I don't belive so i think they are named similar but most probably sound different

FL3P 02-24-2006 07:26 AM
Simple question. Are Zildjian K Special K/Z Hi-Hats and the K/Z Dyno-Beat Hi-Hats the same things just with different names?
Actually I think that is just two different ways of wording it depending on what series you are focusing on.

Time 02-24-2006 07:35 PM

What do you people think of K Custom Session Rides?

HeLLmO 02-24-2006 09:14 PM

they're pretty damn good

Drummer Freak 911 02-25-2006 05:18 PM

Decent Sabian, wuhang, or zildjian crash and ride cymbals.
The ride and crash cymbals together under $230?

HeLLmO 02-25-2006 05:55 PM

look into sabian AA and AAX on massmusic, i'm not sure if u can get them both for $230, but i think u can get close. look at AA medium crashes, AAX stage and AAXplosion crashes, and for rides, AA has so many sick rides u should just go to www.sabian.com and listen to all the sound clips

Drummer Freak 911 02-25-2006 06:21 PM

opinions on Sabian B8s?

aznriceball 02-25-2006 07:06 PM

eh, budget cymbals. not great, not tooo bad. but easily owned by wuhans, pro sonix, etc

HeLLmO 02-25-2006 08:47 PM

yea, pro sonix may be worth a look, they are cheaper than AA/AAX, and they are still good cymbals

Drummer Freak 911 02-25-2006 09:54 PM

I'm liking the Sabian XS20 cymbals

Cocaberry 02-26-2006 06:19 AM
I'm liking the Sabian XS20 cymbals
I used to like them too. Then I upgraded to AAs/AAXs and realised why buying XS20s was a mistake.

HeLLmO 02-26-2006 07:28 AM

get either Pro Sonix or AA/AAX, don't bother with anything below that

Thrashmother 02-26-2006 12:29 PM

Know about a ride that canbe used for metal and punk? I was thinking gud quality, price not an issue. Cheers

HeLLmO 02-26-2006 01:09 PM

look into some of the Zildjian A and A custom rides, then look at sabian AA/AAX and HHX rides. then maybe paiste 2oo2

Tim 02-26-2006 06:12 PM
Know about a ride that canbe used for metal and punk? I was thinking gud quality, price not an issue. Cheers
AA rock ride, AAX metal ride (dont be confused with the aa metal x. ) zildjian A ping ride.

Icky_Mettle 02-26-2006 07:14 PM

How are 16'' A Custom fast crashes? I'm getting my set and thinking about bidding on this, looks incredibly sexy

By the way, I wanna play rock and jazz....well, I guess I want a versatile crash. is that a good one?

HeLLmO 02-26-2006 07:30 PM

it will definatly work for rock, and probably for jazz too

bobby__johnny 02-26-2006 09:18 PM

i'd say AA Medium-heavy ride

Drum Phil 02-27-2006 04:38 AM

Any heavy ride.

Time 02-27-2006 12:26 PM

I want to get a K Custom ride, but I can't decide on one. Which is the best? I play rock and lots of other stuff. Also, how is the A custom ping ride?

aznriceball 02-27-2006 01:17 PM

the a custom is gonna be very mashy and pingy! bright at its best, but you'll have to try them out. i wouldnt say a K custom right now for rock, but you might like some of the a rock rides

mullets suk 02-27-2006 04:16 PM

hey guys im lookin for a new cymbal, in the prics range of 150$ more or less (preferberly less) and i was lookin for something loud, low and somethin that can sustain for a good period of time. i have a zbt ride cymbal i may end up using for a crash, cause i want to get a jazz ride (or at lest a light weight ride) the problem with the zbt is that it seems to low, but yea.

if ur wonderin (which u airnt) im usin a planet z HH, zbt HH, and a zbt crash as crash cymbals, so i just want one low soundin crash (also no splashes)

thaks

ok, well if you want something loud go for Sabian AA rock crash, but you can probably find an A Custom crash that'll also do the trick, the AA rock crash is probably cheaper. If you're a brand fanboy, you could go either way....not sure about a paiste in that price level.

