Man, I <3 The Fountain of Lamneth.

The more Rush I listen to, the more I am starting to enjoy them.

3 piece band aswell, so much going on in their sound.

Geddy has a great voice!

Their web-site is fantastic

Distant Echoes 03-26-2005 06:40 PM

As soon as i get a keyboard, im gonna learn Tom Sawyer.

On guitar, i know
Tom Sawyer
Distant Early Warning
Spirit of Radio (not so good though)
2112 (overature/temple)
something else i forget

Their fun to play. I wish their was a full guitar tab for working man on the internet though. There all just the same fragments of the song

EDIT: yes, my last post did get screwed up

Cain 03-27-2005 12:09 AM

I have the note-for-note tab in a Rush book. I've always thought that I'd make a tab of it someday, although writing it in real music would be easier. :-/ Maybe I can scan it at school and send it to you as a PDF.
Rush is so much better than Dream Theater. Dream Theater has pointless 15 minute keyboard solos. Rush is catchy and overall better music.
So is a 15 minute keyboard solo is not okay, but guitars and drums can do 15 minutes solos. Have you ever even been to a concert.

For some reason i get rush songs down fairly easy.. but Iron Maiden songs... that takes time... i have no idea why...

heyho_letsgo 03-27-2005 03:05 PM

I absolutely love Neil's solo. its ****in awesome!!! My favorite song is Tom Sawyer

Thunder Fingers 03-27-2005 03:38 PM
Learn Freewill; the bass solo is fun.
yeah, when i get an overdrive i will start on the songs that use that. it sounds so much cooler, and willl give me boost to learn them...

thunderzstruck 03-27-2005 06:56 PM
And La Villa Strangiato
Seriously?!?!

I have a hard time playing it even in my dreams

Yeah I also have that book. The purple one.

I can play

YYZ (no solo yet)
Tom Sawyer (no solo yet)
Working Man (no solo yet)
Spirit of Radio (no solo yet)

Thinking of learning Teh trees or closer to the heart.

And yes, I don't have the attention span to learn the solos :upset:

HA! i'm just the opposite-i've learned quite a few maiden songs by ear (except prodigal son-that was TOUGH!!!) but rush-they've taken me a while.

Thunder Fingers 03-31-2005 10:06 AM

Running Free by maiden was the first ong i ever learned by ear..:p i was running around the house being happy afterwards..

my latest acomplisment is Spirit of the radio

IAJP 03-31-2005 11:44 AM

Waha! Running Free is a cool song.

Converse 03-31-2005 01:05 PM

Most hardcore Maiden fans consider "Running Free" to be utter banality of the worst sort. :-/

Shattered_Future 03-31-2005 02:21 PM

Rush = Best prog rock/metal trio EVER

IMO of course...

Distant Echoes 03-31-2005 04:19 PM
my latest acomplisment is Spirit of the radio
That intro riff is sick...But somedays i can barely arrange my hand coordination to play it and other days i nail it. Lately, since i havent been showing progress, i found it easier to rock the Wawa pedal back and forth with the flanger one while playing the riff...because it sounds pretty sweet, and it covers up my mistakes well  :upset:

The solo is crazy though...its so sloppy i have no idea what to do to play ratinally close to Lifeson since its so sloppy (and i prefer innovating).

Ive been looking at some of their equipment lately, and i seen lifesons guitar go for appr. $3000. Not his personally, but just the model. Thats a ****load for a hollowbody electric.

Does anybody know a webpage that list Pearts current Drum setup...but the specifics for the whole set. I only know the general setup and makes of everything

I love it... :)
But yeah, back to Rush!

Metal? I dunno. Maybe for their time they could have been considered borderline prog metal, but still, they really aren't that heavy. I think the heaviest they get is Tom Sawyer. Overall their music is fairly happy and uplifting. It always puts me in a good mood. Maybe its just Geddy's voice.

If I m a bad mood I always listen to Rush. Working Man I think would be heaviest.

TojesDolan 03-31-2005 10:01 PM

I just got Feedback. amazing record. Not as complex at moments like other albums, but the last songs are just amazing (think it's Crossroads) what are your thoughts on feedback?

Geddy's not that great.

Seafroggys 03-31-2005 11:48 PM

But Geddy is such a cool name though.

YDload 03-31-2005 11:56 PM
Geddy's not that great.
At singing maybe, but he's a phenomenal bass player. He might not have any special techniques, yet he's really great at playing tough fills, syncopated notes, and all while singing!

Leper 04-01-2005 12:47 AM

he Geddys the job done...wow that was bad.

Cain 04-01-2005 12:59 AM

I meant at singing. His skill on bass is indisputable, true enough.

TojesDolan 04-01-2005 02:12 AM

The singing on the newer records is a lot more friendly. The older records have a really whiny voice, but you just can't deny you love that crazy voice.
Most hardcore Maiden fans consider "Running Free" to be utter banality of the worst sort. :-/
now your kidding... we do? i didnt know that... its a live classic, and what makes it an even more classic is that it was the first song steve ever wrote...

I love Geddys voice, i think its great, and fits Rush very good, and hes the best band bass player out there, his basslines are awsome, and he knows EXACTLY where and what to put in, and dont tell me that his jumping 1 finger technique aint special... i have inhereted it myself when playing slower stuff..
