I've either heard or own most of those albums. Where's the pre 1940s jazz on that list?

Kurtz 02-04-2006 08:17 PM

/me checks out

Godo golly gosh that's a big list. And this is good because I've been getting into jazz for like the past month or so.

Any personal favorites Zappa?

That's the list of personal favorites from my 300 album collection :p. But seriously, just pick some names that sound appealing and All-Music them. If it sounds even more appealing based on the review, attack me on soulseek.

The LP did not exist back then. And to me it's all about Ellington, Louis, and Basie back then anyway.

I know that, I just thought you'd list some other artists before 1945. Nevertheless, it's a good one.

ELB is awesome stuff too.
eff you
Lollergraphs.

You know it's true though.
Where's Naked City?
It's not Jazzy enough.

DUN DUN DUN!

Zappa 02-04-2006 08:37 PM
Where's Naked City?
I stuck to a pretty strict definition of jazz. You'll notice that nothing Miles did with his electric ensembles appears, nor does anything like Weather Report or Chick Corea's 70s work.

Chick is cool to drink to.

Corea basically just rules.

Agreed.

Glitterati 02-04-2006 08:47 PM
Not in your case since I know you listen to some pretty shitty bands.
Guilty as charged.
London Calling, no question.

The Clash are incredible.
^^^^^ quoted for truth. Get London Calling.

Happymeal 02-04-2006 09:04 PM

Toby and Mia of Kayo Dot are coming to Toronto on the 15th. As usual, I can't go =/

Zmev 02-04-2006 09:12 PM

Then you should go.

My friend met him in New York. And he's a big jazz-head so he pretty much shit his pants.

br3ad_man 02-04-2006 09:41 PM

I might not get to go to Tapey's band now. :(

pikester 02-04-2006 11:05 PM

So I went to a wedding today. The wedding party walked in to album leaf, the bride walked in to Sigur Ros's ( ) #3, and everybody left to that one Stars song that everyone knows.

'twas a classy wedding.
I might not get to go to Tapey's band now. :(
That sucks man. Why not?

br3ad_man 02-05-2006 04:38 AM

I can't get anyone to go with me. Which is fine with me, but not fine with my parents as I'm pretty sure the boat place isn't near a train station, which means I can't get home. Plus I'm supposed to play bass at youth group, which I really don't mind getting out of, but still, it's a contributing factor.

ATM 02-05-2006 10:02 AM

Shows I am considering:

Supergrass
w/ Piliotdrift

O.D.B. Tribute Tour with WU TANG CLAN featuring RZA • Raekwon • Method Man • Masta Killa • Inspeckta Deck • U-God • GZA • Ghostface with Cappadonna • Street Life • Mathematics

George Clinton & The Parliament-Funkadelic All Stars

Lee Scratch Perry with Dub is a Weapon

Mogwai with Growing

Zion I

DILATED PEOPLES
LITTLE BROTHER : DEFARI

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE, STORSVEIT NIX NOLTES

ART BRUT

Any input on which ones I should really try and make it to?

Sam 02-05-2006 10:06 AM

I was gonna go see the Wu at the 9:30 Club...but it's 50 bux so I don't think I'm gonna make it.

ATM 02-05-2006 10:07 AM

Yea, it's a little pricy. But I think it would be worth it.

superpeer 02-05-2006 10:11 AM

I didn't like them, but that was at a festival, so maybe that's different.

ATM 02-05-2006 10:15 AM

What were they like at the festival?
