I just bought a compilation book of 16 Lovecraft stories. Only read the introduction so far.

I like anything that reminds me of 2008

I've got two Lovecraft collections. One if four or five stories and I read the whole thing a year or so ago. Another is at least 20 or so and I've only read a couple.

Lovecraft had a lot of good ideas but as a writer he was a turgid obscurantist

get some sort of Lovecraft anthology, any one should have a few good ones in it. My favorite of his short stories is probably Dreams In The Witchhouse.

Beyond that, it depends what you're looking for. I haven't read too much horror. I'm not sure if you'd be into it but some of the old Gothic horror is interesting. Matthew Lewis' [I]The Monk[/I], Stoker's [I]Dracula[/I]. There have to be some others but I'm drawing a blank.

Hmm, you're the second person I've seen say that his actual writing was rather underwhelming compared to his ideas.

Well he wasn't known for being a rich prose stylist or anything. He just had an intense imagination that was ahead of his time.

His wording is enjoyable though, gotta love phrases like "profundity of ideals" and such
