American Music Club

Currently digging Patti Smith's Radio Ethiopia. I gave the new Ted Leo a spin. Didn't really hold my attention. Seems like there are some cool songs, but I dunno. Felt the same about Shake the Sheets save for "Me and Mia" which is kinda undeniable. I'm sure dei hates it.

Radio Ethiopia is good stuff, though. The middle ground between Horses and Easter. First side can't match up the the brilliance of the second, though. "Pumping (My Heart)" -> "Distant Fingers" -> "Radio Ethiopia" is such a fantastic little trinity. I really want this album on CD but I think it's oop or something. Gonna listen to Gavin Bryar's Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet.

Or maybe at least all that's worth listening to. Listen to their influences. I dunno, a lot of this sadsack shit ain't really my bag.

I was doing the compare to allmusic thing and now all of a sudden, I'm listening to Bone Thugs.

Taylor Deupree - Northern
Minimalist electronic-wash from label head of 12K. Pretty great. Just ordered a few other releases from the label, pretty excited to hear them.

The Antique 03-01-2007 01:20 AM

Cynic - Focus

To think people made this is just ridiculous. It is so out of control how talented the members of this band were.

ATM 03-01-2007 09:51 AM

Nope, what/who is that?

Listening to some random stuff. Right now it's The Easybeats "Friday on My Mind."

ATM 03-01-2007 05:59 PM

It's some weirdo folk, you'd enjoy it I'm sure.

Eliminator 03-01-2007 06:01 PM

Talib Kweli and Madlib - Liberation
Pelican - City of Echoes
Unwound- Leaves Turn Inside You
Brilliant. I would give it all up to have been able to see them in their prime, and the few unwound videos on youtube are pretty crap. Off This Century is my favorite song on that album. Have you heard any of their other albums?

Codeine

The Jungler 03-01-2007 06:31 PM

Madvillain - Madvillainy
Circle Takes the Square - As the Roots Undo.

Just got the latter, but have already listened to it three times. The former I listened to a while ago, but didn't really like because it was too long. I like it alot better now.

Yes, I've heard Fake Train and New Plastic Ideas. My favorite off that album is Terminus by far, I love the strings in that middle section. Off This Century is awesome too though.

Bukowski 03-01-2007 07:00 PM

Awesome!
Valentine Card from Fake Train is my favorite Unwound song, and one of my fav songs of all time. Its one of the few Unwound songs on youtube as well, a live video where Justin screams for the whole song, its pretty weird.

If you haven't heard Repetition, I highly recommend that.
But kudos for liking Unwound :)

Glitterati 03-01-2007 07:45 PM

Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

Montana 03-01-2007 07:47 PM

Devendra Banhart
Prince - Purple Rain

I really like Devendra Banhart's voice.

Eliminator 03-01-2007 07:50 PM

I like his vibrato.

Kayetan 03-01-2007 08:32 PM

I like it when people are really amazed by someone's voice the first time they hear it. I showed Devendra Banhart to this girl once, and she was all happy and thought his voice was really awesome. It probably felt good for her.
