I was going to, but feel free to do it. I have a couple of others I was going to do first, as I still need to get more material by them.

DO THEM PLEASE! :D
Ok, too tired now. Ill get it up tomorrow. |
I just bought The Scepter Of The Ancients.
I can't wait for the new album, I hope their new vocalist is good. |
I shall look foward to seeing something on Psycroptic.
In other news, The Butterfly Effect has announced the name of their upcoming album. It is to be called Imago, and should be released in early 2006. Clint did has a new interview which can be found here, and it is quite good. Dungeon will be playing their final two shows ever. If you live in either Sydney or Brisbane, make sure you can be there. Brisbane Flyer Sydney Flyer The release of Cog's debut album, The New Normal, has been pushed back to the 21/11/05 for any New Zealanders reading. More details can be found at http://www.johnbutlertrio.com Destroyer 666 have this to say:
We are currently working on a LP, featuring all D666 7" tracks. As well as 2 unreleased tracks which were originally recorded Oct.2003 as 7" to commerate that years aussie tour. Alas, I remained unsatisfied with the vocals, and the songs sat around forgotten till recently. We hope this will be of benefit for those still tormenting (me) for copies of the 7"s. May be released Jan 2006.
Finally, I'll be updating the first post with some helpful links etc, so you may want to give that a look. :) |
Fucking yes!
I'm gonna buy Dungeon tickets tommorrow!
I tried to get mine the other day, but the store said they hadn't recieved them yet. I was so pissed off. Tim, if you happen to read this, you had better let me buy you a beer at the Brisbane gig. :chug: |
I wonder if they will have any merch?
That is my one regret from seeing them support Megadeth. Not getting a bloody shirt. |
Well, for a while they were having trouble securing a venue for their final Brisbane gig. At one point it looked as though it was going to get canned, so I message Tim on myspace. He replied with Glenns E-Mail address and said he handled the merch. I eventually got an E-Mail back saying that he could meet up with me and sell me a shirt, if they didn't get a venue. Luckily they did get a venue, so they'll have merchandise there, but I missed out on meeting him.
/side story ++ Also, if anyone has any good websites they use for keeping track of gigs in their area, please post them up. EDIT: I just listened to Wolfmother's album. It rocked my socks. :thumb: |
Quick question:
Please don't flame for this either, i am a little ignorant. Why are Dungeon playing their last shows? Obviously they've broken up, but why? By the way, sick thread. |
Don't worry about that last post, I found out.
Now, does anyone know WHY Stu and Glen are leaving? |
It's on the front page of Dungeon's website last I checked.
Got my ticket today!!!!! |
thirsty merc - relatively new, light rock - pretty good stuff... on the radio all the time - funny too -
"i wish somebody would build me a bridge so i could get over myself" "every breath you ta- as id sing that song to you, you probably think you deserve it at the present time" good music, try do one about them =) |
I got to see the last Melbourne gig. I really wanna get upto the gaelic club in syd for the LAST LAST LAST gig, but I have no one to go with. Gonna miss Dungeon.
BUUT, keep an eye out for LORD and 20GRAMS (Stu's band), if they havnt already been posted in here. |
I became the proud owner of a signed copy of LORD's A Personal Journey at the final Brisbane gig.
Thanks for giving me the name of Stu's next project, I'll try and give them a look. :thumb: |
AC/DC are only partially Australian. Angus and Malcolm are Scottish (born in Glasgow I think). And we all know we think of Angus when we think AC/DC.
Yeah i think it was only Rudd who was originally Australian. |

