Nobody can downpick everything. Unless their Green Day or some ****ty emo band. But i think he does do most of Battery while downpicking. At least it looked like he did when he came to town on the SA tour.
I don't expect people to like the same thing. However, it's a fact that there's many better bands and albums out there than Metallica. It doesn't mean you have to like it, but saying Master of Puppets is a way better album than most metal out there, means he hasn't heard much metal.
I can name quite a few bands/albums, off technical skill, that are much better than Metallica/Master of Puppets. Kthx.
You are naive Metallica have sold over 90 million Albums since they've being together so I guess there are alot of people In the world that are likely to disagree with you. Music is not about who's better musicians, who's a better Band. Plus this is a Metallica thread for fans to talk about there music, If you wanna slag them off by insinuating there crap musicians then go do it somewhere else. |

in fairness he was just saying that there are better musicians elsewhere, but it still makes no difference. Everybody knows Metallica aren't 'teh bezt musici@n5 0n teh pl@net' but that really means nothing, they are one of the best group of musicians in terms of the quality of their output....who cares if Kirk can't play at 400 000 000 bps? |

People never learn. I never said they were garbage musicians, although we all know Kirk hasn't written a decent solo in 20 years, because everything else is wah drenched; I did, however, say that you cannot make the claim that Master of Puppets is much better than most metal, because that statement is incredibly naive. Album sales don't mean a thing. Nirvana has sold many, many more albums than Metallica; does that mean Nirvana is good? No. Meanwhile, we have bands like Death or Nevermore who are hardly known outside of metal circles who are 30x better than most of the garbage that's out today in rock/metal (Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Dry Kill Logic, Bury Your Dead, that stuff ring any bells?) I quit posting in this thread, it's turned to **** with the influx of "OMG LOVE METALLICA OR DONT POST HERE OMGOMGOMG." When did the memo come out that says people aren't allowed to have opinions, or intelligent discussions about these opinions? By the way, I didn't know you had to play at 400,000,00bps to be technical. Quite a few doom metal bands play at hardly 100bpm but yet they can be technical. |
Master of Puppets may not be as good as other metal albums but it still is an essential metal album.
|

It just seems odd to me that you judged how good an album is by the standard of technical playing on it, and not how well it all works together. At the end of the day it's completely subjective, it depends which aspects of music you most enjoy. |

When did the memo come out that says people aren't allowed to have opinions, or intelligent discussions about these opinions?
Yeah, people need to get over that. You don't have to adore every single thing a band has done just because it's from a good band. Every good band released bad music at one time or another and people aren't going to agree with it. Either way, it's good if you can express opinions without completely saying all negative stuff about a band which is just mindless, if you can give somewhat good examples on why you didn't like so and so about Metallica it would be a much better post. |
You do realise hardly any of us love every single thing Metallica do? |
I don't even listen to Metallica that much, I just appreciate why they are considered a great band. I really like Metallica but I could never really consider them a favorite band....

They're one of my favourite bands but I haven't listened to them for months. |
I still really badly want to see them live, I just never really listen to the albums that much, I never worked out why. In saying that I'm loving S+M since I bought it properlly.
|
You do realise hardly any of us love every single thing Metallica do?
I don't see how anyone could. Some of the stuff is so different, you either like the new stuff or you like the old stuff. I like most everything before the Black album, and after that... |

Yeah, you've basically described most of the people who post in here with the last sentence. Although I love Garage Inc and S&M. |

 I know some pretty big Metallica fans, but that's just sad. |

Well when you learn that best doesn't exist and it's subjective, come back. Otherwise, you can stay out of this thread. Anyways, that interview was pretty interesting, too short though. Kirk said he wants to dedicate his all music stuff to metallica, and not go solo. In other words, if he does have a side project, James will be pissed off. It sounds like Kirk is ready to bring the solos back to the next album. |
HAY I AM BACK BECAUSE METALLICA IS NOT THE BEST LOLZ
k. People need to stop riding Metallica so much. Thanks. |
Ok, tell me which band do you think is the best? lol

I think it would be a great experience to listen to what Kirk could do on a solo album. I don't care if it's completely different than Metallica, just him playing by himself withouth the band would be great to hear. I am not sure what his influence is, but I hope it wouldn't turn out to be an odd country sound. |
Ok, tell me which band do you think is the best? lol
Best is subjective, and that's why for me it changes every day or two. However, I'm feeling arrogant, so I'll say Cynic. |
Best is subjective, and that's why for me it changes every day or two. However, I'm feeling arrogant, so I'll say Cynic.
So how can metallica not be someone's best band if it's subjective? |
There's a difference between best based on opinion (as in favorite) and best based on technical skill (as in technical skill). I don't care if your favorite band is Metallica, Nirvana, or fuckin' 50 Cent, however based on technical skill there are many more bands out there that are better than Metallica. Cynic, Atheist, Rush, Death, Necrophagist, just to name a few.
|
You do understand that technicality doesn't mean much in music. A band who is the most technical may very well not be the best sounding band. Who listens to a band for technicality? Most people listen to music by how it sounds, not by how technical or how hard it is to play a riff. I don't even see the reason to judge bands by technicality, as it doesn't mean much. So again, sounding-wise, RTL is best thrash metal album.

Somebody else brought in technical skill when he said MoP >>>>>>>>>> most metal today
|
Somebody else brought in technical skill when he said MoP >>>>>>>>>> most metal today
My thoughts exactly. The only new-age metal band i really like is Soilwork.
|
Nile, Strapping Young Lad, Sonata Arctica, Nevermore, Opeth, Dillenger Escape Plan..any of these bands ring any bells?
|
Somebody else brought in technical skill when he said MoP >>>>>>>>>> most metal today
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10571881&postcount=31501 He didn't say technically. You brought technicality into this discussion. |
By saying "MoP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Almost all other metal" obviously he was going for technical skill, which is quite a naive association.
|
i've heard so much about Opeth, but havnt really actually heard the music. Anybody wanna recommend or upload a few songs?
|
Anything off Blackwater Park, My Arms Your Hearse, or Morningrise. Advent, The Drapery Falls, Blackwater Park, Leper Affinity (try and get the Lamentations version, it's twice as far as the album)
|

What are you talking about? Usually when people say something is better than something else, they're talking about how it sounds. That's why you have to add term technically to make sense. So no, obviously he wasn't talking about technicality, for whatever reason it made you think that. Those multiple >>> mean alot better. Not technicality. |
This is like arguing Kirk Hammett vs. Dave Mustaine. Oops! I shouldn't have brought that one up.
This thread is full of babbling idiots. Good game. |
What a come back answer. Obviously when you see you've nothing to backup your junk, you change topics. Nice going.
What's Kirk Hammett vs. Dave Mustaine supposed to mean? Kirk Hammett is in a bigger metal band? I hate when people bag on guitarists for no reasons. I like both guitarists and I'm not gonna BS on mustaine just because you have no clue what you're saying. |
Kirk Hammett vs. Dave Mustaine. Mustaine is a better guitarist than Hammett, but all the little fanboys drool over Hammet's wah skills.
I'm tired of arguing a moot point with babbeling idiots, when I've made my proclivities known, and considering most of what I've said is indeed fact (such as, Master of Puppets not being an essential metal album, and there being many bands out there more skiller than Metallica), I'm bored of the arguements. It's like arguing that Cliff Burton was a God-like bassist, because he wasn't; but I won't bring that one up because it'll get everybodys' panties up in a bunch again |

According to my last psyche evalutation, yes, I am crazy. Problem? |
