[B]The Epileptics - Hitler's Still A Nazi[/B] 1:49

Starts on a tune up and a count off in an unreconizable accent/launage that sounds German, which would make sense. Funky Fuzzed out power chords make the songs entrance. Yeah I love tone like this, the lo fi drums compliment them greatly. At 10 seconds the vocalist enters slurring and mumbling all over the place. His voice occasionly cracks and back up singers join in on the downbeat and what I think in the chorus. This singer reminds me of someone very familiar but I can't put my finger on it, but I dig it so it doesn't matter. The song continues for another minute in the same vein and more of the all over the place vocals adding more hooks. It all and ends on one last sung note that sounds like it's phased.

I'm a big fan of the Descendents so this song was cool to do.
It starts off as one of those typical Descendents bass-line for the intro then quickly goes into the guitar which is the same line as the bass. Then the guitar goes into power chords as Milo sings. After he's done singing it goes back into the bass and guitar line that's very catchy and up-down like (the same one that's in the beginning). Then it goes back into the simplistic powerchords accententing Milo's vocals. "She don't need no one, she don't need no one, she don't need me." Then it stops abruptly.
This song is a VERY typical Descendents song, so I liked it since typical Descendent's songs are awesome.

I've heard a little from these guys, but not a lot, so I guess this is a good time to listen to them. Starts off with a simple power chord progression on guitar and a really simple drum beat. Lyrics start, the voice is very anarcho sounding, a little bit hard to understand, but the lyrics still get across pretty well. The chrous seems to be conveying not wanting someone else's progress. The music is still really simple throughout the song, its obvious the focus is on the lyrics. It's a short song, but too the point. Pretty good I would say. 8/10

The Trojans - Gaelic Ska

If I had not known what the genre of this band and song was prior to listening and if the title wasn't such a blatant giveaway, I would have never expected this to be ska. The first 15 seconds is pure Celtic tunes but then bang bang bang go the drums and it's ska! Vocals are calm and sound good. The fiddle (guessing) in the background gives the song an upbeat feeling. After a couple verses and whatnot, and some other hubbub, comes a nice little instrumental bridge or what have you, introduced by a "1 2 3" and a "yeehaw". Good ****. The words flow nicely with the song and the mixture of ska horn sounds and Celtic instruments goes together well. We have another one of those instrumental things, but this time with those ska chikitas, more "yeehaws", and some "woo hoos", and that is the conclusion of the song. Definitely downloading the rest of this album, 10/10

The Song starts with a simple repitive guitar, then the drums come in, and then the vocals, theres something about these vocals i really like, but i cant seem to name it. They suit the song really good. This song reminds me immensely of the Mad Caddies. I like the Mad Caddies, and I think it's a pretty cool song. Since I'm picky about ska, that means a lot. I like it because it's punk/ska which is very appealing to me.
It starts off in a simple, slow upbeat. Then a drum roll and then the slow beat continues with faster palm mutes in between. Then the vocals come in and the upbeat is faster. The singer is pretty scratchy and reminds me of Against All Authority's voice a bit. After he sings the verse, the chorus slows down the upbeat and he sings slower, then back to the faster upbeats where he sings the second verse (same as the first.) Then it goes back to the slower upbeats where he sings his stretched out vocals, and it's really good.
I enjoyed the song, it's better than all the other ones on the purevolume. This is the kind of ska I like, but I've heard better. Maybe SLM isn't the best comparison band.

Flux of Pink Indians - Charity Hilarity

The song begins with a short little intro that has a catchy bass line. This little riff is played a bunch of times throughout the song. Ok anyways the intro is that riff twice, then the singer's all like: "1 2 3 4", and he thinks he's all badass with his British accent. Typical Flux song, great vocals and I'm sure they're great lyrics too.. but I can't find any (too lazy to look for them anywhere but plyrics) and it's way too hard to understand anything. I don't think there is a chorus in this song, they must thing they're punk and original for doing this but they WERE WRONG BITCHES. But there's like three bridges, and I'd describe them, but it's not worth the effort and it wouldn't be interesting to read... Sorry this is a bad review. Good song 8/10

Begins with a single guitar playing a simple riff for about 5 seconds until the drums cut it. The riff continues over the top until the vocals come in after around 20 seconds.


The lyrics are not very clear and can be quite hard to hear, although the melodic tunes are held very well. The music repeats in a strange order, that seems to be fairly ranodom although sounds very good.

There is a little break that goies into a drum roll after around 55 seconds until the singer pops back in over the guitar riff from the intro. After around 1:20 the song title is ringing out, andd this lasts for about 20 seconds, going over the same musical background.

