yeah they were better on the US tour then the European tour, which is the DVD that comes with Endless Wire. The DVD that I bought of my show is pretty good, and really shows the difference between actually being at the concert and watching it at home. I was in a practical orgasm at the concert, while watching the DVD is "yeah, its good, and awesome."

Well, of course nothing compares to being there at the live show. Man, I still get excited thinking about how incredible it was.

Sweet. Somebody posted up the Woodstock bootleg of a bunch of songs that I've never seen before from that show (and bits that we've seen on TKAA, but from a different angle). Not that great (seeing as they were all tripping) but its a great epic show.

so far as the DVD, i remember a time not so long ago when The Who were incapable of putting on a listless show such as the one on the DVD. or even if its just the DVD production that is bad the band would come through, just like in all those piss poor bootlegs we watch. they are amazing. no more. now they have "on" nights and "off" nights. before, even an off night would put most other bands to shame. and i'm talking just four or so years ago. no longer. i like Endless Wire, I appreciate the tour, but part of me wishes now they wouldn't have done any of it.

man i don't now how to describe it. i love The Who, but part of me is sad and disappointed about the way they are ending it. or maybe its just the fact that its the end and it shows. i don't know? Rog has gotten so [i]old[/i]. in just a few years. whole different performer, can't swing the mic because of shoulder surgery, Pete has aged as well, his leaping not so high anymore, his guitar not as explosive. they are creaking, the band plays along, and thats The Who. or is it?

please, someone set me straight :(

If anything, Pete is more explosive then he's have been in awhile. I watch stuff from 10-15 years ago (the Quad and Tommy tours) and he's hardly as explosive as he is now.

But I agree with Roger.

I still think they kick ***, but after this they'll degrade to the point of mediocrity. This should be it (then again, that was said in 1982 ;) )

Tommy is the most amazing album. Don't ever get the soundtrack to the movie, just get the album.

I saw The Who on the tour 3 days after Entwistle died a couple of years ago. They played MSG to a sold out audience and Pino Palladino did a fantastic job, even with struggling through My Generation. Mad props to Ringo's son for his drumming, but truly there is only one Keith Moon. They played all the classic greats. The only songs they played off Quad were Love Reign o'er Me and 5:15 which was fine with me but I would have loved to hear more.

The most impressive thing to me and to everyone I was with who saw them was how tight they were, as well how they seemed to epitomize that anthem rock band that was almost meant to play huge arenas. Songs like Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again had everyone with goosebumps, and songs like The Kids are Alright and I Can See For Miles blew everyone out of their seats in crazy singalongs. The only bad songs were Eminence Front, but they did Athena too and it was surprisingly amazing. I was upset they didn't play Join Together.

Was it a poor performance of Eminence Front, or do you just not like the song?

I love Eminence Front.

Roger's voice has actually aged very well. Whenever he performs "Real Good Looking Boy" his vocals are great.

they leave a lot of good stuff out of the sets. have for years. not such a big deal with all the new material they include now. unusual even for younger bands, but much else in the set remains the same. they could throw a curve ball in from time to time, but don't. and they have the musicians to do it. but meh...

i saw them at the Hollywood Bowl last month and unfortunately the set list was even tighter because they had lost their longtime keyboard player to an illness in his family. so a tech or two stood in. we got the hits, and the new stuff, Tommy encore. which i am tired of hearing and sounded a little tired on that night.

meh, 'froggys, pete is good still. but i tire of his newfound histrionics with all the excessive hammering and what not. i understand his sound has changed because of his hearing and he is still energetic, but he's also just going through the paces sometimes. understandable as he has been doing this a long time. but for me this end period has just seemed anti-climatic for a band like The Who. i'll get over it. i just feel like i'm starting with the band all over again and i don't know quite what to make of it. or them.

at thanksgiving my brother in laws father was in town. nice guy. mellow, warm, generous. tall, lean, balding, graying, 60 years old. ready for retirement in a few years. we put on a Beatles album and he started to bob his head a little, got into the music. i can see that. but the way he was standing there in his black jeans and shoes for an instant reminded me of Pete. and i tried to imagine him with a guitar strapped on, leaping in the air, windmilling. and i just couldn't get the picture. didn't seem right, didn't really fit. i kind of see pete the same, now. something doesn't quite fit. god bless him, but like i said i hope this is truly the end of "the leaping years" and The Who for pete. time to move on. they have given us much since the return in 1999. but this is it, IMO. and with John gone, as good as Pino is, on stage they suffer for it in sound and energy. i was looking at some stuff with John from 2000 on thewhotour.com and man, he was not to be replaced. he brought so much. meh....i am sad, but i'll work it out.

New album is worst Pete Townshend record ever, however fact is still that Pete is now clearly more inspired about playing live than previous 2000 tours.... that's because of the new songs.... 2000 tour was meaningles bland
tour and Pete has far more energy now than then. Another sad fact is also that Pino sounds far superior than John did because of that disgusting overprocessed sound John ended up using (why on earth he did that !!).

And why the heck people still expect Pete to leap/windmill now, totally pathetic and ridiculous, would much rather see him stop that complately and just play... same with Roger's mic stuff.


But then again, I think Pete should have done solo record/tour, might have been actually GOOD record....
