has anyone else here ever heard John entwhistle do a bass solo?
who hasnt? my generation?

also the bass solo in 5:15 off of their live at the royal albert hall is un-freaking-believable.

hes by far my favorite bassist.

I consider My Generation bass fills rather than a solo.

same here. It is an awesome riff but not a solo. I believe he soloed on the Live At Leeds version of My Generation.

Not sure though, I'll check it out.

lunch998 05-03-2005 08:07 PM

Nothing more than some great fills on the My Generation from Live at Leeds.

His playing on The Real Me is spectacular.

pigonthewing82 05-03-2005 08:10 PM

Yeah, it was hearing My Generation a month or so ago that got me into the Who, its been a while since I was impressed by bass like that. Not since I got Pink Floyd's cd Meddle. (in the early winter).

RockAndRoll 05-03-2005 08:11 PM

well it's some good stuff live at the royal albert hall (y2000 I think) he does a bass solo in 515, it's some cool stuff.

Would you recommend buying it?

for sure. zak starkey does a great job of filling in for keith moons shoes. and entwistle is in top form. in my wife he solos a bit, 5:15 as stated is killer and the real me as usual is a great bass performance.

robo2448 05-03-2005 08:17 PM

Is this site running extremely slowly to anyone else?

lunch998 05-03-2005 08:21 PM

I was thinking about eventually getting that, but I wasn't too sure.

ya defionitely cheap, 3 cds loads of songs. I'll talk about it more when i have the time bye.
I was thinking about eventually getting that, but I wasn't too sure.
get the dvd as opposed to the cd. or try to get both. hmm. i only have the dvd and the cd has more songs but the dvd has the visual aspect and thats especially cool during th bass solo because of the camera mounted on entwistles bass.

Leper 05-03-2005 09:10 PM

bass solos don't amuse me. I'm not sure why, sometimes they're pretty cool but overall...meh.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of bass myself, but there is nothing like the feeling you get when a bass line just blows you away.

ATM 05-03-2005 09:19 PM

That's why I love funk. The basslines are so great.

very true, especially at a concert.

ArrestThisMan that avatar of your's is nothing short of brutal. Brutally amusing however, but brutal nonetheless.

Badmoon 05-03-2005 09:26 PM

Stand! = Great Funk album

My review of Stand! = Even better ;)

Illmatic 05-03-2005 09:29 PM

Stand!
In the end, you'll still be you...

I love the drumroll in the beginning and the coda at the end of that song.

Badmoon 05-03-2005 09:32 PM

That is an amazing album. Larry Graham and Sly just own.

:)

Glitterati 05-03-2005 09:41 PM
Well I'll never stop listening to The Who Sell Out and Tommy, but I'm listening to more of their later stuff nowadays (most regulars here can tell you that I've tried to avoid it for some time now).
I'm still working my way through Tommy, I love "School Bully", especially the part where it's played in the movie and Roger is being tortured.

However, Who's Next can still do a number on me. I like how it has a really strong opener (Baba O' Riley) and ends with a equally strong number (Won't Get Fooled Again) .

pigonthewing82 05-03-2005 09:49 PM

Is the Who's Tommy a good movie, I know it was a great play, but I hadn't heard about the movie.

Glitterati 05-03-2005 09:50 PM

It's a pretty crazy movie. It's like The Wall, in the way it's got no dialogue, just the entire album being played. It's pretty good.

np: Rush - Fly By Night

most definitely. I don't even know him but i'm sure he's a jerk.

thickasabrick 05-03-2005 10:51 PM

I've actually never seen Tommy. How does it compare to the Wall? I have The Wall and I love it, although I'm a much bigger Pink Floyd fan than a Who fan.

Leper 05-03-2005 11:16 PM

I've never seen Tommy either, but if it even COMPARES to the wall, i'd say it's definitely worth viewing..

Aramis 05-03-2005 11:47 PM

As awkward as this post may sound, does anyone have any good suggestions for classic rock sounds that would be good for a striptease? Songs that trigger images of a girl just swinging around a pole at a stripclub? Either that or a song that would make you imagine a woman struttin' her stuff as she walks around town.

Don't ask. :p

So far I've got:

ACDC - Back in Black
Canned Heat - Let's Work Together
Jimi Hendrix - Foxy Lady
Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick
Robert Palmer - Addicted to Love
Tom Jones - She's a Lady

. . .I'm actually using these tracks for an idea on a film project. Any genuine, great suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Illmatic 05-04-2005 12:02 AM

Odd suggestion Phucked o_O

So basically you want a song with a sleazy guitar riff...

Jimi Hendrix's cover of "Wild Thing" would work
Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" too
maybe Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" and/or "Sweet Emotion"
Queen's "Fat-Bottomed Girls", maybe
Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" (the riff would work, at least)
Van Halen's cover of "You Really Got Me"

Motley Crue-girls girls girls or Dr. Feelgood
Rolling Stones-Brown sugar or Honky Tonk Woman
Pink Floyd- Young Lust
ZZ Top- Legs or Sharp Dressed man
Def Leppard- Pour some sugar on me

ATM 05-04-2005 12:22 AM

Do we get to see the film? :)

SonorKen 05-04-2005 12:24 AM

Any Whitesnake song is a good stripper song. Im serious, any popular Whitesnake song.

So far all I have for them for some reason is "Here I Go Again On My Own". I'll look for more. :thumb: Thank you.

ATM 05-04-2005 01:09 AM

I've got actual stripper music if you want it.

TheDMV 05-04-2005 12:22 PM

Led Zeppelin - Black Dog. THe lyrics ,the music; It's a stripper classic. Plant hinself described as a "Let's do it in the bath type thing"

Against Miik! 05-04-2005 12:52 PM

Very borderline classic rock, but Def Leppards "Pour Some Sugar on Me."

warwick_chick 05-04-2005 01:41 PM

:upset: that song was one that helped inspire me to play bass. I learned it pretty recenty. The "solo" wasn't really that hard, at least, I thought it would be harder, the outro was tough, though. I still have to get the rythm right.

I think someone also called it "honey dripping sex"