Then the song quietns down for a little while, before building up to a brilliant outro of the screaming 'let me go' which leads out of the song.

Very good song, great band, shame they broke up.

It starts off in a drum beat with distorted guitar. After that it slows down and then a trumpet sounding instrument comes in. Then it speeds up again with the distorted guitar and similar drum beat as the beginning had. The lyrics sound like a Propagandhi, but much softer. After the chorus there is a trumpet solo, and drum beat in the background. The tempo changes a lot, along with the lyrics which make it a very catchy song. The ending is in a slow trumpet tune for 4-5 seconds then it ends abrupt. The lyrics aren't anything special but he sings very well along with the music. This is a pretty awesome song, and I like when it used the trumpet and how it did.
It was pretty original, and I really liked the guy's voice. I wouldn't recommend this to everybody though.

Its starts with an " Sound i dont know what it is..." With a slow(slow) steady bass beat, and a little drums. Its starts gettin faster and faster than the vocals start... I dont like the vocals, ( Its just not me) But there is a good meaning to the lyrics, as bad as he is at singing. The guitar and drums are very repitive The Song overall to me sounds very slow, But near the end it just keeps speeding up, but i think it just sounds stupid.. ( Sorry Anti Prefix) I didnt really "connect with this song" and i needa be able to dance to my music, i like it to make me happy... not more sad.

Sounds kinda like Against All Authority on crack. It's basically how they describe them selves "Ska mixed with brain hemorrhaging Punk Rock". It's good, but it needs a little variety.

This is the catchiest song I've ever heard. I like it very, very much.
It starts off with raw power chords then goes into it's little riff which goes throughout the whole song. Then the singer starts singing, "She never said a single word to me" followed by this extremely catchy riff. The singer then keeps singing, the riff taking a different style, but still very excellent. Then he sings at around 1:35 "Well I can't decide, make up your mind" and this extremely catchy guitar solo roars. After that the chorus "Well I can't decide, make up your mind" repeats as the song slowly fades to an unfortunate end.
I absolutely loved this song, and I'm going to download the whole album. It's definitely a perfect break from my normal punk/jazz mood.

I could only hear the middle of the song, so this may be more vague than previous ratings of the songs. It has a very calm, but serious sound to me. No serious distortion on the guitar, which was the calm part. The british vocals sounded very serious to me, they were very slow and easy to recognize "they think that we're just joking". The drum beat kept at a steady pace and the song turned out to have a good sound and beat to me.

This may be a wrong review of it, since i only heard 30 seconds of the middle of the song (only one i could find)

I didn't like this song too much, but some parts I liked alot. The intro was pretty cool, up until the vocals came in. They were a bit too poppy for my tastes, and I didn't like the guitar riffs in the verse. It wasn't too great up until the guitar solo, which improved the song alot. After the solo, it had a short ending. Only thing bad about it was the vocals, which I didn't really like. I'd probably like the band alot better live. A really short song, and just a really basic song structure, but I give it a 6 out of 10. 5 being the middle.

This is not the type of song id normally listen to, but for some reason i like it.
Its starts with a cool tune, Not something that you would find in punk. Im not sure what to think of the vocals, He sings fairly fast but any slower it would sound stupid. The Whole song just kinda flows, and the style is changed up often enough so its not boring.. and not confusing. The Words Young Savage is said quite alot, but isnt actaully that annoying.. 8/10

The song starts with a pretty weird, but cool guitar riff after a short horn. Soon you start to hear some horns playing (trumpets?) and the guitar gets faster and more ska sounding. The vocals sound catchy and fun. The chorus after each verse by the main singer sing "Brutah Ska". The song stays on the same route of sound and vocals. The song soon gets into a different vocalist singing more scratchy and slowly, along with the guitar getting slower, then the song gets back to the way it was. At the end the horns star playing and the guitar gets calmer and slower. Good Song

I had to hear this song. My Science teacher said he hung out on their boat at New Jersey and played the songs "Punk Rock Girl" and "Ocean City" for hours. I haven't heard them and this is a good time to check them out.
It starts off with a really catchy riff. It's a pretty rad, and poppy song. Then the lyrics come in. It's basically about the singer wanting a punk rock girl desperately. It's a poppy, upbeat awesome song. It's very catchy and definitely an anthemic like song. It's basically like that the whole song until 1:30 where it goes into a solo similar to the riff. Then back into the same song.
It's very awesome, it's sort of like I expected. I don't know, I can see their other songs being worse.
This one was definitely really well done though.