G_Mac's Local Acts #1
Over past year I've discovered a number of local acts who put on a decent live show. It's also been a while since I've done any whoring, so here we go! Please note, all these bands will be from Brisbane. Firstly, I'll introduce Metallurgy. These guys are pretty young, I'd say 19-20 at the most. Their Traditional Metal sound seems to be heavily influced by the likes of Iron Maiden etc, which can only be a good thing. I've seen them twice now, and I will say that these guys should have been given the set right before Dungeon the other week. Nothing has been recorded as of yet, but they do have a live recording of I Am The Storm available on their myspace. Give it a listen. http://www.myspace.com/metallurgy YAAAAAAARRRRR!!! Pirate Metal ahoy! Since Mid 2005 Scuurvy have been Brisbane's finest Pirate Metal band (although I don't believe there is much competition). Again they are very much in their early days, yet to record a demo, or even get a gig. The only way I found about them was because one of their members lurks these parts. Give 'em a listen. HAHAAAAAAAARRRRRRRR!!!! http://www.scuurvy.com http://www.myspace.com/scuurvy Heavily influenced by Dream Theater, Arcane are leading the way with Brisbane's Progressive Metal scene. When I first saw these guys, all I could think was DT, and that's pretty much still the case. The only difference is their technical abilities . Anyway, they are a much better live act than is shown on their recorded material. http://www.arcaneband.cbj.net http://www.myspace.com/arcaneaustralia Repeat Offender have been making quite a name for themselves around here in the local rock scene. I've been a small fan since I saw them open for The Butterfly Effect a few months ago. They are now competiting in the finals of some local Rock Awards thing, which is all based on peoples choice. Musically everything is pretty straight foward Hard Rock, but they do it well. Samples are available here: http://www.myspace.com/repeatoffendermusic |
Yeah i think it was only Rudd who was originally Australian.
my god man, bon scott was a melburnian... silverchair back together...album late 2006 |
the only australian bands that i like are silverchair and who am i.... i guess theres no need to put mp3 samples since i guess most of you or not all of you has an album....
There actually called "you am i"...and one of my good mates is there lead guitarist, unfortunately Dave and i were in the same band and he left us to join them...Good on him, anyone would have done the same :thumb: peace!! |
Quite surprised to see no mention of two awesome aussie bands that are longer hitting it anymore...Damaged and Alligience...if u have never heard of them track them down...the drummer from Damaged is mental!! j/k
Recently I've been quite impressed by a couple of Australian artists, and I feel it's time to start introducing these groups to the rest of musicianforums. However, I realise I actually know very little about some of the up and coming musicians that are currently working down under, and I feel we could all do with hearing a few more Aussie artists.
So here we will use this thread to introduce great Aussie acts to each other, but, in order for this to work properly we should have some guidelines. Thread Guidlines - Please Read 1. If you are going to introduce a new artist, be sure to make it a high quality post. For example, check out one of the forums Featured Artists. These are always produced to a high standard, and if you can produce something similiar (not as in depth) to that it would be great. Also, a dodgy post will probably mean a great band will be overlooked, and you wouldn't want to risk that. 2. If a band is currently being discussed, please do not introduce a new spotlight band. As many of these groups will only be small time, it's more than likely that discussion will not continue for long periods of time. If a post goes unanswered for a day or two, please introduce your artist at this point. By doing this you will ensure each user/artist has had an oppurtunity to be recognised. 3. Do not simply list Australian bands. 4. Please be willing to share a few uploads so we all get an idea of how each group sounds. 5. If you are not an Aussie, please don't hesitate to post up something on a good Aussie act. New Zealand artists are also welcome. So, lets hope this works. :) The Red Paintings The Band: Guitar and Lead Vocals - Trash McSweeney Bass - Jasmine Ebeling Drums - Leigh Doolan Violin and Backing Vocals - Ella Stancombe Wayne Jennings - Chello The Red Paintings are a 5 piece group who have described their own sound as "Orchestrated Sci-fi Art rock", and I couldn't find a better way to describe them myself. Hailing from Brisbane, they have just release a 7 track EP entitled Walls, and a set to be making their way around the country. If you get the chance, I suggest you go and see them. I saw a free gig they did and it was great, which has left me imagining how amazing one of their actual gigs must be (They apparently have quite an interesting stage show, proving they are artists both musically and visually). Discography: Angel Flummox [EP] - Released 1999 Reality [Ahead of Schedule] [EP] - Released 2000 Cinema Love LP - Released 2002 Rain [Single] - Released 2004 Your Tears Are Warning Signs - Released 2004 Walls [EP] - Released 2005 Of all their releases, I myself only have Your Tears Are Warning Signs, which is really quite good. It's an acoustic album released with only 3 band members appearing (no Drummer or Bassist). It's different, but great at the same time. To state the obvious, it makes the Strings a lot more prominent, which reflects the mood of the music very well. From what I've heard of the other albums (they all have something available to download on the official website), everything seems to have a similiar sound. Don't be put off by that statement, although the songs are similiar, they do not become stale. I'll stop rambling now so you can give this group a listen :thumb: http://www.theredpaintings.com Uploads from Your Tears Are Warning Signs The Red Paintings - The Revolution Is Never Coming The Red Paintings - The Fall of Rome The Red Paintings - Dead Children The Red Paintings - Rain Tracks from Other Releases Past Spotlight Artists 1. The Red Paintings, or Red Pastiches are awful
Please use the edit button. And please don't post just to call dibs. The point of this thread is to post your article when there is a slow period in the thread (at least a day or two where the previous post goes unanswered), and then let people discover and discuss.
Is anyone bothering to give The Red Paintings a listen? I'm yet to hear anyone who's heard them say they don't like them.
Inarguably pretentious, The Red Paintings, or Red Pastiches, are not in the least bit as innovative as so often self-promoted, their explicit use of art to attempt to elevate some Blink182 with strings attached tripe is trite, an insult to actual innovation, wherein structure and technique should be ingenious. |

I will concede that TRP can come across as prententious, but what is this other babble you've come out with? Comparing the artistic integrity of the band with Blink 182? Whilst any musician who listens to the band will realise there are no great amounts of technical ability in any of their works, they are significantly different from your run-of-the-mill radio pop band. bluey, well done. :thumb:
He Forgot Jet, and Butterfingers
You sir, are an idiot. You've managed to quote my entire post without reading anything but the list of spotlighted bands at the bottom. Firstly, I did not write the reviews for a large majority of that list. If you want those bands done, do it yourself. Secondly, I hate Jet. And finally, I did not "forget" Butterfingers. He hasn't been reviewed here as he is not part of the Rock and Metal genres. I will be doing something on him in Other Music when I'm back on here regularly. |
Heh, Jet really do give Aussie acts a bad name.
|
Yeah, you lot have done well for yourselves since we left...
