Hey again jean, im obsessed with basses with lots of strings thanks to you!!! ****!!...
;) |
Hey Jean,
I looked at an article by Billy Sheehan and he said he could of gone with more then 4 strings but he said he had everything he needed with 4. and my qustion is what made you break out of the 4,5,6 or even 7 barrier and go to 9 and 11 strings ? |
hey again there jean i whanted to know more about the MIDI on your bass i forget witch one. like how does it work? how much $$$? is in just a pickup? does it go in the bass like a preamp? who makes it? thanks bro. P.S. i love the bee bass so much.
I believe he's got one of those Roland pickups, and possibly a Yamaha? controller in his rack. Don't quote me on that. The Yamaha PU's are relatively inexpensive though, and the rack gear is not too bad. A good foot controller is more costly than I would have thought. |
Where can I find a pic of the Bee Bass?

thats the bee |
Any rough dates on the new album?
I probably have close to 60 songs in various stages of completion. However, I'm waiting for an 11-string to be finished and I want to spend a good couple of months on it and get some solid stuff down with it (I don't want it on there as an after thought) .... so hopefully a month or two after I have an 11-string + about 4 months! hahaha. I suck. |
Jean, I've been linked to the talkbass forums, more specifically the threads about your numerous custom basses and just right now I've had a look at your signature Conklin 9 stringer, pretty retro.
You describe your 9 string Bee Bass as having more of a guitar feel to it, which is kind of funny because I've been describing my 9 in the works as a guitar with a bass feel to it. Anyway, at this point I'm going to ask who have you got currently making basses for you? And have you ever heard of Ergo Instruments ? The guy has built some pretty "interesting" basses in the past.
Basses in the works? Some are public knowledge, some are secret!!! :naughty: when my website becomes a real one, there'll be a page for each bass with a story and sound clips for each. A friend of mine has an Ergo upright, but I've never played one. The bee is more guitar like because it's really short scale and has a high string. strum-strum-strum! |
As long as it's killer music, who cares how long it takes?
|
Jean, Another guy from TB here....how do you like using a wristband for muting the strings close to the headstock? i might do that myself ;)
he's only there because he looks good. the wrist band has a ghost from pac-man on it. I had a pac-man thing that swung back and forth stuck on the headstock too (you are supposed to stick inside of your car window) but I had to take it off because it prevented the bass from fitting inside the case. I have some pac-man tuners in the works. :D |

I think paul answered it - but it's called a Midi Polydrive module made by RMC... conklin lists it on their site as a $400 upgrade. Plus you have to have Piezos in the bridge ($80 per string)... then you need to run into something ... I'm using a Roland GR-33 and I have some Sound Modules like the Motif Rack, Emu and Roland XV-5080. I can also run it directly into my computer for recording. I have midi in my new Conklin basses the 9 and the 11 (which isn't done yet). glad you like the bee bass... hope I answered your question. |

I would rather color a picture with this: Instead of this: However, I'm sure with either set someone can make a great drawing. To me more strings = more fun. |
      wow he even used crayola and washable too  wow this totally kicks ***
Hey again jean, im obsessed with basses with lots of strings thanks to you!!! ****!!...
;)
As long as I don't find you sleeping on my doorstep, I'm okay with it. ;) |
My argument on the string thing is what about when you get this: and you just waste time because there's too many there.

 another fan. I just love your tapping skills, it's just amazing. :thumb:
|
Jean, you seem to play 9+ strings a lot of the time. If you picked up a 4 string, would it take you time to get used to the small width of the neck?
|
jean, some people say caffeine is bad for your playing, how much caffeine do you in take and how bad do you think it is?
|
:D That was Subcontra. For some reason the guitar tabs had a guitar, the drum tabs had some drums, and the bass tabs had a microphone... so Subcontra showed the admin the Pacman bass and he loved it!
psh and who suggested the pac9 to subcontra  |
Hey Jean.
Great to have you here answering questions :) I was wondering what you do to warm up before you start to play? I play a 7string and I found it put some extra stress on my arms and wrists. :smoke: |

I'm back! if you know exactly what color you want, you wouldn't be wasting any time. I'm not a victim of "option anxiety" - I embrace it. However, I understand why most people would freak out over x number of strings... it's not for everyone. |

no problems. I have a couple of fours, fives and a six. It's like riding a bike (with training wheels) ..... I kid, I kid. |
jean, some people say caffeine is bad for your playing, how much caffeine do you in take and how bad do you think it is?
never heard of that, but ironically I drink decaf. Mainly because if I drink caffeinated (I'm talking mocha/coffee here) for a couple of days and stop I get a major headache. If I drink decaf and stop - no headache. |
Hey Jean.
Great to have you here answering questions :) I was wondering what you do to warm up before you start to play? I play a 7string and I found it put some extra stress on my arms and wrists. :smoke:
yikes... I serously do no warm-up excercises (maybe that's a bad thing)... I just pick it up and play whatever. Though I have no stress on my arms/wrists... hmmm... maybe it's the angle you are playing at or your hand position that's causing the discomfort. Try tweaking the angles of your wrist (if you can handle adapting your technique) - if you are wearing a strap maybe wear it a little higher (not dorkestra high, but enough that your thumb isn't visible from the front on your left hand - if you're right handed). With proper technique you shouldn't have any problems with a 7 string, even if you have little hands. |
^^ okay.. It's not that I have big problems with it though.
But you should start doing warm-up though. Just to be safe. Wrist damage isn't a good thing :D Just to be sure... :smoke: |
Hey I was just looking at the Pac bass and noticed the Two input jacks on it...
How does this work? and why is it there? Sorry if this has been asked. |
Hi there Mr. Jean Beaudin!
About the crayola crayons? I see theres 64.... I have you ever dreamed of making a 64 string bass?? You don't really have to answer that, I just didn't know what to ask. |
Dear Mr. Jean Baudin,
When are you going to start posting and become an official MX forumite?! We'd love to see you in some threads, listening to songs, entering bass competitio----- well, maybe not entering bass competitions, because only CoffeeKiller or Bass_Guy could stand a chance, but still.... |
Ooh, here's a question... how exactly is your name pronounced?
|
I was looking at your basses and noticed that you had a fretless (with black beauties it seemed), which got me wondering do you prefer the sound of the fretless to a fretted bass, or is it just for certain pieces? How often do you use it?
