I usually listen to music while reading a book in bed. American Beauty and Skulls & Roses work well.
Psh, who reads books? Nerd.

/reads books.

MalcolmYoungRock 05-05-2005 08:07 PM

Yeah, but the oldies section is still under construction.

:(
When I was a freshman and had easy homework I could do that (not saying that your homework is easy, just how it was for me). Now my homework is usually hard and thought consuming.

Listening to music in a dark room by yourself (when you're in bed) really brings out the best in it, I think. Albums like The Wall are made much better. And like Wanton said, you can really focus on just the music and not think about much else.
I've done that with DSOTM many a time.

Right now I'm reading The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. It's awesome, and he mentions the Dead several times.

PinkFreud 05-05-2005 08:08 PM

i usually get to into the music to fall asleep to it. even stuff like simon and garfunkle. i'll start singing it and begin to get even more awake.

great book. id recommend the pumphouse gang by wolfe as well.

also, if you like weird, humorous writers, try neal pollack. hes only got 2 books, never mind the pollacks , and the neal pollack literature anthology (not too sure on the title of that one but im too lazy to go up and get it). theyre both great. the first is a rock novel where hes the main character and encounters many stars and begins many careers. the bands mentioned are like the minutemen, iggy and the stooges, the sex pistols, stuff like that. the latter book is a collection of short stories by him. hes very egotistical but it makes for some hilarious reading.

SPeaking of Acid, I almost got kicked out of class for saying that there is no negative long term effects of Acid.

flashbacks. it stays in your spinal cord.

ledpoisoning27 05-05-2005 08:20 PM

that fades away after 1-3 months which isn't long term.

How long ago did they do acid, and are they lying about how long.
that fades away after 1-3 months which isn't long term.
No, it stays with you.

But if it means anything to you, flashbacks aren't that big of a deal. You could have a flashback after usage of marijuana actually.

ledpoisoning27 05-05-2005 09:00 PM

well, after i smoked some pot with soaked in acid, flashbacks for me were only the frist 2 months and I'm going off a website, with some other info.

cool. call me in about 15 years then, when you crack your neck while driving and crash. have fun though. should be pretty trippy. you know, before the death.

thickasabrick 05-05-2005 10:15 PM

First of all...you guys have some things mixed up. LSD can stay in your body for a fairly short (months) period of time, and it can "leak" out and cause you a minor trip.

Real flashbacks are a result of any tramautic/overly emotional experience. People can have flashbacks from being raped, being in a car crash, being on acid, and basically anything. edit- and it doesn't have to be something bad

Plus flashbacks actually aren't like totally common, not everyone who does acid has flashbacks, although the more acid you do increases the odds. And hey....who could turn down a free acid trip (unless you are in the wrong place at the wrong time)

Seafroggys 05-05-2005 11:01 PM

Why, I think I'm the only clean one in this thread. Clean for life....no clue what I'll do if I get the chance, but whatever.

LSD is the ****snizzle. Imagine what type of songs I'd write after some of that.

lunch998 05-06-2005 12:59 PM

I though we weren't the drug thread anymore?

Flash backs are the least of my worries about LSD. Losing my mind is the one that scares me the most. There are people in my family who have had mental illness brought out by LSD. Nothing real bad, but you never know. Besides you get the same effect of LSD with salvia mixed with a lot of weed.

It's inevitable that the topic will be brought up eventually. I don't mind.

I don't either, but some people have complained about it in the past.

Yeah I mean in all honesty its not really that off topic of classic rock. While not all people who listen to classic rock take drugs, you can't ignore that its part of the classic rock culture.

TheDMV 05-06-2005 01:44 PM

Yeah, plenty of Classic Rock fans aren't druggies, but almost all classic rock artists are.

neither did ted nugent. he hasnt even drank.

TheDMV 05-06-2005 03:42 PM

Frank Zappa's one of those people who I would never be able to tell if he was on drugs or not. Something about his wacky personality, I guess.

He's borderline classic rock, but Nugent didn't do any drugs either.

EDIT: Woah, normally I would say great minds think alike, but I'm thinkin this one is more of a dull minds occaisonally come up with ideas similiar to that of great ones.

Linkzone1 05-06-2005 04:26 PM

Same with Jimmy Page

Jam2Me 05-06-2005 04:37 PM

Jimmy did heroin. And acid has permanent effects, not my drug of choice.

gijoe467 05-06-2005 04:46 PM

Did Bonzo do anything but drink?

JonG 05-06-2005 04:47 PM

LSD

Nugent is just weird.

TheDMV 05-06-2005 04:49 PM

Also, I'm pretty sure JPJ was clean. That's more than can be said for all the other Zep members, I beleive.

Does anyone feel that Mitch Mitchell and Phil Rudd were underrated for their drumming talents?

Well when you are in a band with Hendrix, you aren't going to be noticed much. :)
Does anyone feel that Mitch Mitchell and Phil Rudd were underrated for their drumming talents?
I think Mitchel was more talented than Redding, at least.

I tried to teach my dog to find weed, but he ate it. :upset:
Does anyone feel that Mitch Mitchell and Phil Rudd were underrated for their drumming talents?
Mitch Mitchell isn't very underrated in the drumming community. He's a great drummer...most people know that.

I haven't heard anything impressive by Phil Rudd though, I think he played the same beat/rhythm (whatever the drum term is) for every song...with a few different fills. I could be wrong though, I don't know a whole lot about drumming.

thickasabrick 05-06-2005 05:50 PM
I wonder if any Classic Rock artists didnt do drugs?

Ian Anderson (Tull) wasn't into drugs. I'm sure he tried them, but I'm fairly sure he didn't enjoy using drugs.

Yea, in fact, Zappa hated hippies.
