Heh, this is pretty much what I'm hoping to be doing for the next few years, though in Mt Isa. If I get the apprenticeship I'm after, which it's starting to seem I might (just got asked to do a medical, so next stage is to hopefully get an offer), I'll be making as much $$ there as a second year apprentice as a fully qualified tradesman elsewhere.

it's a competetive field, esp. if you want to get into driving those trucks around. $100,000 a year is nothing to scoff at.

having a trade is a good idea as well
