. They wouldn't listen to more black metal if they were going to do a melodic death metal album. |
Are you a fan of the band Paradise Lost?
Yes, i am a huge fan of Paradise Lost, hence my avatar of Nick Holmes. |

but they did mention that they were incorporating black metal, and who knows maybe they have been listening to black metal, just like someone mentioned earlier. Personally I'd rather have their signature sound on their next album, and more of a technical sound as well, but opeth is opeth and I personally enjoy all their stuff. |

That's cool...that's what I thought. They're a pretty cool band...I'm a big fan of the "Draconian Times" album. Hardly get any attention here on the forums, though, which was why I was surprised. |
i hate opeth
 they suck and any one who likes them is a fag
Whoa. That was to the point...And just tell me, Oh great one, Why we are Fags for liking Opeth? You must certainly have a reason. I am guessing you listen to Korn, Diana Ross, Grand Funk Railroad, Dave Mathews Band, Ashlee Simpson and KISS. I am also guessing you are around 14 years old and an only child with no father forcing your inner turmoyl to thrive on dressing up in Mommies clothes. I am guessing you like to collect Barbie Dolls. If you think Opeth sucks, has no talent or is "Gay" then...you fit into this category. The cold season drifts over the land. They huddle in the brown corners. Some would settle for less. The castles were all empty, asleep. Long awaiting their king. Beckoning round the bend. Amidst the forest one would hear that I had been there. That's the only word I can describe it as. |
^ Err no,the follow up album will be the same death vs. melodic that opeth have always done. Mikael Akerfeldt was quizzed on the radio about a possible BM album by Andrew Hoag last time they were in Australia.
Mikeal stated that at the time of making the documentry he was in the process of writing one of the heaviest songs for the new album, and that he was considering doing a full concept BM album then. He has since decided to scrap that idea and continue to make music for opeth generally the way that it has always been. I cant wait :D |
Explain always been? Morningrise always been? Still Life Always been? or just plain Opeth always been, as in playing what they feel?
|
The albums are always going to be completely different to each other (ie. BWP vs. morningrise) but the same element of Melodic/death metal will be there. I wouldnt want them to sound exactly like they did still life etc.
It will not be a BM album |
What is your Favourite Opeth Lp and Why? How has it Changed your life? What is the most Dramatic Opeth Song IYO?{In Your Opinion} And finally what do you think their new LP should sound like?
I lament this heritage Cannot bid farewell The pale face...you went as far as you could And from that moment I witnessed your beauty, fealt your death Mine is yours, mine is yours In the wake of dawn The mist of morning linger before it leaves Opeth - Nectar |
*sigh* I don't know if I can answer that, being that I've only heard BWP and ****ation. "The Funeral Portrait" really does it for me, though.
|
I vote we "Official" this thread.
I vote we "Official" this thread.
I'll second that. |
I want to buy every Opeth cd, all in one go. I'm gonna try to find them at a used cd store nearby soon. I'm dying only having Deliverance :upset:
|
You're missin out man...I mean Deliverance isn't a bad cd, but it doesn't do Opeth justice. The other albums just blow it away.
|

Yeah, I get the feeling it's their worst one. I've heard other Opeth songs though, and I used to own ****ation (it got confiscated by an English teacher though). Blackwater Park is my favorite song ever. |

I would like to know how they came up for the concept for the song To Bid You Farewell. The bass is really eerie in that song. I mean some strange Notes along with the guitars. Crazy song. Would have to be my Fav Opeth song aside from Black Rose Immortal. |
You're missin out man...I mean Deliverance isn't a bad cd, but it doesn't do Opeth justice. The other albums just blow it away.
Yeah. Agreed...I do like Deliverance but it isn't up to their standards IMO. The Masters Apprentices is my Favourite tune from that LP. I have recently been listening to a lot of the "hearse", trying to play the intro to the song When...It's ****ing impossible. I can play all sorts of stuff but the intro is quite hard to play and get it to sound right. Some strange chord structures are involved. I can pretty much play all of Karma...Jazz chords start it out, sounds badass! :thumb: |
My favorite Opeth CD is ****ation...wierd, huh? Although Morningrise is close.
|
My Arms, Your Hearse... my favorite album from Opeth. Great stuff.
|
is anyones least fave album Still Life..or is it me..dont get me wrong i have all their albums..but i dunno..its still a good album..maybe i havent listened to it enough for it to grow on me..
Orchids my fave followed by Morningrise :thumb: |
^^^^^
My least favorite is My Arms...I love the first 2 songs but I don't really like the others. But, I haven't listened to My Arms in a little bit, I forget sometimes. But to answer Flynn's question...my favorite is still Blackwater Park. I remember just listening to the first 4 songs off of it (Leper Affinity, Bleak, Harvest, Drapery Falls) with my jaw on the floor and then...holy ****, the title track. When ever Mike sings "Mod round the dead"...I ****ing lose it! With the bass slapping in the backround...I think its almost an orgasm when I hear it ;) But, the best song, to me is still Drapery Falls. Just beautifully haunting and the lyrics are amazing. The guitar in the front...the only word I can describe it is epic, just amazing...Then when it slows down, how bad *** is that "Spirling to the ground below, like autumn leaves left in the wake to fade away. Waking up to your sound again and lapse into the ways of misery" <-----Just amazing BTW, Flynn, I answered your question about why Mike doesn't like The Night and the Silent Water a few pages back...You're welcome ;) |
For me, Everytime I listen to Opeth, I end up righting a new guitar riff. Its just like something goes off in my head. I **** you not.

Not surprising...when I listen to Opeth, tons of lyrics pop into my head...Opeth just inspires you. Often I think "Man, I like that word...I need to use that in a song" or something like that...Another reason to love Opeth |

Orchids my fave followed by Morningrise :thumb:
Still Life does grow on you. It used to be my least listened to Opeth LP. It's been in my CD player in my Truck for 2 months straight now. Yes, it does grow on you. Still Life IMO is their most intricate Lp they have recorded. I can't explain why in words. The guitar work is strange. I mean they recorded chords I don't think anyone even knew about  but seriously though...Very well put together LP. Orchid and Morningrise are badass too. No other cd's I own can even come CLOSE to their complexity. Still Life took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting it to sound like that and thats what makes it grow on ya. It totally sounds nothing like The "Hearse" and a long shot from Orchid/Morningrise. Like vines it grows on you. I shant resist. In tears for all of eternity.
