Watching LAP made me like "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" even more. And I already really liked it.

Ephemeral 08-16-2006 11:27 PM
I watched it again last night

It's so cool watching how they do all that stuff. And the cool sweater I was talking about is when Rick is playing Us & Them on the piano.
Oh rub it in, why don't you?

LAP has such an atmosphere around it. I mean, it's just so cool.

When they pull out songs like Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, and Careful With That Axe Eugene it just completes the atmospher. It's eery to watch.. but you love every moment of it. Also the fact that they are playing in an ancient colloceum with no one around for miles adds to the effect. The idea is just brilliant.

Danger Bird 08-17-2006 02:16 AM

Careful With That Axe, Eugene is my favorite Floyd song.

Riva 08-17-2006 04:03 AM

Point Me At The Sky has really grown on me lately.

And I'm glad Syd survived till 2005.

Jim 08-21-2006 04:39 AM

Nudge, nudge.

C'mon people!

So what's everyone's fav floyd song lyrically???

I'd probably say either Jugband Blues, Two Suns in the Sunset, Have a Cigar, Dogs or Waiting For the Worms.

Don't disappoint me now, ya' hear.

711 08-21-2006 09:47 AM

Lyrically? Hmm... there are several... here are a few

-Time (also my favorite song ever)
-Mother
-Goodbye Blue Sky
-Dogs
-If
-Brain Damage
-Wish you were Here

To name a few.

EDIT: Damn, forgot wywh.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-21-2006 09:58 AM

I got Wish You Were Here from the library today

I'm liking it alot.

711 08-21-2006 10:02 AM

Nice :thumb: One of my favorite albums ever :)

Clunge 08-21-2006 10:04 AM

These lyrics from Time:

'And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death'

They just make my head melt everytime I hear that bit, the way it's sung and everything.

Just too good.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-21-2006 10:06 AM

That is a fine section indeed.

Clunge 08-21-2006 10:07 AM

:goosebumps:

I'm going on my daily 27 minute 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' binge in a sec, after Time...

I love that part, but I love the next part even more.

Time is such an amazing song. Actually, the majority of DSOTM is pretty amazing, although I'm going to have to say that I think On The Run, Money and The Great Gig In The Sky are average songs at best. I just don't enjoy them much.
I got Wish You Were Here from the library today
Man, do just have the best library ever or what? I'm going to have to get a library card.

EDIT: Just thinking about it then, but Time is actually one of my favourite lyrical songs ever. It's brilliant.

DSOTM is an amazing album, but Great Gig is one of my favorites. I like to listen to Time and then let it go into Great Gig In the Sky. It is just so emotional and beautiful to me.

dUSK 08-21-2006 10:36 AM

Yeah, a lot of people really seem to love Great Gig..., so I wasn't going to say I'm not a fan, but I've just never been able to appreciate it. The womans vocals get right to me, but in the the absolute worst way possible. They almost make me cringe in places. Otherwise it's not a bad song, but that one downfall really destroys it for me.

I love the song. I don't mind the vocals in fact I like them, but one of my other favorite parts is the piano. I think Rick really shines on that song.

I got the new Darkthrone there too

Not to metion all the other Pink Floyd I have.

Permanent Solution 08-22-2006 02:30 AM

I got a nice sized Wish You Were Here poster for $5 today at the music shop on clearance :D

Danger Bird 08-22-2006 02:37 AM

My library's great, I got the Minor Threat DVD there.

Jaundice 08-22-2006 02:39 AM

I haven't checked out the library's music section in a while. It's probably because I don't want to walk into the "teen zone" that most of the music is located in.

They had some Radiohead, Oasis, etcetera last time I checked. They also had Iron Maiden's Dance of Death. But that's all the appealing stuff there that I can remember.

BigTrav415 08-22-2006 12:48 PM

My library doesn't have very much music at all, it's pretty much just classical stuff. They do have a lot of books and it's a very nice two-story building. I might just go today and pick up something.

For great rock stuff, the most stuff I've seen at a single site is rockabilia.com, although I've never bought anything from there, they have a crapload of stuff from a lot of bands.

Rockabilia.com is weird you can't really order stuff from it.
but labyrintherock.com is like exactly the same.
I've ordered 5 shirts from there

Yeah I am one of those who love Great Gig In The Sky; I enjoy it so much because of how different it is to almost anything before it.

Yeah those lyrics are just awesome ... Most modern day bands need to take a lesson from Floyd, especially in the lyrics department ...

EDIT: I just bought this shirt off ukrockshop ...

Eh well I think it looks cool :p

I buy my DVD's. I use the library for books and some older albums.

Jim 08-26-2006 05:37 AM

Alright, just a quick unofficial poll to get the thread moving again.

Who do you prefer vocally?

Roger or David?

Discuss.

(I'm a Roger man btw)
'And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking

That's pretty much my favourite lyric ever, Roger rules.

Vocally I think I prefer Dave for his high and airy voice, like on most of The Division Bell album, and bits and peices of Momentary lapse (like Learning to Fly)

Riva 08-26-2006 07:56 AM

Dave rocks on vocals, Roger rocks on lyrics. That's the way I see it.

Jim 08-26-2006 08:11 AM

I obviously think David has a much better singing voice, but I've always liked the really strong character in Roger's. It's full of emotion. I love it when they tag-team too. Like when David sings the first part of Hey You, then Roger screams the final verse in complete desperation.

Tickles me no end!

Riva 08-26-2006 08:13 AM

Or the classic duo in Comfortably Numb.

Dogs is another great example.

Jim 08-26-2006 08:26 AM

And The Thin Ice (I think!). I think it's the same in SOYCD too.

Roger gives a great closer in Eclipse aswell.
