no my suggestion was better
Can anyone recommend me a metalcore/screamo/*core band that will get me into the genre? I've been trying pretty hard to get into something, but the dissonance and chaotic-ness of it just turns me away.

I listen mostly to traditional/power/old school death and I'm trying to diversify but I just can't. Keep in mind I listened to Jane Doe and couldn't get into at all.

EDIT: really meant to put that in the suggestions thread...
you and i-the curtain falls

Danger Zone 04-29-2009 09:12 PM

Thanks guys, I'll give them a listen.

Drive Like Jehu - Drive Like Jehu

rasputin 04-30-2009 12:40 AM
that's probably one the best albums to get into the genre with for anyone who likes prog-related stuff
i'd simply just say it's one of the best albums IN the genre
i'd simply just say it's one of the best albums IN the genre
what album is that? i cant find what you quoted in the past 10 pages idk

rasputin 04-30-2009 01:03 AM

from the post above the one i quoted, Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 01:09 AM

okay ctrl+f is failing me

gospel is mad overrated though

paper tygon is the only song that really stands out

rasputin 04-30-2009 01:10 AM

well, i'd agree with you that they're rated very highly, but i think with good reason

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 01:20 AM

i like them, dont get me wrong

but theyre nowhere near as good as a lot of stuff in the genre idk

DBlitz 04-30-2009 01:52 AM

they're one of my favourites, i guess my favourites seem to be the more accessible ones

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 02:03 AM

my top 5 would be like

orchid
sed non satiata
score one for safety
envy
love lost but not forgotten

DBlitz 04-30-2009 02:08 AM

sed non satiata
gospel
circle takes the square
kidcrash
off minor

christsimpson 04-30-2009 02:09 AM

anyone say skramz?

Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson
Make It A Dead One
rest of my life (first album)
Swing Kids
Saetia

(could add three hundred more because all screamo is good)

DBlitz 04-30-2009 02:17 AM

only heard saetia from that

christsimpson 04-30-2009 02:20 AM

how can you not have heard Swing Kids? they are maybe the band that perfected the screamo sound. you need to hear them. YPoFH and roml can be downloaded for free from http://thatspunk.linustorvaldsfacts.com/. be sure to get the *first* roml album though (s/t). the others are not very screamo. that is, if you are interested in hearing them at all, of course. hah.

DBlitz 04-30-2009 02:35 AM

i'll check 'em out

that site needs a search function though, i don't want to go through "really noisy emo" "not that noisy emo" "noisy emo" "quiet emo" etc

christsimpson 04-30-2009 02:37 AM

ctrl+f

roml is on noisy. ypofh is on progressive/epic or whatever the category is called.

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 02:39 AM
sed non satiata
gospel
circle takes the square
kidcrash
off minor
kidcrash and off minor arent that good, why the hell is everyone so into them?

DBlitz 04-30-2009 03:01 AM

dunno i just really like that style, those two and gospel are pretty similar.

i used to be really into hot cross as well, they slightly grew off me though.

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 03:03 AM

hot cross and circle takes the square were the bands that got me into the style... i like them, but i really overlistened them i guess.

fair trades and farewells is so ****ing good though, seriously.

solanka is my ****ing jam.

DBlitz 04-30-2009 03:08 AM

better a corpse than a nun

and yea ctts and hot cross got me into screamo too, i still listen to as the roots undo at least once a week. took me a while for them to click, but when they did i kinda listened to it non-stop.

edit: now i feel like having an emo binge/marathon

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 03:09 AM

as soon as i heard a crater to cough in i was hooked on ctts

then as soon as i heard orchid i stopped listening to them pretty much

DBlitz 04-30-2009 03:11 AM

i have chaos is me and dance tonight!, i like them but don't listen to orchid that often.

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 03:14 AM

sounds like you need gatefold and totality

seriously, idk, i really really like orchid

i mean, look at my avatar, jay greene is an epic mother****er

there isnt even a stage in that pic, hes ****ing levitating

hismajestythepope 04-30-2009 03:18 AM

Also, dug through my basement tonight, found my ****ing copy of Oh My God, It's Full Of Stars.

Snack Man would be proud.

DBlitz 04-30-2009 03:19 AM

yea i might as well get those two albums

and are the other sed non satiata splits worthwhile? i love "Le Ciel De Notre Enfance" and enjoy the daitro split
