I don't understand how you can listen to Pink Floyd's albums skipping random songs. As if in it really doesn't make any sense to me as first of all the songs flow together so it sounds worse anyway, and secondly as it removes the whole concept. Obviously The Wall is their biggest example of a "concept" album, but most of their other albums have an underlying feel to them as well.
Yeah it defeats the purpose. Each album is actually like one freaking song, which owns

Deathtoall99 10-22-2004 08:13 PM

i just walked into the conversation but i wanted to know something Pinkfloyd related

me and a few of my friends are going to see the Austrailian pink-floyd cover band in a town near were we live

so has anyone seen em before??
they good..? whats your guys opinion and do you think they put on a better or worse show then the original pink Floyd?

paul_player 10-22-2004 08:32 PM

Brain Damage has some amazing lyrics, the line from Echoes that goes "Two strangers passing in the street, by chance two seperate glances meet, and I am you and what I see is me." Woah, that's wild. "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way," from 'Time' is cool and then the way the band switches right back into 'Breathe' is cool as well. Pink FLoyd has some of the most imaginative amazing lyrics ever, in every single one of their songs,(except instrumantals of course.)

paul_player 10-22-2004 08:44 PM

Speaking of instrumentals, i think a much overlooked song of Pink Floyd's is 'Any Colour You Like' off Dark Side of The Moon, it has some awesome keyboard playing by Richard Wright, it leads right into 'Brain Damage'.

Kingofdudes 10-22-2004 08:50 PM

I love the piano on the Great Gig in the Sky, those chords = orgasm

fret21 10-22-2004 09:03 PM

Oh its great music to listen to when your stoned,I'd say there a stoner band, kinda of really spacy, but its in a good way.I think there pretty talented.Comfortably Numb sounds really cool when your ****ed up.

Kingofdudes 10-22-2004 09:05 PM

I cant stand it when people say you can only listen to them when you are high. I enjoy them all the time without drugs

I enjoy them without drugs too.

weatherman123 10-22-2004 09:31 PM

i enjoy them period...drugs can make things better but on the same token you cant rely on them to improve music.

lunch998 10-22-2004 09:46 PM

I think On the Run is a really cool song. And drugs aren't always a necessity.

-Listy- 10-23-2004 08:54 PM

I enjoy them without drugs also, just if you are high it sounds much clearer and makes more sense, but of course you dont need drugs to enjoy them :)
Anyone else agree that 'Coming back to life' is such a great song, one of my faves at the moment, good guitar :)

Riva 10-24-2004 04:30 PM

I'd much rather listen to Floyd without the drugs. And I'm listening to Run Like Hell at the moment, which is my favourite song for this week.

Lumiere 10-24-2004 04:34 PM

I've got about 17 hours of Floyd stuff.

Yes, I'm a fanatic (well, not a massive fanatic).

Brew 10-24-2004 04:38 PM

I like Pink Floyd without being high or anything, but I'm still going to listen to it whilst high to see if it lives up to its hype.

Has anyone seen the Aussie Pink Floyd? They really are amazing, if you get chance to see them, go and do it.

You won't regret it.

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 04:39 PM

I've seen a clip of the Aussie Pink Floys thing. It looked pretty good.

People who say that Pink Floyd is only good when you're high are full of ****.

I'll look into it. :thumb:

When I saw them they played all of Dark Side of the Moon, had a break then played a greatest hits set.

The Great Gig in the Sky blew me away, the female singer they have for it was spot on.

Brew 10-24-2004 04:48 PM
Agreed...but I'm still holding out desperate hope for a re-union, even if it's just for 1 tour.

*is a Brit, so can't really look forward to seeing the Aussie Floyd* :upset:
They did a tour around the UK last year.

I saw them in Bristol.

Riva 10-24-2004 04:50 PM

Can you give us a link to a website or something?

Brew 10-24-2004 04:51 PM

http://www.aussiefloyd.com/

Enjoy.

Edit: If anyone here has half a memory, I used to have their logo as my avatar.

Riva 10-24-2004 04:53 PM

Bugger, they aren't touring in Australia again till the new year.

[DyingFetus] 10-24-2004 05:19 PM
my favorite ablum right now is the wall because all the songs go together so well and for the person who asked the wall is a story on roger waters aka 'pink' who is a burnout rockerstar who just sits in his hotel room all day, building a 'wall' around himself and his emotions.
Actually, Roger Waters wasn't Pink. Pink was a fictional character based on both Roger Waters and Syd Barrett. I haven't seen the movie or listened to the album thoroughly in a while, so I can't remember much of what was Waters and what was Barrett, but I think that the actual "Wall" thing in the hotel room was Syd, while the events in the "Another Brick In The Wall" songs were Waters (the event of his dad being killed in the war, the mistreating in the school, his wife cheating on him). I saw this interesting site before, that explained every detail of it, like basically the little things, i'll edit it in if I can find it.

"Another Link in the wall"

Has all of the major Pink Floyd websites.

gmoneyguy 10-25-2004 07:08 PM

Roger himself said he wrote the movie to reflect himself and not Syd.

Pigs(Three Different Ones) is now my new favorite Floyd song.

Riva 10-25-2004 07:10 PM

Good choice for a new favourite. :thumb:

I'm tossing up between Run Like Hell and Eclipse

gmoneyguy 10-25-2004 07:13 PM

I personally like Eclipse better. Run Like Hell just gets a little to old for my taste.

the mighty zep 10-25-2004 07:26 PM

Run like hell is much better to see live than listen to. You really feel the momentum of the song puch itself foward (RUN like hell). Eclipse is great too. Im planning on getting meddle pretty soon too. i heard echoes was one of the best song most people have heard, so im really just looking foward to that.

My favorite floyd song right now is probably Sheep or Welcome to the Machine. Its so hard to chose, but i personally cant enjoy the songs as much if i dont listen to it along with the album. WYWH has such a huge impact on me, and dark side is my goal for life to master.

I dont think ive ever heard a bad floyd song yet, except for them little 2 minute songs in between the good ones on the wall, but thats it. And not to mention, i havent heard much stuff when Barrett was in the band.

gmoneyguy 10-25-2004 07:29 PM

Barrett stuff is nothing like Gilmour stuff.

Riva 10-25-2004 07:31 PM

Just heard the end of Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)

That English bloke is really funny. "How can you eat your pudding if you don't eat your peas?!?"

the mighty zep 10-25-2004 07:31 PM

I sort ta figured that out the first time i ever heard his stuff. Sounds nothing like the normal floyd.

I never liked The Wall much either, since it seems sortta unlike them. DSOTM, WYWH, and Animals are sortta like them far out jam songs, but the wall is more like, song after song, withthe meaning of the album in every song, but not really like the others. I dont know why, but its always been my least favortie.
