dragonforce are doing a headline tour around the uk end of this year :thumb:

ktululu 07-23-2004 03:32 PM

I'm going to see Dragon Force in Exeter in October. They are playing at a tiny club called The Cavern so I might get to meet some of them. It's the first time a band that talented have ever played anywhere near me :thumb:
Another Magic Kingdom fan. Sweet.
Yerp i love Magic Kingdom! i only found out about them like a week ago and they are currently my favourite band based on Metallic Tragedy. is there first album any good? I might order that with Metallic Tragedy off Amazon. What's your favourite song of theirs, just out of interest?

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-24-2004 12:45 AM

anyone into Human Fortress yet? kind of dark for power metal, but very unique. ive brought them up a few times before with a limited response hehe. also, Pagen's mind...not to much being said about them either. just something new to talk about! haha

RideTheSpiral 07-30-2004 04:47 AM

Frail where do you order your CD's online? I need somewhere to order from. I don't have a credit card either. :(

Brew 07-30-2004 07:52 AM

I'm going to see Dragonforce in October at the Bierkeller in Bristol seeing as I mised out on seeing them when they toured with W.A.S.P a few weeks ago.

Also, I read somewhere the Glen Hughes (ex-Black Sabbath) sings for Rata Blanca? Has he always sung for them or is it something new?

Bartender 07-31-2004 03:21 PM

Has anyone heard of the David Shankle Group? I've only heard one song (Ashes to Ashes) and would like to know if they're worth checking out further.

From that song, they're not power metal in a Sonata Arctica/Stratovarius style, but reminded me more of Iron Maiden (with a less impressive vocalist and some keyboards). Seemed like the place to ask.

RideTheSpiral 07-31-2004 08:07 PM

I've never heard of them.

sensitiveorgan00 07-31-2004 08:39 PM

I've been listening to some Angra lately. Hmm...I don't know if I really like them. They're alright I guess.

I need to download some of Frail's suggestions soon.

RideTheSpiral 07-31-2004 08:43 PM

I don't mind Angra. I have Fireworks and it's a good album.

Hitroshimite 07-31-2004 08:53 PM

I've never heard their first album, nor been able to find it online (Amazon doesn't have it). The same goes with the guitarist's side project (Iron Mask, I think it's called).

My favorite song? Hard to say. The title track is really nice, along with Child of the Nile. But my favorite is probably Flying Pyramids.

I have put them on my 'to look into list'... Finally. :p

Have you done any probing at all into Grave Digger?

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-01-2004 01:27 PM

haha, no not yet...im busy saving for my trip to England in two weeks so ive been limiting myself to only like 3 cds a week as opposed to 6 or so lol. Plus, ive been on an obsessive classic rock binge for awhile, when that fades (every binge does!) than ill be digging into some of it.

PS: ill be seeing Mr.Tony Iommi front row in T-minue 12 days :thmb: not to forget Halford, Slayer, and Dimmu :)

Bartender 08-01-2004 01:37 PM
I've never heard of them.
David Shankle used to be in Manowar, if that helps.

Frail - when are you coming to England? (Enjoy that show, looks good).

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-02-2004 01:34 AM

i will be in England (London area im staying in, but we will be going all over...Scotland as well) August 14-22 :) and i will be enjoing the show two days before i leave!

sensitiveorgan00 08-02-2004 10:51 AM

I checked out some Human Fortress clips on their site, it didn't sound really dark. But they were just small samples. I'm about to listen to Pagan's Mind on Limp-music.de after this Angra song is done.

NP: Angra - "Unholy Wars"

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-02-2004 01:47 PM

i like Pagen's Mind more than i do Human Fortress, its not that they sound dark...just not as chipper as most power metal bands.

sensitiveorgan00 08-02-2004 08:15 PM

I listened to teh Pagan's Mind samples on Limp-music.de, it was alright. Some cool stuff, but I think some of teh vox were weak. Man, I'm listening to Angra again.
Frail, do you have Soulseek?

NP: Angra - "Z.I.T.O"

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-02-2004 10:14 PM

no soulseek :( but i do like some Angra, i still need to pick up another album of theirs one of these days.

JMetallica 08-03-2004 01:38 AM

Angra - *shudders*

After listening to Angra I feel it necissary to to put on a pink tutu and do a little ballet dance. Yeah, I don't really enjoy them at all, although they are more manly that Skylark, (if only JUST) who i think must have the smallest testicles in metal. (even 'small testicles' is pretty **** generous).