Try a Sabian AA medium crash out, there pretty loud with the right technique. :thumb:

hi all,

well ive been saving up for quite a bit now and within the coming months i'll be able to buy around 6-7 cymbals depending on what i decide on. anyways the one thing ive been hardest stuck on deciding with is what ride would i like or fit my style. i do play with bands and i lean in to many directions to decide. i play progressive/post-hardcore/hardcore/experimental(some metal i guess). but i love ride with a nice ping and especially when playing accents on the bell. but to better suit the style, what would you recommend me that has a nice bell tone yet i can crash on just very lightly on and sound good? thanks alot in advance.

FL3P 02-27-2006 09:25 PM

*cough* A Custom Medium ride *cough*

HeLLmO 02-28-2006 05:38 AM

most Zildjian A rides have good crashes. i know sabian AAX stage rides(especially the 21'' version) have good crashes, but their bells aren't amazing.

The Z Custom Thrash Ride fits that description, but Z customs are frowned apon.

WilliaMega 02-28-2006 10:08 AM

Can someone tell me what, control means when referering to cymbals, as well as dry, warm and washy

barttange 02-28-2006 01:01 PM

washy --> shjshjshjshj sound
warm --> sonore sound with some sustain
dry --> it can have sustain as long as the tick itself doens't

It sucks explaining this, help me!

aznriceball 02-28-2006 01:34 PM
The Z Custom Thrash Ride fits that description, but Z customs are frowned apon.
I would hardly call it fitting of the description unless you go to the realllly far end of the spectrum in sqagglyness. Have you even tried this ride?

to sant: i would try out a 20" a medium ride, and from there decide what you like. if its too washy, I'd lean towards something like an AA rock ride or a ping ride, or if its too pingy, fall back towards an aax stage ride or an a sweet ride. best tool = try out! and bring a buddy

santi3hg 02-28-2006 08:56 PM

yeah i got my friend to come along, thanks alot ill come back to say my thoughts.

Drum Phil 03-01-2006 05:57 AM

Alright i have a couple of challenges for y'all.

My setups pretty much sorted but i wanna know your ideas for the 2 cymbals im having most trouble with.

Find me the following cymbals :D

A 22" ride with some was, a nice definitive ping and an incredible bell. Some nice controlled overtones but not to the point where it drowns the ping. Preferably heavy.

An 18-22" china. Fiery, explosive attack with some tasteful dark, trashyness and a quick decay.

Preferably sabian, zildjian + paiste considered. Nothing else is easy to get in the UK.

My current ideas are:

22" HH Rock ride
21" Tritop ride

18" HHX China
19" Devastation china
20" Jia china

Aaron 03-01-2006 06:18 AM

22" Paragon Ride and 18" HHX China.
22" K Heavy Ride and 19" K China.

Any of the above two rides with an 18" or 20" Wuhan China.
I also would rate the Paragon Chinas.

Drum Phil 03-01-2006 06:21 AM

Paragon rides a no no, cause i'll be having one of those on my second kit and its not really the sound im after for a main ride. Its not got enough wash.

Wuhans are also no no's cause they're expensive here

Aaron 03-01-2006 06:22 AM

What about the BM Staggs, I heard one ride thats was nice.

Drum Phil 03-01-2006 06:24 AM

Not when you're looking to get the best you can. That K chinas horrible man :|

Aaron 03-01-2006 06:25 AM

i reckon its good as an aux ride. i still say K Heavy and Wuhan.

TTTSNB 03-01-2006 08:27 AM

Could you guys reccomend a good set of jazz hats? Also, a larger ride to compliment my K Custom 20" Dry Ride.

Drum Phil 03-01-2006 12:33 PM

HHX Groove hats? HHX Manhattan Hats? HHX Legacy hats? K Custom Hybrid hats?

Ride.... 22" HH Rock ride? 21" Tri-top ride? 21" HH Raw bell dry ride?
