electronic drumkit
UGH! :upset: I really hope he doesn't mean FULL electronic kit....that would suck. |
Natural drums are always going to be better, but electronic drumkit could mean a massive amount of sounds. Plus anything with the word 'epic' is a soft spot for me.
|
What? If something sets a paradigm, a standard that I believe to be the definition of heavy, and another band doesn't meet it, then, by the standards of the other band, I think they are not heavy. It's not a hard string of logic to follow :\
That's more like it. If you're going to base these things on a standard YOU define, it isn't fact. Even at that it's kind of harsh to take the elite of heavy or guitar playing and saying anything under that isn't heavy/good. |

So why even attack me on it in the first place? By the logic you just stated, while I can't necessarily prove my statement to be fact, there is no way in hell you can tell me that it's wrong, either. I just used Joe and John as an example as an example to show the humongous gap between the elite and Metallica. I could list alot more guitarists that are better thank Kirk and James, but why bother if I can just two of the top and get my point across? |
Otherside, while I do mostly agree with you, Metallica are part of a genre of music called heavy metal (Or most of their back catalogue is, anyway). This means that the style of music they play is heavy compared to the rest of music as a whole. This is an accepted fact by the majority of people, and while they may not be heavy within their genre, or compared to other genres; they ARE a heavy band.
(Yeah, I know they're been more specifically thrash, and at other times just hard rock) |

Danny already has a massive amount of sounds. His current setup with acoustic drums combined with electronic triggers is great. I'm with you on the epic part, though. |
A more massive amount of sounds is always better than a massive amount of sounds, though.
Yes, I am American. |
A more massive amount of sounds is always better than a massive amount of sounds, though.
Yes, I am American.
 Nice one. But, yeah, this album sounds great. Woke up this morning thinking about it, actually. I'm looking forward to my brain being sonically massaged by this release. |

Any Australians who post here, these are the current rumoured tour dates. I don't have an actual source though, it's just something I saw on another forum. Hopefully someone can confirm it.
Tue August 08 - Entertainment Centre - Brisbane - Australia Thu August 10 - SuperDome - Sydney - Australia Sat August 12 - Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne - Australia Mon August 14 - Entertainment Centre - Adelaide - Australia
Man I hope it's for real. |

Please god,let that be true. |
It's on Toolshed, but it's marked as rumoured only. I guess will find out something concrete soon if it's true.
/listened to Lateralus the other. It's not as godly as I remembered it, but it was enough to arouse my interests again. |

I never said my standard was better at all. In fact, I wouldn't say there is a "standard" in my opinion. There's certain factors of guitar playing I like to see in my guitar players before I say they are good or bad. James and Kirk have those certain things. I never said they were outstanding, I never said they were necessarily better than anyone else, because those things don't matter. What matters to me is that they can pick up their guitar, write some good lines and play them well. I'm not going to dismiss them as good players simply because better ones exist. |
Man, I hope this doesn't happen when Tool's touring this time around.

case in point otherside, they both are WAY better then you at guitar, hence you should really talk LESS sh!t :thumb:
I'll give you a hint: it'll start with an 'r' and end with a "EALLY ****ING BAD."
I bet it will be pretty good actually. They have already said that its going to be more like their older ****. What they need to do if they want to make a good album is go back to getting ****ed up, fighting with each other, and sticking to their own intruments. |

Thanks. Do you just have to submit a recording of a solo? Why is your avatar so small now?

I doubt it. That was what they said about the last record.....I remember there being a ton of hype going into it. Bands that try to "return to their old sound" rarely if ever succeed. Music is about evolution and expansion...case in point: Tool. |
I doubt it. That was what they said about the last record.....I remember there being a ton of hype going into it. Bands that try to "return to their old sound" rarely if ever succeed. Some argue Aenima was better (like me) but others think Lateralus is, either way I love both albums though and the reason I love Tool is large in part to them making, say, a Lateralus even thought it's not my favorite album. Even though I like Aenima more as an album - I think Lateralus has an evolved song structure. |

I see them as sub-par and boring, you don't. The thing is, you were the one who started this string of arguments, with the whole "omg how can u say metallica arnt heavy and good guitar players", which upon giving my reasoning you go "omg but thats just opinion and you cant prove that". So I don't get what your trying to prove here, that the argument you brought up has no relavence? Ok.
case in point otherside, they both are WAY better then you at guitar, hence you should really talk LESS sh!t
Well I guess if I actually played guitar that would mean something to me, but it really doesn't. You don't have to be superior to be a critic, and you have never had to. |
Guys, please take it to the Metallica thread.
Anyways, I hear Tool's coming out with a new record.. |
Yah, I'm done with that argument anyways, nothing good has come out of it, just a bunch of flame wars.
Sorry it had to clutter up this thread. And no new Tool record, it's just Maynard burping for around 70 minutes. Of course, we'll all buy it. |
I know I will. Wouldn't that be funny if they put 81st Chakra on the album as a bonus track or something? That'd be great... thought it would probably ruin the album.
|
Moses, you guys have a cool sound.