First off, I rarely listen to these guys, but they're great. The song starts off with some trumpet or something and some really cool skaish guitar riff. It then goes into the chorus "It's a habit, well I have it. I never lost it, and now I want it back again!" or something to that effect. I really love the horns in this song, they're fantastic. The guitar is real good too, especially during the chorus. Eventually there is a short breakdown type thing, and then right back into verse. Great song 9/10.

I like the Descendents I've heard their music, just not this record.
The song begins with a distorted stroke and then gets right into it. The song is very fast and very political talking about how American's are stupid. "You don't want to listen you don't want to understan', You're just another stupid American." Not in that order. Anyway the songs chords remain the same the whole time until 1:10 when it breaks into a solo. Then it goes back into the same chords. "Listen to me, I'll tell you who I am, I'm just another stupid American."
A very powerful, melodic and political song.
This might be my favorite Descendents song, I love it when they do political stuff. Very amazing song you should all check out.

Starts of with a funky guitar, The instruments come in and a catchy melody is played. The singing in the song is good, and reminds me a lot of Pete Shelley from the Buzzcocks. The chorus is catchy and singalong-ish. My speakers are breaking and they crackle a lot so I dunno if its my speakers or the song thats crackling..Either way its a good catchy song, Exactly how a pop punk song should be

Reminds me of a local joke band called Chainsaw Tommy I know. The bassists brother is a guitarist in the Death Metal Band "Circle of Dead Children"

The fast tempo and guitar intro is pretty good... though I don't really like the location of the chord changes. The cliched "2,3,4!" is somthing I don't really like often in songs. Also the singer is trying to be a bit too scratchy. You can still kind of here his actual singing voice under the screamish stuff.

The bassline is actually quite a good bassline. Its a no frills, down to earth, simple good sounding bassline. The drumming is mediocre but what can you expect.

Overall I think that was a pretty decent song. It had a good foundation and the only thing I would say would be to just fine tune it. The only thing that irked me was the sound quality and the drumming and vocals weren't that great of a quality.

One of the Unseen's more raw songs (the way I like them). The beggining starts off with a drum intro and quickly goes into the singing. Chorus is nice and catchy, something you definately would sing along to at a show. Simple song structure but its simplicity has a good catchiness to it. A very good Unseen song. 9/10

I chose this song because the genre intrigued me. Starts off with a few auocustic chords, then a driving bass line comes in, along with electric guitar. I dislike the vocals, typical street punk vocals though, nothing special. Lyrics seem to be about the singers experiance when he was a kid. Pretty short song too, barely breaking the 2 minute mark. Not too bad of a song, but then again not that good.

[B]Big Black - Bad Penny[/B]

I have heard about these guys several time through this board and other places, but never checked them out so they caught my attention.

This song stars off with a short little bassline that is soon accompanied by drums then a very trebly distorted guitar and some other instruments (possibly keyboard). After the intro the song starts into what seems to be a verse then chorus etc. The lyrics seems to have a lot to do with trust/losing trust etc. Some Lyrics include "OUght to know what I liar I am, Ought to know me by now...Should have known you couldn't trust me As far as you could throw me You couldn't throw me to far" as the song goes on, alot of it seems repeated from earlier parts. Overall the song has a cool rhythm but it isn't really my taste. Some parts get a little repetative. The lyrics are fairly repetative aswell as the bassline, that continues throughout most of the song. Overall I give the song a [B]6/10 [/B]

[B]The Weakerthans – Exiles Among You[/B] (alternative/indie)

The song starts with a quick drum hit then the guitar and bass comes in for a breif ten-second intro. When the vocals come in, there are some gentle palm mutes and steady slow drums. The bridge and chorus have a good falling sound, although standard and not terribly interesting. The lyrics kind of bothered me with their generic “poor girl in a city trying to make it” amateur poetry quality; and they’re repeated a lot. At about three minutes, there’s a breakdown with drum less lazy subtle guitar. It steadily gets faster with feedback that brings in lone instrumentals that last for the remainder of the song. I’ve never heard of this band, and immediately upon hearing the singer I thought it sounded a lot like the more melodic vocalist of Propagandhi. I checked it out and sure enough Propagandhi’s John Samson fronts the Weakerthans. This music, however, is extremely different. It’s very soft and poppy with little distortion in the guitar and no fast paced punk edge to it at all. Samson’s indie style fits in well with it, but I think he sounds a lot better ranting about the government. Overall, I really wouldn’t recommend this song, unless you’re yearning for easy listening or just something light. [B] 3/10[/B]
