Castles Made Of Sand - Jimi Hendrix

the_midnight_rambler 11-07-2005 02:09 AM

But that all depends on what has the saddest feeling, or what has the most depressing lyrics, because sometimes you find that its not always the same

Dry Your Eyes Mate- The Streets

theredwonder 11-07-2005 10:23 AM

Gravenhurst - Damage

I heard this song recently and thought the lyrics and riff were both exceptionally moving. Combined with Nick Talbot's vocals i find it to be quite a sad piece.

Happymeal 11-07-2005 04:39 PM

^ I keep seeing that name but never got around to listening to them. Are they a singer/songwriter type of band?

theredwonder 11-08-2005 06:06 AM

Been compared to Elliott Smith and the such like. I'd suggest picking up Flashlight Seasons since it's definitely worth a few listens.

twistinside 11-08-2005 07:14 AM

elliott smith - pitseleh
cat power - good woman
deathcab - a lack of colour, tiny vessels
explosions in the sky - the only moment we were alone
my bloody valentine - sometimes
pavement - here
pulp - bad cover version, trees
red house painters - all mixed up, have you forgotten
the shins - new slang (possibly my favourite sad song ever)
the smiths - i know it's over
sonic youth - sunday
wilco - i am trying to break your heart, ashes of american flags

YDload 11-08-2005 03:25 PM

HUM- Apollo

It's about an astronaut whose wife/gf doesn't like him leaving for space all the time. And I think he dies out there too. Very quiet and subdued compared to the rest of the album, which makes for a powerful contrast of moods.

I think that's one of their happiest songs. :-/
Any song - Radiohead
Ehh, their songs may not necessarily be happy, but they sure as hell aren't all sad songs.

lilsolsman 11-10-2005 11:57 AM
Ehh, their songs may not necessarily be happy, but they sure as hell aren't all sad songs.
I agree, songs like The Bends and Just don't have a sad feel about them at all. They aren't even a little depressing.

Wanker 11-10-2005 12:08 PM
I agree, songs like The Bends and Just don't have a sad feel about them at all. They aren't even a little depressing.
For a song to be truely sad, the lyrics and music have to be depressing.

Electioneering, Go To Sleep and Optimistic... I mean, come on.

Syncratic 11-10-2005 12:24 PM

The Mars Volta-Miranda, This Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore.

I don't care if the four minutes of ambience before it ticks you off, listen to it.

I agree.

JonM 11-12-2005 05:23 PM

I actually think The Streets' "Dry Your Eyes" is a really sad song, mostly because you don't expect him to be able to pull it off. Radiohead's "Morning Bell" (the Kid A one) is probably the saddest song in my collection.

Sven311 11-12-2005 07:57 PM

311 - Eons

RollerQueen 11-12-2005 09:27 PM

"Dry Your Eyes" is pretty darn sad. I'll agree.

I was listening to Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks today, and it's pretty down in some spots, like "If You See Her, Say Hello."

bacchusy 11-14-2005 03:40 AM

lucky is radioheads saddest song, i think
