It stands for National Collegiate Athletic Association. Universities are divided regions, and by size of school. 1-A is where the big dogs are. 1-AA are smaller schools/schools with new football programs.

Why not 1-B? And are conferences the name for divisions? And why are they called conferences then? Ah forget it, your crazy sports just confuse me.
