find one immediately and follow my routine. trust me.
|
make time for your body. You only get one, you need to make sure its in perfect working order: strong, durable, and fit.
imo school and work comes second to making sure my fitness level is maintained. |

But now that I have a month off, it gives me time to get into a solid and consistent routine. There's a 24-hour fitness a couple miles away I'll have to check out later this week. Anything you recommend when picking out a gym? Especially given that I wont have a workout buddy, should I look for something with more machines to replace the buddy? I refuse to bench without a spotter. |
I dont do freeweight bench press I use the bench incline on the shoulder press machine. You don't need a spotter for that. Other than that any gym will have what you need.

Okay, so look for an incline press machine. Cool. So, Why is it so incredibly hot outside right now? |
I, too, need to start working out again.

Big Sri Lankan protests these last few days. It's crazy.

Man, they've been going on here for the last 3-4 weeks.

Well, it's been like that on and off. Last week they were ridiculous, yesterday they blocked the highway for 6 hours or something. Yesterday there was a big one outside my work. I heard that there were 100-200 cops there, not all out guarding, but waiting in the back of the building in case things got hairy. |

I find I'm able to push harder w/out a spot, besides it's kinda weird having somebody staring down at you. I'd say stay away from machines if you are trying to bulk up. If you plan on circuit training like a chick by all means hop on the yes-no machine :thumb: . There are some useful machines like the pulleys they usually have on the sides of the pull up/chin up bar things. Machines are good if you want to focus on a specific muscle, but honestly you can accomplish a lot more with free weights in less time. Almost anyone will gladly spot you if you ask. Machines don't make you work hard enough, and a lot your supporting muscles are neglected. |

Fair enough, that's another thing I'll look for. I'd rather have a spotter encouraging to push and go that extra mile than the alternative... |
No, it is kind of weird. Lately I've been going to the gym by myself more than with my room-mate and his girlfriend because having them sit around watch me strain is weird as ****.
Started benching 230 today. werd. and my girlfriend and me broke up. now we're just best friends, still living together, sleeping together, etc. but we also get to **** other people. lol, i love my life. and by sleeping together i mean just that we dont have sex anymore |

Cept we had just signed our 1 year long lease a the day before the break up...go figure :/ It's cool that you guys were mature about it and just cut your losses. Instead of waiting two years and ending it violently. :smash: Haha I didn't care either at the time, but she did. I don't think i'd like a tape of it though.. Edit: I now understand your exercise regime...Bulking up for the ladies amirite? (knows that you do it for your body's sake) |

Haha just googled Henry Rollins, and yes, he's ripped as. And usually shirtless.
I'd fix the eye brows too, he kinda looks like Colin Farrell. So between working out, writing music and painting 40k models, when do you find time for university? :p |
Man. I come back for two seconds and Raayl is breaking the website with his bigass Warhammer figurines.

TB is the best place to sell gear, good God. My Conklin hasn't even been up for 24 hours and I've had two messages about it. It's been on craigslist for 4 months with nothing but spam/scam responses and a guy who wanted to trade it for studio time. |

And if possible, when running - don't jog. The best kind of cardio exercise is what is known as "high intensity interval training." It is what I do, when I do cardio. Here is an example of how it works: Run for 1 minute at 8 mph. Walk for 1 minute at 3 mph. Run at 1 minute 30 seconds at 9 mph. Walk for 1 minute at 3 mph. Run for 2 minutes at 10 mph etc, etc. Do it for about five minutes, then you're done. Your body will be dead. It's a good way to end a mild lifting workout.[/quote] I'll be doing this today after work for sure. So, if I do mild lifting, I should counter it with heavy cardio? And vice versa (jogging w/ hard lifting)? |
The same way I find time between running daily, looking after my pets, working 25+ hours a week and playing in a band (whilst at uni).
There are many hours in a day. @joels quote |

The most important part IS the lifting. The cardio is just a way to let your body expend the rest of its energy so you have a better resting period. |
Oh look, pictures from my last jam:

Lots of carbs -> weights -> cardio -> prooooteeeiiiinnnn IMO the most balanced full workout. |

I don't think any two people agree on anything when it comes to fitness. Even stretching, when to do it, how much, before and/or after is debated. 5-10 minutes of cardio is pretty much useless IMO, you want to go for at least 20 or not bother at all. |