Alright, speaking of women in metal :p, who do you all think are the biggest puffs running around in power metal nowdays. I think it is skylark: Power metal from Italy (go figure).

Yeah, awesome.

RideTheSpiral 08-03-2004 02:12 AM

Timo Kotipelto can pull of some pretty feminine poses.

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-03-2004 02:13 AM

Timo...all admit, hes a preety good looking guy haha. He can look preety femanine from the footage ive seen but then again it works well for the band. hehe

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-03-2004 03:22 AM

by they way...anyone like Symphforce?

Lefty 08-03-2004 04:03 AM

Hammerfall has allways seemed kinda gay. Personally, I can't strand that band.

Turalain 08-03-2004 04:10 AM

this is turning into the which bands are gay forum... while im here

Alter Bridge

...And none of them are Power Metal. Good job. :thumb:

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-07-2004 03:01 AM

whats everyones opinions on:

Primal Fear
Symphforce
Firewind

Bartender 08-07-2004 05:38 AM

I like what I've heard of Primal Fear (and they're playing a mini-festival here in England in September), but that's not much. Haven't heard the other two.

DimebagDarrell 08-07-2004 05:45 AM

Primal Fear sound alright, i think they might be playing bloodstock but im not 100% sure

Bartender 08-07-2004 05:50 AM

I'm pretty sure they're one of the three "well-known" bands, along with Sonata Arctica and Children of Bodom.

DimebagDarrell 08-07-2004 06:05 AM
I'm pretty sure they're one of the three "well-known" bands, along with Sonata Arctica and Children of Bodom.
yeh there defiantly playing bloodstock :thumb: so are panic cell which i was abit supried about.

Brew 08-07-2004 10:22 AM

I checked out some Human Fortress the other day, its quite good - a bit different to the rest...a bit darker like what was said earlier in the thread.

I wish I was going to Bloodstock, my dad works with the singer of Fourwaykill

I got COB's cd 'Something Wild' the other day, its not amazing but I still like it.

FrailandBedazzled1979 08-07-2004 01:41 PM

^^^

something wild is more of a death metal sounding album, easily the worst of their 4...not that i dislike it, but it dosent show off their sound as well as the other three do.

and yeah, Primal Fear are preety cool....a Hammerfall type metal band with less chanting lol.

Hitroshimite 08-07-2004 07:11 PM

By the power of the Gods, I bump this thread!

*bump*

Anyways, I don't know if I'd consider the power metal, but I'm seeing Nightwish on the 16th. \m/ \m/(Heh, sorry, I just had to brag :) )

Anyways, I've been on a bit of a Sonata Artica kick recently, but I don't have any of there albums. Which one would you folks say is there best?

JMetallica 08-08-2004 04:45 AM

I haven't heard to much of Primal Fear (only their first and last), but from what i have, i have some really mixed feelings. I HATE Schepper's voice. He is NOT Halford, and his works with Gamma Ray make those albums unlistenable for me. (Thank god he was given the boot).

Ok. That out of the way, the music sounds like some really generic german speed/power. But they are NOT Judas Priest. On the other hand, it's german speed/power, and nobody can hate that. :D. Yeah, Pretty much second rate generic stuff, in my opinion. Lets all listen to the two aforementioned bands instead.

NP: W.A.S.P. - King Of Sodom And Gomorrah (Or listen to WASP. Can'
t go wrong with wasp)

I favour Ecliptica.

sensitiveorgan00 08-08-2004 11:23 AM

I'm going to make a power metal mix cd soon, as I don't have one. Can you guys list some good power metal songs I should add? Thanks.

NP: Angra - "Unholy Wars" :D Oh man, I'm not suppose to like Angra, but ****, their so catchy/

DimebagDarrell 08-08-2004 11:48 AM

i do agree about Schepper's voice, he really does try and sing like Halford and cant compete. The music is preety cool, but they are defiently a medium level group at best :)

Lucky!!! write a review of the show in here for us all! id love to see them live!!

Sonata Artica...id have to go with "silence" is my favourite of theirs. its more straitforward and overall musically impressive than "wintersheart guild" and "eleptica", which i still adore the other two albums as well :)
