I just hope they dont try so hard to be emo like their last album. Thats why it sucked.
I really doubt they "tried" to be emo on sing the sorrow and i know that sing the sorrow wasn't emo at all. I'm hoping that the knew album will much more like black sails in the sunset or the all hallows ep..
I love AFI, I usually see them disscused in Pop-Punk though. Good Good Band, love all of their albums.
AFI are not pop-punk

El_Shiznit 06-28-2005 11:05 AM

Although I don't like Sing The Sorrow the best, I sure as hell hope they do not go back to their old style. For one, that means the band is really trying to regain old fans even if it means sacrificing what they really want to play. Another reason is because Sing The Sorrow was a d'amn good album despite you little punk rawkers' opinions. They play that style so good.

I think you guys will be disappointed by the next album if you want it to be like Black Sails.

Glass_Hero 06-28-2005 11:53 AM

My grilfriend has never liked punk but it think i might have got her into listening to AFI on a regular basis now. This is one of those bands that can reach fans of different genres.
I heard thay are in studio now. Does any one now when the next release will be?

El_Shiznit 06-28-2005 11:56 AM

AFI changed the way I looked at music which led me into getting into punk music, so they certainly have that effect.

They are indeed in the studio right now. But there hasnt' been any dates set for a release to my knowledge.

AntiPoliceAggro 06-28-2005 12:09 PM

Answer that and stay fashionable was decent, and anything after black sails (including black sails) just doesn't do too much for me.

RetiredAt21 06-28-2005 01:32 PM

I can't wait to hear their new stuff, I'm really excited.

Angry Balled Fists! 06-28-2005 01:42 PM

I'm listneing to This Celluoid dream at the moment.

Great song

blacklantern 06-29-2005 08:22 PM

they are in the studio now and they have said that the earliest they're hoping for the new album to come is around october... but as sing the sorrow was pushed back the same will probably happen to this album...

El_Shiznit 06-30-2005 09:26 AM

Yeah, on myspace, they just said that we should expect it around October. Although I'm not exactly sure if that is really them on myspace, blacklantern said October too, so that's a good sign. I am so excited now. :D

guns_of_brixton 06-30-2005 10:22 AM

New AFI album in October?

RCVA 06-30-2005 11:02 AM

I'm not sure about their old stuff but what i've heard from 'sing the sorrow' is quite poor. 'Your name here' is good though

Glass_Hero 06-30-2005 11:05 AM

October? sweet deal

RetiredAt21 06-30-2005 01:02 PM

I'm not a big fan of Sing The Sorrow either, but I do like the song Dancing Through Sunday. I love the guitar solo in that song.

Anti-Flag Not Fag 06-30-2005 07:41 PM

ehh... i think they're good but i'm not a huge fan of them if they came around here though i'd deff. go see them

blacklantern 07-01-2005 01:46 AM

um el_shizzy i dont think AFI have a profile on my space.... not that im aware of... if they do can you please notify me of it?? Yeah october seems to be the earliest release dat but im putting my money on around december.... they apparently wrote 70 songs for sing the sorro, wonder if any of them will make an appearance on the new album...

Violent&Funky 07-01-2005 09:19 AM

Pretty sweet band, but I don't really like the direction of STS. It's good music, but it's getting a little too pseudo-goth teen friendly. And I know that's not a valid reason to judge a band, but I just can't shake that feeling. Definitely a very talented bunch though, and I always go to see em when they come around.

edit: also, probably one of the reasons their shows are so awesome is because of their rabid fan base. All the pseudo-goths know all the lyrics, and the crowds are never ****ty, just a bit young and depressed =)

RetiredAt21 07-01-2005 10:16 AM

I'm sure some of the "leftover" songs from Sing The Sorrow will make it on to the new album.

Flagjacket 07-01-2005 10:25 AM

They probably will, but I read they they just wrote like, 30 or so songs and picked the ones they liked most for the new album.

blacklantern 07-01-2005 10:53 AM

so what do you reckon will happen to all these other songs that they dont use? a b-sides album(s) maybe? or even maybe a box set... i hope that they dont go to waste...that would be a shame... i would also like to see a AFI dvd released, that would be awesome...

Tjebby 07-01-2005 10:55 AM

Some songs aren't meant to be released.

Concertina 07-01-2005 12:13 PM

They've written over 50 songs, apparently. They will all choose their favourites and put about 15 on the new cd.
Link us to the thread.
I can't find a thread right now. They said it in a magazine, possibly AP...

GoBackToOz 07-01-2005 12:57 PM

Did AFI come out with a new CD yet??

Angry Balled Fists! 07-01-2005 01:10 PM

I'm listening to God called in sick today now

I love this song

Berserker! 07-01-2005 01:19 PM

When I was 11/12 all I listened to was afi. I don't listen to them much anymore at all.

Sleeper 07-01-2005 07:15 PM

is that in addition to the 60 some-odd they had left over from sing the sorrow?

blacklantern 07-01-2005 07:20 PM

thats apparently what happened to Sing the Sorrow. they wrote a bunch of songs and just chose 12 songs (14 songs on the UK cd). I guess it would be pretty hard to narrow it down from 50+ down to around 15.. I hope they come to Australia.. I've heard there live shows are awesome i just missed out last time on tickets.. I wont this time..

angryyoungandpoor 07-03-2005 07:56 PM

Anyone been on their website recently? I just was on there and there is a new song as background music. The name is head like a hole and it is very industrial sounding. Go to it and listen.
