I'm beginning to think that Arcturus are the non Black metaller's black metal band. I'm not saying that you guys aren't hXc fans of BM or anything, but it's just that it seems like everyone likes Arcturus nowadays, including myself. :)

Arcturus seem to be more Avante-Garde than BM. I don't know, I love them because there's simply nothing else like them, and their music is nice and dark.

Well, Black metal might just be my favourite genre, so I don't apply.

But this might explain something: They're not black metal, except on their first album. They went all crazy avant garde after that, unless you're a fan of the first album?

Well, meh, I personally don't consider "avant garde" a real genre. I treat it the same way as "math" and "prog." You can't just have an avant garde, math, or progressive metal band. They're just too broad, really. Sure, avant garde is meant to be a broad term, encompassing basically everything that doesn't have a place anywhere else in musical categorization, but still, just calling a band avant garde metal just seems a bit vague. I would consider Arcturus some sort of avant garde black metal, I guess, so there you have it. :p

So is it possible to have avant garde thrash metal...and avant garde black metal etc etc? I'm asking no one in particular, I just want some opinions.

Personally...I think the term avant garde is used waaay too loosely. It's losing it's meaning.

I don't see why not. Personally, avant garde is just a term that means "without boundaries," so if the music is out there [I]that[/I] much, it could be called avant garde. :shrug:

I think Thrash Metal is a genre that is too specifically categorized to truly have avant gardenism (?) in it.

I still think Avant Garde is a genre, or at least a good term to describe certain things. Even art or film can be considered avant garde.

To answer your question: nah, I don't think so. A lot of people write rock articles, it's just that no one reads them. I wrote a Bob Seger article awhile back and I had to bump it all the time. It didn't even officially make it to a second page :(.

There's always talk of dividing rock and metal into two separate forums, but I think it would just kill both of them, to be honest.

Also, the fact that R&M are one subforum has opened me up to an innumerable amount of metal bands, like Arcturus, since we were talking about them. I really think my musical tastes would differ greatly if R&M were seperate sections.

Yeah, I'd have never gotten turned on to so much cool metal music if this weren't a single forum. I'd be heading the way of bands like Fuel, Breaking Benjamin, and that sort of good but mediocre stuff.

For me, I'd be stuck listening to System of a Down and Linkin Park. Not terrible bands, but just not the best either.

Speaking of System of a Down- I am so mad that Question! is their new single. :( It's one of my favorite SOAD songs, and now I'm going to be forced to hear it a million times, making me want to never hear it again. I could just not listen to the radio, but it honestly helps my long days driving truck go a bit faster. :p

I'm allowed to disagree with Jom on occaision, as harshly as it may happen. But I still consider us friends. Another thing I agree with Jom on is that it's stupid to hold grudges, especially internet ones. I'll only be mad at him as long as he's pissing me off. :D

Really, I didn't know the "I hate Jim" vibes were coming off so strong besides my two blow-ups (which I'm still not entirely sure were unjustified either :p). I don't intend for that to be the case.

It's like we never get a say in what happens in here. I mean it's not like I hate Metal heads because I really respect some of you guys but our threads die quick and we only have 4 threads that regularly stay on the first page. It just gets annoying when a Rock write up can stay on the first page for 5 min and Metal one could stay up for days. It's not like Alt & Indie counts for all of Rock. Metal is a more dominant genre here, but I definitely think it's better as is. I've learned about more new bands as it is than I would otherwise. I wish Punk and Pop-Punk weren't split up...although the Punk kids aren't too nice so maybe not.
