Assuck!

Converge#12 07-06-2005 10:19 AM

I like a lot of grind inluenced bands like Cripple the Crossface, Daughters, Locust, and As the Sun Sets.

RetiredAt21 07-06-2005 10:21 AM

As The Sun Sets is a pretty good band, I like them.

Converge#12 07-06-2005 10:24 AM

Yeah there great but I don't know if its just me but I think they use a lot of samples.

RetiredAt21 07-06-2005 10:50 AM

I don't really think they use that many.

Manikin 07-06-2005 12:13 PM
I know we have plenty of crust fans in the punk forum, but how many grind fans do we have? I'd like to start some good discussion about grind/crust, your favorite bands, etc.

The Locust it's singular.

RetiredAt21 07-06-2005 02:36 PM

Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus and Circle of Dead Children are AWESOME. I love those bands.

Feel The Darkness 07-06-2005 02:59 PM
Disrupt and Spazz aint grind.
neither are Dystopia, all three are still great bands though

Toe Rag 07-06-2005 03:03 PM

Spazz is powerviolence which is arguably grind

Brain Toad 07-06-2005 03:06 PM

I never could figure out the difference between grind and powerviolence.

And Disrupt suck IMO, they are boring and annoying.

Toe Rag 07-06-2005 03:11 PM

Grind now a days is mostly just a lot of shitty death metal played quickly. There are some bands that play it and manage not to get into the DM shit like Birdflesh, Burnt by the Sun and older Cripple Bastards, and probably a lot of other stuff. I tend to shy away from grind because of the aforementioned reason. Powerviolence is playing grind without the or with little (death)metal influences. Get a hold of some Hellnation or Yacoepsae or something to see a good example.

Brain Toad 07-06-2005 03:12 PM

That's why I don't like Disrupt, it sounds like really ****ty death metal.

So Powerviolence is like grind, but with little or no metal influence hmm... I can see it sometimes in Charles Bronson and Spazz.

Toe Rag 07-06-2005 03:13 PM

I guess you could just say powerviolence is grind that stays close to its punk roots.

Toe Rag 07-06-2005 03:15 PM

Also, there /is/ metal influence, but it's really played down. It's mostly thrash metal instead of death metal.

^ Hellnation - Barricade

That's a pretty good example

Brain Toad 07-06-2005 03:19 PM

Ahhh, makes sense now, learn new something everyday. Thanks

Feel The Darkness 07-06-2005 04:09 PM

i had never considered it that way, but it does make sense, though i always threw PV in the same boat as grind, i just never thought too deeply as to why.

nice example, by the way. Hellnation are fucking killer.

Okay

RetiredAt21 07-06-2005 07:31 PM

Oh jeez, don't start fighting guys.

Toe Rag 07-06-2005 08:34 PM
I thought about this more today at work and which era Orchid are you talking about? Chaos is Me, Dance Tonight or Gatefold?
I'm quoting this cos I don't think RetiredAt21 saw it.

suburbanrebels 07-06-2005 09:46 PM

i never could get into grind. I just listen to crust and anarcho...

RetiredAt21 07-06-2005 10:30 PM

I'm not really sure which. My friend burned all of their material on to a couple cd's for me, but they aren't labeled, so I'm not really sure.

Toe Rag 07-06-2005 10:33 PM

Well, I could agree about Gatefold, but most people pretend that album doesn't exist. Chaos is Me is pretty straight-forward powerviolence. The only thing weird about it is it had extreme tempo changes, but they only happen once or maybe twice in a song. Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomorrow! just seems like a more artsy version of Chaos is Me

RetiredAt21 07-06-2005 10:34 PM

I wish I knew which cd I have is which. The jerk should have labeled them.

RetiredAt21 07-07-2005 10:12 AM

Ok, he told me one of the cd's I have is Chaos Is Me. This one if my favorite.

wenzdaie 07-07-2005 11:21 AM

agoriphobic nosebleed...seems like a good idea, but they get annoying quick...do the dillinger escape plan count as grind? i thinkee so...i like them...and, blood duster...pig destroyer, i have a comp. they were on a ways back...i liked them mostly for the guitar...you fools should definetly check out a band called You Would Look Better If I Shot You In The Face...i have no idea who they are, where they're from...nuthin...i stumbled across their website on a hxc website, and...crazyness...
listen to their song: http://server2.hxcmp3.com/bands/13254/index.php
