 And I was about to say, "you can never get enough Grateful Dead..."

Badmoon 05-03-2005 06:28 PM
So, who here has heard Odessey & Oracle by The Zombies? I recently got it, and now I can't stop listening. It has the perfect pop songs you've never heard.
I own it. And it never really interested me that much.

Broken Arrow 05-03-2005 06:37 PM

Can we talk about Blues in here?

I dont think it would hurt.

Of course not, its the base of Classic Rock. It would be like saying you can't talk about Black Sabbath in a general heavy metal thread.

Since when did an old regular have to ask to bring up a topic? Especially something music related.

Broken Arrow 05-03-2005 07:00 PM

Well some of the regulars I know get angry when bluegrass is dicussed.

I won't say any names.

;)

Walrus Gumboot 05-03-2005 07:00 PM
I have no clue why it would be like that. Maybe it's just older weed, it sorta dries up and can take on different characteristics than what you'd normally see. It might just be compressed because it was in a huge bag, weed in big bags is usually squished because of all the weight. If none of those seem like reasonable answers (I'm finding it somewhat hard to picture what you're describing) then I'm not sure. You're best bet is to smoke some and see if it's good stuff.
It's like it was all spread out and someone squashed it so it's compressed, like .5cm thick, and then broke it up, like peanut brittle. It also smells a bit like iced tea

/off weed topic

Has anyone heard of Leon Russel?

Glitterati 05-03-2005 07:13 PM

Here's an idea. I have constantly changing taste in music, so I discover something new musically every week or so. My point is, what has everyone been listening to lately? Lately, I've been listening to Patti Smith, Rush, and Stevie Wonder. Interesting mix, but there you have it.

Lately I've been listening to The Who. More than I normally listen to them, which isn't easy to do.

And the first few Jethro Tull albums.
Can we talk about Blues in here?
Of course not, stupid

robo2448 05-03-2005 07:31 PM

Today I have listened to a ton of Dylan, Blood on the Tracks and a greatest hits. I think Blood on the Tracks is his best CD, as I feel that Bringing it all Back Home is overrated, and Blood on the Tracks slightly edges out Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde.

I have also listened to some of The Band, and Springsteen. I had a tennis match all afternoon, and I'm an alternate, which means I don't play every day. In other words, when we have a match, I get to chill and listen to music the whole time.

Minutemen
Jimmy Cliff
Peter Tosh
Bunny Wailer

But I've been listening to them for a couple of months.

lunch998 05-03-2005 07:33 PM

I wish I had played tennis. At my school its so chill, basically I would do what you do if I was on the team.

pigonthewing82 05-03-2005 07:33 PM

Well there will always be the usual five I listen to every day (Pink Floyd Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Grateful Dead), but I've been listening to a lot more Blue Oyster Cult, and Black Sabbath this week then usual.

The Who are the greatest. Which albums are you listening to?

I still need to get my first Tull album, need to start making cash first though.

Well I'll never stop listening to The Who Sell Out and Tommy, but I'm listening to more of their later stuff nowadays (most regulars here can tell you that I've tried to avoid it for some time now).

RockAndRoll 05-03-2005 07:39 PM

has anyone else here ever heard John entwhistle do a bass solo?

lunch998 05-03-2005 07:41 PM
has anyone else here ever heard John entwhistle do a bass solo?
I think if the other three guys stopped playing on Heaven and Hell on Live at Leeds, you would have yourself a pretty good bass solo.

My dad has an album or two of his, but I haven't actually heard him. Is he worth checking out?

I've been listening to some jazz lately, but I'm a noob to jazz.

I've also been listening to:
Tony Rice
Keller Williams
Tea Leaf Green
Yonder Mountain String Band
Jeff Beck

I love Tommy, Sell Out is pretty good but not great in my opinion. I don't think I've really given it enough of a chance though.

I bought The Who By the Numbers a few weeks ago, which I hadn't heard too much positive stuff about. I was thinking about buying Who Are You, Facedances, or It's Hard?

Are they really as bad as they are said to be?

I wouldn't buy those three until you have all their other albums. And even then, it's risky.

My dad has their 30 Years of Maximum R&B Collection, so I was lucky enough to get the best of their later years without having to buy those albums. I know a lot of compilations/box sets do a lackluster job of picking material, but this collection is excellent, I think.

robo2448 05-03-2005 07:51 PM

I forgot to mention that I have been pretty much obsessed with Pink Floyd the last couple of weeks.

/desperately wants Animals/

ATM 05-03-2005 07:54 PM

I could upload it for you if you want it.

Do you guys like surf music?

I do, except for their debut and A quick one, but I think I will settle for downloading just certain better songs.

Thanks for the advice :thumb:.

Broken Arrow 05-03-2005 07:55 PM

I've been listening to-
The Kinks
moe.
Widespread Panic
The Mars Volta
This awesome piece I wrote that includes a Marimba and a bass guitar
Southern Man Riff arranged into Sitar music by your truly.

Those are essential, though you may not like A Quick One very much.
