You're in the extreme minority in that opinion. El Cielo is their creative peak thusfar.
 I wasn't aware most people felt this way??

I just enjoyed the concept of Leitmotif so much more. Also, El Cielo is too laid back, whereas Leitmotif is more tense and dark (a thing that I tend to appreciate more). Also, Gavin sang much better back then. Now he sounds like a fruity little chubby guy, instead of just looking like it.:p

I know what you mean, but El Cielo is just such a magnum opus. Leitmotif had an edge over it in terms of energy, but I just see El Cielo as being a far more...I dunno, masterful and original piece of work. I mean, nothing else sounds like it. Leitmotif is a masterpiece in its own way, whereas El Cielo is just a timeless classic.

I have that whole concert video, by the way. It's amazing. They play a kickass version of Running Through Propellars. I'ts interesting because the bridge section of Convelescence was taken from that early version of that that song. Anyway, I agree that there is a certain charm to that era.

EDIT: I also think the concept to El Cielo is far more intruging. The whole sleep paralysis thing makes the album really dreamy and just damn good. I'm really into that sort of subconcious thing, though, so that's just me. But I also like that it's more artistic in nature, but again that's just me.

eh...maybe it's just me, but a lot of things that are labelled "artistic" really translate to boring to me. Mars Volta and Tool and such just don't work with me at all. On a sidenote though, how big of a file is that concert...?

The link isn't working. :(

The video is about 350 MB.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-09-2006 01:25 AM

Takk is a good starter album by Sigur Ros. I never got into () to be honest, but Takk is just very good.

Re dredg: How much do you think TMV had an influence on El Cielo? I read several times that they took huge cues from TMV on CWA, but I hear it more on El Cielo...The Canyon Behind Her is a big nod to them, namely the part with the heavily enveloped guitars and raucus drumming. (3:18-3:40ish)

Wrong thread much? Yeah. sorry, heh..

You can get it there, along with some other really great El Cielo era concerts. :)

If that doesn't work out for some reason, I'll upload it for you or send it over AIM. Just let me know.

Txus 09-09-2006 10:33 AM

Hey, Kage. Did you received the album?

Kage 09-09-2006 10:45 AM

Yep, I got it and the link is working now. Thanks.

Kage 09-09-2006 02:29 PM

Sure thing.

Nepenthe 09-09-2006 02:32 PM

So nobody in here knows a good deal about 65 Days Of Static? I have their entire discography, but I'm looking for one song of theirs I heard years ago that I can't find now. It starts out with some post apocalyptic sounding announcement, something about 2112 (I barely remember it, it has been so long), before going into acoustic guitars, and then into electrics and drums for the climax. This sound familiar to anyone (other than like, 50% of all post rock songs in existence haha)?

Statutory Ape 09-09-2006 03:30 PM

Anyone ever heard of Red Sparowes? They're a groovy band. They're all instumental. They have members from Halifax Peir, Neurosis, and Isis.

Daven 09-09-2006 03:32 PM

I love Red Sparowes, they're quite known in the forum. I got their new album, i dont remember how's it called but i shall hear it in a moment.

Statutory Ape 09-09-2006 03:35 PM

Eh, I didn't feel like reading through everything. At the soundless dawn?

Txus 09-09-2006 03:37 PM

I have both of their albums, their new one is the best thing they've done.

Daven 09-09-2006 03:38 PM

The newer one. It's not ATSD.

Txus 09-09-2006 03:40 PM

The new one is called Every Red Heart Shines Towards the Sun.

Kage 09-09-2006 04:04 PM

Based on the one song that's been officially released, it's going to be amazing. Do you know when it comes out?

Txus 09-09-2006 04:06 PM

I have no idea, it's in September though.

Statutory Ape 09-10-2006 02:58 PM

I actually had no idea they had a new album out. I better check it out. Is it anything like ATSD? Is there a lot of the same kind of guitar used?

Daven 09-10-2006 03:36 PM

It's somewhat like ATSD.
