My initial comment had no insult about it; it actually did not express any of my feelings on metal, other than the fact that I don't like it as much as I like rap (which is my favorite genre).
And please, I have to deal with 99% of MX (and a lot of dumbasses in real life) saying "rap takes no skill" and "rap is 'crap' without the 'c'" so it's not like I don't have to deal with my "beloved genre" is insulted.
Well, I have to deal with people every day that say metal is no talent hacks that just bash on the drums and guitar and scream. So ya, goes with every thing in life for the most part. And when the only insult they can come up with is "rap is crap with out the c" is some one to not even bother with. |
I've given metal an honest chance, and it bores the hell out of me.

Fine by me. At least you gave it a shot. |
I've given metal an honest chance, and it bores the hell out of me.
Just curious, what metal have you heard? |
Just curious, what metal have you heard?
Metallica Slayer Megadeth Anthrax Pantera Opeth Symphony-X Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment Morbid Angel Mayhem Children of Bodom Iced Earth Emperor |
And AH: The Black-Eyed Peas? Come on, they are abysmal.
EDIT: As is Aesop Rock, of course. |
Rap is an iffy genre for me, I lean towards hip-hop moreso than rap.
Being white, it wouldn't be in my best interest to have the word "******" blasting in your car while driving through Detroit and/or Grand Rapids. I really enjoy hip hop that focuses on its beats and lyrics that do not have to deal with the word "******" as the apex of their music, and don't tell me that there are artists who don't try to use that term liberally. It's a calloused name to call a black person, and you're asking to get shot in a drive-by if you're a whiteboy bumping that music in your ride. I also tend to listen to numerous white hip hop artists, not because I relate to their words, but because they don't speak volumes on "ice," champagne, loose women, fast cars, "bling-bling," or ebonics. That doesn't appeal to me. I find that form of music degrading and torturous. Atmosphere, Beastie Boys, Rehab, Aesop Rock, Kanye West, Jurassic 5, Black-Eyed Peas, OutKast, and Cypress Hill are artists I regularly listen to. I tend to stay away from Ludacris, Jay-Z, Mystikal, Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz, Eminem, 50 Cent, Terror Squad, etc. because I don't appreciate them either because they aren't good linguists or I just don't enjoy the music. That's all.
Well, what's the difference between rap and hip hop? I thought rap was the culture/lifestyle, and rap was the music. I tend to listen to the first list and stay away from the second, too. |
Just curious, what metal have you heard?
I was just going to ask that. I say we play the "you send good rap, we send good metal" game featuring yousendit. EDIT: nevermind, you've heard more than I thought. |
Anthrax
Piddles. Well at least you're not mindlessly bashing the hell out of them. |
Also, Jay-Z is great.
Metallica
Slayer Megadeth Anthrax Pantera Opeth Symphony-X Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment Morbid Angel Mayhem Children of Bodom Iced Earth Emperor
LTE is more like jazzy rock/metal influenced insturmental work. I find it hard to believe, out of all those bands you have listed, that they bored the hell out of you? Just weird. |
I was just going to ask that.
I say we play the "you send good rap, we send good metal" game featuring yousendit.
I'm down. I have both :p |
"Let's Get It Started" was the NBA Finals theme song, and the Pistons won with that song, so that's where my bias partly comes from, although I don't mind their other albums.
:upset: |
/me listens to Eminem, Deltron 3030, Wu-tang Clan...that's about it.
|
I'm down. I have both :p
Heh. /ninja quoted. I have no problem with giving rap another listen. |
I don't give two shits and a fuck what you think of them.
No, they really are awful. gg. |
Eminem
He seems to be the guy no one hates, whether they like mainstream or underground. |
I'm downloading a song that all you metalheads would like. Give me a few minutes.
|
LTE is more like jazzy rock/metal influenced insturmental work.
I find it hard to believe, out of all those bands you have listed, that they bored the hell out of you? Just weird.
I actually kind of liked LTE, but that's it. And I guess they aren't metal, oh well. My number one complaint with metal is that it comes across to me as very cold, joyless music. |
Heh.
/ninja quoted. I have no problem with giving rap another listen.
Whats ninja quoting? |
He seems to be the guy no one hates, whether they like mainstream or underground.
I know lots of people that don't like him, but I think he has good flow, and I like his style. His lyrics are a little better than most of the mainstream blehness too. |

Old Eminem > New Eminem |
I actually kind of liked LTE, but that's it. And I guess they aren't metal, oh well.
Five games, too. We should have swept you, but Game 2 was a sham.
As a result, we suck now. |
Whats ninja quoting?
You quoted me before I put my edit in that he has heard more than I thought. |
I know lots of people that don't like him, but I think he has good flow, and I like his style. His lyrics are a little better than most of the mainstream blehness too.
Eminem has a terrific flow. But ever since his second album his material has been lackluster at best. He's a horrible producer, and lyrically he's almost becoming a parody of himself. |
Old Eminem > New Eminem
Of course, all I heard off his most recent was that political song single. Once. |
I'm downloading a song that all you metalheads would like. Give me a few minutes.
Who's it by? |
As a result of Kobe Bryant, one of the most thoroughly hatable athletes of all time, we suck now.
Fixed for accuracy. |
Who's it by?
Binary Star |
Hello.
Of course, all I heard off his most recent was that political song single. Once.
It looks like the fame finally got to his head. He sucks now. |
Eminem has a terrific flow. But ever since his second album his material has been lackluster at best. He's a horrible producer, and lyrically he's almost becoming a parody of himself.
Yeh, I have about half of The Eminem Show d/led, but mostly from older stuff. |
Fixed for accuracy.
If he wasn't such a baby, we still might have Shaq and Phil Jackson. |
Elaborate on reasons why you think it as a cold and joyless music?
/just curious
Well, the music sounds very synthetic and fine-tuned in studio to the last note, it's just very hard to get a feel for. |
harsh
everyone ignores /crys |
Well, the music sounds very synthetic and fine-tuned in studio to the last note, it's just very hard to get a feel for.
You have to understand too, many metal bands are better live than in studio. |
harsh
