I LOVE that album. Possibly their best.

RideTheSpiral 07-16-2004 01:56 AM

Grave Digger?

JMetallica 07-16-2004 02:47 AM

The German Speed Metal band.... You must have heard of them, they've been putting out quality album after album for 20 years.

Check them out. Their latest is called Rheingold, excellent metal; you'll love it.

RideTheSpiral 07-16-2004 02:51 AM

I've heard of them. I'll try to check them out.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-16-2004 04:11 AM

Grave Digger....geeze, it seems like even with close to a thousand cd's i still can find metal bands i have nothing by!!!

JMetallica, give me a list of their three best albums (or just the three you enjoy most, i usually like your taste :) ) and i will look into them soon enough :thumb:

PS: i supported you in the Nevermore discussion, hehe.

Mark. A 07-16-2004 04:57 AM

Hehe, well, because you did, I'll try to help you out here. :p

I only have 5 of their albums, Heavy Metal Breakdown, Witch Hunter... The Reaper, Excalibur and Rheingold.

Their history is split into two: their first three 80's efforts and 7 that came out after a few years off.

Out of the ones i have heard... The First two sound very 80-ish, like rage and running wild at the same time. So pretty much good german speed metal. The later 3 i feel they developed a sound of their own: very heavy and very biting. Chris Boltendahl's voice developed in their time off, and it has the most magnificent rasp to it. I love his vocals on the last three. The song writing and production also went up a few notches too. On the first two, they sounded quite dirivative and the songs lacked a bit of diversity.

I really cannot choose a favourite, but, the safest bet would probably be to go with The Reaper first, as it is kind of middle ground. Excalibur is really intense, while Rheingold is just straight up heavy. So yeah, get those three first i guess. :D

Lmao, i love them all. If you like Rage and Running Wild, you will like Grave Digger. Although, they are heavier than RW, and a little heavier than Rage at times.

Note To Self: Must get more GDer albums.

Check some of their stuff out yourself. :)

EDIT: Oh, some people don't like the vocals; kind of a love them or hate them type of senario, like king diamond (although sounding nothing like KD). But i love them.

JMetallica 07-16-2004 05:28 AM

And what the hell frail!? Change your avatar back. The Olsen twins are much more pleasing to the eye than ace. :p

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-16-2004 03:06 PM

haha, yeah...i like to change things up accoding to the mood. if you saw my bedroom youd have enough Olsen photos to last a lifetime, i have well over a thousand photos of them haha.

PS: thanks for the Grave Digger info, im going to look into them!!! :)

Skeksis 07-16-2004 04:06 PM

Bump. Thanks for the Helloween songs, I'll check them out along with Iced Earth and Blind Guardian :) (I'm most into newer Power Metal). Then we can have our discussion Frail, and yeah, I almost missed you with your new avatar :P

Is Heavy Metal Breakdown rare? And I need to get into some Running Wild. I heard that they have this pirate metal thing going on.

RideTheSpiral 07-17-2004 12:10 AM

I saw a bit of gravedigger at the store yesterday but unforuntaly I have 10c in my bankaccount. :upset:

Oh well when I get paid on Thursday I'll probably buy about five CD's.

So far I have:

Rhapsody - The Dark Secret DVD CD
Ayreon - The Human Equation (is that what it's called?) CD DVD package
Gravedigger (maybe?!)

Maybe some Dream Evil or Galloglass if I can find it.

Suggestions?

Skeksis 07-17-2004 12:41 AM

I finally listened to Helloween, Blind Guardian and Iced Earth. I'm definitely gonna get flamed for this, but I didn't like them at all. I dare not say they suck because I respect bands and I don't have a band of my own to call better, but their music was boring.

RideTheSpiral 07-17-2004 12:46 AM

Blind Guardian will probably grow on you.

I'm not a huge Strat fan although they have some awesome songs.

I only have one Helloween album. I like it but I'm not in a huge rush to buy more.

That's a shame. Did you download Helloween - Halloween OR Helloween - DR. Stein? Those would have to be amoung the most fun songs in the world. :D

RideTheSpiral 07-17-2004 01:16 AM

Rise and Fall.

Hitroshimite 07-17-2004 01:47 AM

Heavy Metal Hamsters :)

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-17-2004 02:08 AM
Rise and Fall.
darn right!!

"a little dragon could spit fire" hehe

anyone else notice that in "rise and fall" when Michael says "he couldnt get it up" (or whatever) he sounds IDENTICAL to Rob Halford!

RideTheSpiral 07-17-2004 02:11 AM

Yeah I did notice that.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-17-2004 02:29 AM

anyone into Pagens Mind?

Kingofdudes 07-17-2004 02:26 PM

hey quick question, im starting to get into power metal and im thinking about buying a blind guardian album. What album would you guys recommend?

RideTheSpiral 07-17-2004 06:27 PM

Buy Nightfall in Middle-earth first. Then buy A Night at the Opera.

Hitroshimite 07-17-2004 07:36 PM

A Night at the Opera isn't good for begginers. Go with 'Somewhere Far Beyond' instead.

Kingofdudes 07-17-2004 08:43 PM

i dunno I might like A Night at the Opera, I listen to Children of Bodom, and whatever dragonforce, stratovarius, Helloween I can find on Rhapsody. Thanks for the suggestions. Just hope I can find them in a local store(not likely now that im in Mississippi :( )

Hitroshimite 07-17-2004 08:45 PM

Yea, get 'Somewhere Far Beyond then'. Somewhere Far Beyond is more thrashy, while A Night at the Opera sounds less like a metal album and more like an Opera with drums.

JMetallica 07-17-2004 10:38 PM

For First Blind Guardian CD you should get Imaginations From The Other Side. It showcases BG at their most outstanding and unadulted.

RideTheSpiral 07-18-2004 12:26 AM

I don't have enough BG cd's and their one of my favourite bands. :(

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-18-2004 02:22 AM

i like A night at the opera best, but my first into to BG was nightfall in middle earth which i think is the best cd to start off with when getting into power metal.

Brew 07-18-2004 01:47 PM

When I was in France I picked up some power metal cd's because I found a shop that sold them quite cheap.

I got:

Iced Earth - Dark Saga
Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm
Bal-Sagoth - Atlantis Ascendant(I think thats the name of it)
Nightwish - Once
Dream Evil - The Book of Heavy Metal

I'm quite pleased with all of them seeing as I'd only heard around 4songs by each band and I was going off recomendations(sp?) from this thread so I want to say thanks for recomending me these great bands :thumb:
